5. Blacksmithing

5. Blacksmithing

Jack waited at his cell until a guard entered saying "Come on out.. THAT old man has let you free."

"That old man?" Jack asked

"Ah. Forgot, he told me that you were an amnesiac. Yes, he's the Great Wizard of Sepha, which is the capital. Currently we're in Tem, ah but do be careful on your way to the capital." The guard then opened the cell and let Jack out.

"There are demons that lurk around in between the areas of Tem and Sepha.. They're different than monsters." The guard explained

"How so?" Jack asked as he scratched his face, puzzled.

"You see.. monsters don't grow in strength and most of them aren't sentient.. Demons are sentient and they grow in a monstrous way.. They have the ability to devour souls of anything they kill, they get exponentially stronger per soul. They're usually only capable of getting stronger by eating six souls of the same species.. but human souls can stack infinitely." The guard shifted his eyes back and forth.

"I see. Thanks for the head's up! I'll be on my way now." Jack said, he then exited the prison and was finally able to enter the town.

"Enemy [Level 1 Mantis] Cursed! -5 MaxHp! Mantis is too weak to shake it off! Mantis has been defeated!"

"Skill 'Curse' Has gained 1 Exp! You have gained .5 Exp!"

'Huh.. it seems the Mantis was in a recent battle and died from the curse.. I need to head to the Guild to register..' Jack thought as he began to walk away from the prison.

The town wasn't anything special, there wasn't many places to go. The main places were the prison, the local guild, the shops, and that was it. The rest were just residential areas or small farms. Due to this, Jack quickly found the guild.

On the outside the guild was quite shabby, made of old wood and sloppily at that.

Jack entered and was greeted by a receptionist.

"Hello! Welcome to the Adventurer's Guild! This is the Tem district! I am Flora!" The receptionist said, Jack made eye contact with her and she was a beautiful girl with green hair and green eyes.

She was currently wearing the uniform of the guild which just had them wear a cloak with the guild's emblem, which was two swords inter crossed with the letter S.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"Hi I'm looking to register.. I'm Jack!" Jack said with a smile.

'Damn.. she's kind of cute..' He thought internally as his face slightly became pink.

"Ah. We currently aren't taking any new applicants! Sorry!" The receptionist responded with a smile.

'W..what? No new applicants? This isn't like the novels..' Jack thought to himself.

"What do you mean by that?" Jack asked and the receptionist looked back and forth before saying

"The guild isn't looking for new applicants currently, however the blacksmiths need more people if you're interested.." The receptionist looked devastated, almost crying even.

"Blacksmith? I'll do it! Where do I sign up ?" Jack said a second later, attempting to stop this beautiful lady from crying.

The receptionist smiled and handed Jack the application.

'What an idiot.. guild's don't have a capacity with the war going on nowadays.. Finally I filled that blacksmith spot..' The receptionist internally thought.

Jack read the application and filled it out, the reception then lead him to the back to meet with the Blacksmith he'd go under training with.

When Jack arrived what awaited him was a giant man seated in a chair, he had a large beard and giant muscles. He was quite young looking.

"Hello! I'm Frenk! I'll be your teacher Hahaha!" Frenk said with a smile as he bursted into laughter.

When Jack entered farther into the room he found that 'Frenk' had been drinking many different bottles of alcohol. His breath was terrible.

"Yeah.. Hi. I'm Jack.." Jack said nervously, he was internally quite disgusted with Frenk.

"Jack! That's a fine name! Let's go begin your training!" Frenk replied as he got up out of his chair.

"Now? Didn't I just turn the application in?" Jack questioned him.

"Ah.. it's fine. The faster we start the better!" Frenk replied.

To this the receptionist Flora silently giggled and exited.

'Frenk's teachings are harsh.. good luck Jack!' She thought as she returned to her post with a smile.

Frenk led Jack to his house which was quite nice looking compared to the guild, the two entered inside and Frenk began to teach Jack the wonders of Blacksmithing.

Frenk got a hammer and began, he made sure that Jack was able to see all movements and even how he positioned the hammer before hitting the blade.

"Skill Blacksmithing Acquired! Will Stat unlocked!"

"Due to your skill 'Vigorous Training' Blacksmithing has turned into Soul Smithing!"

The system resounded out into Jack's head and he was quite curious.

'Status!' He called out, the description for the skill said "Soul Smithing.. Able to imbue your own soul into your work!'

This just led Jack to having more questions...

Jack continued to watch and learn from Frenk day and night, he was only allowed two hours of sleep for three months until finally, he had completed the beginner course.

"Hahaha! I'm proud of you Jacky! You will become a fine smithy!" Frenk said aloud with a smile as he put his arm over Jack.

"Thank you Frenk for the guidance.. Thanks to you I've learned so much!" Jack replied with a smile.

"You know.. You truly are a genius! Most take forever to get to the level you're at! You even learned twice as fast as I did!" Frenk laughed once more before getting serious.

"However.. That mark on your hand.. Be careful who you show that to.." Frenk then took a Black Iron Gauntlet out of his pocket and handed it to Jack.

"Here.. I've been working on this since we've met.. Keep it hidden for the time being."

"Thank you Frenk! I'll forever remember this kindness!" Jack replied elated as he took the gauntlet from Frenk and put it on his left hand.
