Prologue

VRMMORPG [Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game], a game where any player can live a new life inside a game like it was real. After its first invention, a myriad of VRMMORPG were developed, but only one name dominated the VRMMORPG trade.

Aegis.

This was a game where every prominent nation poured its money and technology to develop.

Classes, items, equipments, skills, everything can be customized; even the appearance of your character could be altered as long as you purchase creation tools from the game. This was one of the unique features for Aegis that was loved by all players.

There are over 200 million players worldwide registered in Aegis.  But only few had stood out in the game. One of these few individuals is the Twilight Bringer Guild that is composed by five players only. They are one of the most powerful guilds that were ever created even though they are few in numbers. Each of the members is strong enough to topple a high-levelled guild, especially their guild master who received the title of PVP God.

* •••••••••

Two great obsidian armored statues stood in front of a single silhouette. One of the armor was holding a sword, the other is a shield. Between them is a flickering light escaping from the jet-black cracks of the gate.

The silhouette wore a jet-black light armor composed of arm guards, chest protector and boots. There was a red scarf that hangs within its neck and a small blade in its waist.

A strong wind blew past this figure that makes its messy black hair to flutter along the gentle caress of the cold winter breeze.

Somehow this figure looked cool.

A party of four stood behind this figure below the staircase. One female, two male and a skeleton, as for the female she was an elf specializing in archery and support magic. One of the male is a dwarf, a small person with a rounded belly and a plentiful messy beard. He was lifting a gigantic hammer within his shoulders. Standing six feet high, the other male was an orc. Behind him, a large axe was strapped. Just by looking at its axe it will make you feel that it is ready to cut your neck apart. Finally the skeleton, devoid of skin and flesh who wore a ragged robe along with golden ornaments within its neck. A magician in the form of undead, specializing in curse and undead magic.

They were not monsters or a mob in the game. They were player characters, one of the selectable races in the game.

“Wow, It’s been a while since we all gathered around together. I’m sorry for calling you out on short notice.”

“Why’d you call us Guild Master Rain? I won’t be online for too long, I am busy with something right now. If it’s not something important I will be going now.”

The elf-Leera tilted her head to her right side and made an irritated gesture.

“Actually...”

Rain bit his lips.

“I... I’m quitting the game.”

It was a heavy decision. Rain felt his chest screaming in pain. He took heavy breaths, trying to calm himself.

Everyone stopped and gazed at Rain’s location. The atmosphere became somewhat suffocating due to their silence.

Until-

“Oi. What’s with this melodramatic scene? Are you dying or something?”

Rubbing his plentiful messy beard, the dwarf retorted with an annoyed expression in its face.

“Ha ha ha. That’s what I love with you Obin, you really know how to break the ice. Though your reactions sometimes were quite rough it still hits its spot. Thank you. I feel much better now. ”

“So you were serious that time. I really thought it was just a slip of the tongue. What’s your plan now?”

The orc replied with a deep male voice befitting its character.

“I would like to focus on my studies. Lately my grades are dropping and it wouldn’t be good if I failed my subjects. I am also doing a nightly overtime at my job; you know I got bills to pay too. The landlady here in my boarding house wanted to kick me out already; I still have 3 months of debt to pay. I really can’t manage my time right now.”

“Uwahh, that’s hard. No wonder why you decided to quit.”

Obin the dwarf responed along with a heavy sigh as if he remembered something similar when he was still a student.

“I really must go now Guild Master Rain. I don’t know what to say, but thank you for sharing your time with us. Bye bye!”

Leera logged out.

“That lady really didn’t know how to read the situation. Rain, what will happen to the guild now?”

“I’m planning to disband the guild. You are free to join any guild you want. But if you don’t like to disband the guild I will just appoint you Grull as the new guild master. Is there anyone against it?”

The undead wagged his head left and right.

The dwarf agreed to Rain’s decision to make Grull-the orc to be their new guild master.

“See, no one dared to defy my decision. Actually I really think that you have a knack for being a guild master. You’re the oldest player among us and your decisions are always spot on. How about we meet up sometime? Not in game, but in real life. Let’s go to a beach or something or have a drink until we passed out. It’s been 7 years that since we’ve known each other but we never tried to meet up in person.”

“Oho you seem parched over there Kel, you love drinking aren’t you?”

Kel-the undead just looked away.

“Man, you really are a person of few words. *Sigh* you should try to talk more often Kel. This is my final day here, join our conversation.”

*Cough* *Cough*

Kel didn’t even share his thoughts; he just stood there watching the three conversing about different kind of things.

“Well...”

“Obin, Grull, Kel. Thank you. I will never forget the times we ventured this land. From the time that we were still wet behind our ears till the time we destroyed the strongest guild. Our first mission together, and the time where we almost disband the guild after falling in love with the same player. Thank you for sharing those times with me!”

“Please relay my message to Leera too.”

Rain’s voice was full of emotion as if he was crying in his voice. He bowed his head to show his appreciation to his guild members.

The three clenched their fists.

“I gotta go. I will try to clear this final dungeon by myself. I want to savor this final moment being with this game.”

He turned back and entered the gate where the strongest monster in Aegis resides.

* •••••••••

“Sky Drive Divide.”

Rain drew his short blade before he disappeared into the thin air. What follows was a storm of pitch-black waves of energy filled with black lightning.

This was a special skill that Rain crafted, a skill that cannot be used without fulfilling a special requirement.

The player must chain 5 ultimate skills without being interrupted or being hit by an enemy. A skill that is almost impossible cast due to its requirement. But for Rain who was called the PVP God, it was just as simple as breathing.

Everything it touches was disintegrated instantly.

Eternal, the final boss of Aegis is now down at its final 5% of hp. Wounds covered its body, the armor it wore is already covered by a myriad of cracks. Due to its gigantic body, it didn’t manage to dodge the incoming attack.

“Diiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!”

Rain shouted as his final skill hits it intended target. Some of his equipments were already out of durability. His potions and resurrection stones were all used up. This was his last chance to slay the boss.

*Crack!*

Something being ripped apart echoed throughout the land. What Rain did not know, the boss was preparing a counter attack.

*Booom*

A loud explosion was heared all over the Land. Each and every player online that time felt the ground shake violently before it subsided. Everyone was anxious and restless for what it could be.

As the explosion filled with black lightning subsided, what remained at the boss’s and Rain’s battlefield was just a wasteland that covered vast amount of area and a golden treasure chest filled with different precious stone ornaments. The boss’s body was nowhere to be found.

*Beep*
