"Mi-lady, it is dawn. Time to wakeup."
I squinted my eyes at the sound of the sudden voice. I was never a light sleeper so once Sara spoke, my mind started to run.
"Good morning to you to Sara."
Sara was my mother's old maid who was with us before she died when I was 2 years old. She remained by my side ever since then, prepping me every morning before I see my family.
My mother was the second wife in my father's many marriages. He was a joyful man, strong, and was a former military commander in the War of Xeros, between our empire, Kalasos, and Amperium, our now sworn enemy. ( The reason behind the war was muddled, but from whispers of my father to his former subordinates, it appears it was over resources.) Coming back from war, he was excited to have kids, even if that meant at the expense of the relations in the household.

"Are you ready for breakfast Alexandra," Sara asked with a smile.
I nodded.

In the Halgos family, breakfast was mandatory. Everyone was to say their plans of the day, which also allowed staff to be prepared for any activities they may be doing. At the table was the my father, Duke Halgos, my older brother, Claudius, and my second oldest brother Luke. My father's third wife, was trying to produce an heir, but for some reason, one hasn't been produced yet. She feels shameful because of it, but my father always tells her not to worry.
Out of my two brothers, I was always more fond of Claudius. He practically walked in father's footsteps as charismatic, a true leader and always there to cheer you up. Luke was a little more free spirited, didn't care for the politics of running a kingdom but would go through the training and slack off any minute. I didn't despise him, but never really held a conversation for two long.
"Welcome family. I hope your sleep was pleasant," he said, looking around with a big smile.
"Now let's begin."
