I have decided that I will no longer be posting this story, at least as it is now. This has been my first ever time writing and really appreciate everyone who was here for this (short) journey. Super special thanks to my five (5) followers. I know it's tough to commit to such a new book and really appreciate you all roughing it out with me.
tldr: rewriting the chapters I have over the holidays, then publishing as a new story in early 2022
For more information, here's a brief rundown of what I think went wrong and what's going to change.
----------------------------------------
The biggest problem is that there was practically no editing involved during this story, beyond the occasional use of Grammarly. I came up with an idea, had an urge to share the story, then submitted it within a day.
That meant I was sorely lacking on a cache of finished chapters and not certain about the overall direction. I also didn't spend any time considering the perspective/tone/cadence of the story, which doesn't make for the smoothest read. These issues were only exasperated by the fact that I wanted it to be reader interactive, which made the problems with a lack of planning much more obvious.
So, what am I going to do now?
I currently have 5 more chapters outlined, but absolutely no plan for the future of the story beyond that. Over the next couple weeks, I am going to create first drafts for chapters through that point and finalize a consistent style I'd like to use going forward. I'll then go back and redo the already finished chapters with the new style.
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
Currently, my plan is all but remove Leo's interactions with the reader. No more second person dialogue here. The reader interactive will stay, though. The plot won't be changing, but I plan to remove all that rambling context and insert it more naturally. Finally, I am considering changing the story to third person narration instead of first person (let me know what you think in the poll below).
Once I have an actual backlog of chapters, instead of an idea of what I can finish each day, I will start posting as another fiction. The changes I make should be significant enough to warrant a whole new work. Plus there were so few followers/views (and no ratings/reviews), that there's not much I'd need to keep anyways.
Reader interactive means I need lots of followers to make the polls accurate, so I feel like starting from scratch to build up a reader base is the best choice.
I will eventually be deleting this fiction, but only after the new one has been up for a while. Once the first chapter is posted, I will publish another announcement chapter here with the link, if any of you loyal fans are still interested. The name isn't going to be this + (REWRITE) or similar, if I can help it, so you may need to throw this in Read Later to check back in a few weeks. Alternatively, you could follow this account to get notified when the new fiction is released.
Summary so far:
> – No posts on this fiction, until link to new story.
>
> – Drafts and rewrite work after finished with exams.
>
> – Break from writing during the holidays.
>
> – Daily publishing starting first week-ish of 2022.
>
> – Weekly publishing once backlog is depleted. (Biweekly if I decide to go with shorter chapters).
Thank you all once again for you support, and reading through this plan of mine. Please let me know if there is anything you'd like to see in the story, from plot points to powers to character names.
I'm excited for this next stage of the story! See you all in 2022!
