The sunlight peeked in from the windows and reflected off the glistening glass onto my face. Startled by the sensation of the warm rays, I slowly opened my eyes to see daylight.
W-wait...I can see? I did not die? But... I clearly remembered that I went unconscious on a hospital bed. Yet... What is this? Numerous questions flooded my head as I tried to grasp the situation.
"..."
I panicked as I gradually started to lose my composure. What happened to being in a hospital? The place I am in clearly does not look like a hospital room. Trying to recollect myself to think logically, I scanned the room around me. Although at first my sight was quite blurry, I accustomed to it soon enough.
The bed I am situated on was a large and luxurious navy blue bed entailed with intricate embroidery on the ends of the sheets. The flat, rock hard cushion that I was used to in the hospital was replaced with a soft, fluffy broad white pillow. On top of that, there was a closet, table and a desk. The room I was in definitely looked expensive.
Breathing in and out at a fixed pace, I slowly calmed down. I then began to question myself once again as I examined my surroundings, trying to remember what has happened. After a brief while trying to compute what was going on, an unpleasant realization surfaced in my mind.
...The last thing I remembered was that I was at the hospital at my death bed. I wasn't supposed to live until the next sunlight was what I was informed by the doctor. Yet, I can clearly see and feel the rays brimming with warmth from the window.
Is this perhaps, the afterlife? I did not think it would be this serene.
As I tried to stretch out the soreness in my body, something in particular caught my eyes.
My hands are small. My feet, too, are tiny and stumpy, like a small baby. I tried moving my body, but all I felt was sluggishness tugging back at me. I tried to stand up; however, no matter how much I put the energy into my arms and legs to pull myself up, my limbs grew weak and I slumped back down on the bed.
Before I could try to rationalize my thoughts about this situation, knocking could be heard from the door to the room I was in.
After two knocks, three figures came into my room. One was dressed up as a maid, the other two looked regal.
"She's awake! Finally~ My dear sweetheart daughter! Are you okay? You came down with a harsh flu," asked the voice filled with worry as she approached my bedside. That person with the simple, yet elegant violet purple dress...?
Daughter?
But this person is definitely not associated with the term of 'mother' that I know.
Stolen story; please report.
The mother I knew of... she would of never visited me. The only one that visited me constantly would be R-
Huh?
Who was it again that would regularly come visit me? I can't seem to remember.
With my small hand resting on the bottom of my chin, I began pondering, ignoring the voices in the background.
I have shrunk into a child's body. On top of that, I am in an unfamiliar place, with those people in front of me who are supposed to be my parents. Does that mean...this is not the afterlife, but reincarnation?
『Yes, that is correct. You have been reincarnated. 』
A voice suddenly resounded in my head, snapping me out of my thoughts. Confused about where the origin of the cold, blaséd voice came from, I blurted out another question.
'...Who are you? Are you... perhaps god? Also, how did I get here, and where am I?' I was not the religious type, but this would be my best normal, outwardly answer I could give to comprehend my thoughts to understand this world better.
『Negative. I am called 'Administrator'; the voice of this world. Your soul has been transported to this world, as you have lost your physical body in the mortal world called Earth.
To answer your second question, the young girl from this realm has died and lost her soul due to an illness at birth. Therefore, your soul was placed into the young girl's body because it was compatible. This gesture was done out of the good will of someone.
...You were not supposed to die prematurely. It was because of an unknown entity that has disrupted the balance of nature in your world that caused your untimely death.』
...I...Wasn't supposed to die?
A clenching, constricting pain was felt within my small chest as I was beginning to reminiscence about the past. However painful it would be for reorganizing my thoughts, I forced those thoughts out of my head for now. I did not want to be distracted in the important conversation within me.
I definitely do not want to become an emotional mess right now. That can happen later.I wanted to focus on the present to extract information from this voice before it disappears.
『To answer your third question, you are currently in the world called Arcana. In your human terms, a fantasy world with magic and monsters.』
'What happens if one were to lose their soul? What exactly happened to the original owner of this body?' I asked the voice in my head.
『When a soul has perished, that means they are lost forever. A curse ate away at her soul and ultimately, the body became just a shell.』
Something within me pricked at my heart. A curse, is it? Doesn't that mean I can still contract it since it has happened before?
『 Nay. As compensation for bringing you to this world, I have removed the curse from your body. Though, you will receive some repercussions.』
After exchanging a discussion with this mysterious 'Administrator' in my head, he did not answer anymore of my questions and the voice dissipated in my head.
While I was processing what exactly just happened, I quickly jerked my head up, glancing to the side to the origin of the chatter around me. It mainly came from the young woman who was supposed to be the mother of this child's body. With a deep breath, I finally tuned into the conversation of the three young adults.
"Dear, I think our daughter is still under the influence of the flu. She is spacing out still and she is not responding to us." The ladylike figure, eluded with worry, approached and reached out to embraced me into a short hug.
"Don't worry! Your mother will definitely find the best doctor to cure you!" Fire within her eyes could literally be seen as she stormed out of the room.
After a moment of silence since her departure, a somewhat young adult man, perhaps in his late 20s to early 30s came into view of bed.
"Ahem." coughed the husky voice. His warm, serene smile to his wife as he bid her farewell turned into a stone cold glare to me. "It looks like you are finally paying attention."
"*Cough* Though, excuse my wife for her behavior. However, I have questions for you." The young man started to approach me, locking his grey eyes in contact with mine.
"Who exactly are you? You are not our daughter."
Eh?
I'm already busted?
Don't I have like... another few hundred or so chapters to go before my reincarnation is revealed?
