Today was just a normal day for Dan. Dan is a sophomore in high school. He just finished his last class of the day and was walking home like every other day.
After walking for 10 or so minutes he came to a stop on the sidewalk to wait for the walk sign to turn green. In the distance, he hears tires screeching in an attempt to stop. He looks up and sees a truck barreling towards him!
He jumps to the side and dodges by inches.
"Whew, that was a close call." He exclaims. But before he can rejoice he hears the revving of an engine, as he whips his head around he notices that its the same truck as before, but this time it's too late to dodge.
"Aww, fuc-" Boom! His body flew tens of meters before he crashed to a stop.
Pain. He could feel nothing but pain, as tears started to flow unwillingly.
His face on the ground as his limbs sprawled in odd angles, he tried to move to no avail. As his blood gushed out of his broken body his last thoughts were, 'Did I anger someone? Is this how it all ends? My whole life I was ordinary and this is what I get...' Pu! He coughed up blood onto the ground. He attempted a self-deprecating laugh as his body grew cold and his green eyes lifeless.
Then he only saw blackness. He couldn't tell how long he saw nothing it could have been days, weeks, or years. Then finally he saw a speck of light that seemed to be getting closer.
An unknown amount of time later he realized he was in a gray world. A few seconds later he noticed an old man a few feet in front of him.
This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
The man started to speak now that he was noticed, "Greetings Dan, I am what you humans call God. You have been chosen to go to any world you choose. Take all the time you need."
As Dan was processing what he just heard, he started to get excited about all the possibilities. He started going through his mind at high speed crossing out worlds that are too dangerous (Dragon Ball), too easy (Ouran High School Host Club), or had certain requirements (Bleach).
A while later he narrowed it down to: Naruto, One Piece, and Hunter X Hunter. After contemplating for a brief moment he had a determined look in his eyes as he started to speak. "I have chosen a world that I'd like to go to." He said.
Hearing this the old man nodded and asked what his choice was. "I choose One Piece, I'd like to be born around the same time as Luffy please." As the man heard him he nodded and spoke, "Very well, I hope you are ready to go to your new world and new lif- huh? Wait- that's not supposed to happen!? Uh... well young man it seems that you cannot go to another world. As well as our time being limited, I can give you compensation for not being able to go. 1. An item from any world. 2. A power from any world. 3. Lifespan. Or 4. Random."
He held his hand up to stop me from speaking for a moment. "First there are restrictions. For the first, you can only choose an item a mortal can use for obvious reasons. For the second, you can't choose an instant power such as SSJB or Ja-Janken because you'll have to train to get to those points. For the third, I can give a maximum of 30 years as the body gives out any longer. There is no restriction for the last as I didn't choose to give that option. The one above me did, and you can get anything from it." The man explained to him.
After contemplation that could make Buddha have a headache, he finally gave in and chose the fourth option.
"So be it, till we meet again." The man spoke.
Whoosh!

Dan woke up in an somewhat familiar place. As he opened his eyes and looked around he instantly understood where he was and why he couldn't transmigrate into another world. He was in a hospital in a full-body cast.
He was incensed, "GOD FUCKING DAMN IT! WHY IN THE ACTUAL FUCK WOULD THOSE LIMP WAFFLES RESUSCITATE ME! FUCK!!!" Hearing shouting the nurses and a doctor rushed in with a tank of what he presumed to be anesthesia.
They spoke in medical jargon, that Dan just toned out, as they quickly put a mask on him. Soon after, Dan lost consciousness.
