Ch 2: Lottery Wheel

It’s a mess as far as the eye can see, ruined buildings, dust, and faint stains of blood with creepy human skin.

The village was completely destroyed, not a single thatched hut was intact.

Xun Xie looked around carefully to confirm that the monster had truly left and then walked out of the collapsed thatched hut.

Outside the house is a loess compacted dirt road, paved with a layer of finely broken greystone similar to granite and marble, extending down the hillside and finally leading to the outside of the valley.

However, this dirt road is already dilapidated, and there are large deep holes everywhere like a small battle had taken place.

On the ground, there were a few blurred puddles of flesh and bones.

The blood has coagulated and turned black.

Many ants gathered and feasted unscrupulously, outnumbering the small rats, cockroaches, and flies that had gathered overnight.

Such a tragic situation turns one’s stomach and intestines and creates a constipated vomit sensation in the chest.

Xun Xie turned around, looking for other survivors.

As a result, I didn't even see a ghost, let alone a human being, not even a chicken, duck, goose, or dog.

"Everyone in this village was eaten by that monster..."

Xun Xie sat down on a low wall, his mind churning. This body was quite small after all so it fit in the cellar, he mostly saw adults and heard adults screaming so it’s likely if they had a cellar, they couldn’t fit in.

Just looking at this village that had the same sized huts everywhere, not even housing a local rich tyrant like a village chief that would have a bigger house.

So what the villagers had to store typically only needed a small cellar if they had the foresight to make one in the first place.

This was such a small village as well, if it was bigger perhaps another lucky survivor would have been present.

"Looks like I can't go back."

At this point, Xun Xie sighed deeply and had to accept the reality, no matter how bizarre the reality was. He thought he would have been in denial for longer, but a soothing calm washed over him after his head began to hurt after thinking too long, like worms churning, not hurtful but uncomfortable.

Deciding not to think about has always worked well for him.

He had just graduated and got a job anyways, his life wasn’t exactly filled with certainty or hope, just a stressful invisible pressure like a sleep paralysis demon that didn’t go away when he moved or with the touch of sunlight, working for survival, pondering what the years held in store for him. No family, and no true friends just joyful acquaintances with similar interests.

It was clear now after the hours of questions mixed with headaches, mixed with regret, and mixed with contemplation.

The reality had sunk in quickly like a heavy anchor to the ocean floor. He had crossed over to a different world!

"Why is it me?"

Xun Xie doesn't think he was anything special. He's not the second-generation rich, nor the second-generation poor. He's not a scholar or a scumbag delinquent. Neither was he a Millennium genius. He's not very handsome nor was he so ugly the heavens would pity him and give him some luck. He was not a person in the spotlight.

He couldn’t help but think of his previous world again. Even if he was a semi-loner, he had a life. Moreover, judging from his clothes, and the buildings this was likely a very ancient world, not a medieval one. No electricity, no internet, and no bathrooms everywhere for hygiene, diseases were pumped up on steroids with no vaccines to stop them... the way forwards looked a bit bleak.

..

..

Oh, my stomach growls...

A strong hunger struck him heavily, with blows to the gut and calves.

Xun Xie licked his lower lip, feeling hungry and thirsty as if his body had not eaten for three meals, happily changing his thought process and subconsciously trying to look away from what he had lost.

"Drink some water first, then find something to eat."

Xun Xie got up and walked to the well.

There is only one old well in this village. It is located at the entrance of the village. There is a dilapidated building not far away, which seems to be a temple. Further ahead is a small river that winds through. On the other side of the river is a large farmland covered with green rice.

At the mouth of the well, there is a bucket with a long rope tied to the handle.

Xun Xie looked inside the well, ten or twelve meters deep, the water was rippling, reflecting the blue sky.

He grabbed the rope and threw the bucket down.

Bang!

The bucket smashed on the water, and the water quickly filled it up.

"Get up!" Xun Xie vigorously lifted up.

Then, he found that his strength was too weak to lift a bucket of water at all, so he had to shake the rope a few times to remove more than half of the water in the bucket, and then he could lift it up.

Even then his hands were red and sore, and his lungs were kickboxing his ribs.

Looking in the barrel.

The clear well water reflected a blood-stained face.

Seems he wasn’t fated to be handsome in this life either although his face was youthful it showed no signs of handsomeness, he didn’t take it seriously though.

Xun Xie took two sips of water first, then washed his face and hands, and the well water suddenly became cloudy.

"Hey, what is this?"

Xun Xie suddenly noticed something extra was in his mind, that would change everything, his consciousness was something illusionary that he was unable to feel and could only sense vaguely whenever he thought but for a while now, he could clearly feel and see it, but he had subconsciously blocked this change in perception until he had relaxed after sipping water.

His consciousness was filled with fog except for one area.

A greyish-white object was floating in his mind.

very much like...

A lottery wheel?!!

At this moment, a memory flashed in Xun Xie's mind.

Yes, before the world travel, he had a party with his friends after all it's tedious to refer to them as acquaintances right? so the word was downgraded like modern-day use of love, and eight people had a table to eat, drink, and have fun.

A friend who worked at the university after graduation had taken out an object from his large bag pack.

An ancient stone spin wheel consisting of a larger main wheel and a palm-sized smaller auxiliary wheel, the friend showed off his new findings that both wheels still spun after all this time, and strangely only the symbols and writings on the wheel were corroded and not the material of the stone wheel itself, it had remained the same for possibly ten thousand years!

For a stone, it was kind of amazing to be preserved so well but the key was, it wasn't actually made of stone despite appearances.

It was likely used in a lottery-like game. He was in charge of sending the wheel to some geologists for joint research with his department and wanted to show off before then. However, before his lecture could begin, he was booed and then pressured into downing some shots pushing the matter aside.

"I was fidgeting with the spin wheel before I lost consciousness” Xun Xie groaned cursing his busybody touchy nature.

Could it be that the culprit that caused my time travel was this odd ancient wheel?

Thinking at this moment!

He tried to spin the wheel, but it was stationary.

Oddly enough he felt that he could touch it but just couldn’t spin it.

Xun Xie blinked, looked inside his mind, and carefully examined the blank wheel caressing the only pattern on it, his mind could somehow feel the touch stony texture of the wheel although it was surrounded by a mysterious aurora. Except for a silver-gold hourglass on one section, everywhere else was blank on the main wheel only the palm-sized wheel was suddenly clear and had five sections carved with mysterious runes that he somehow understood, they were numbers!

1000

10000

But what did they mean? He tried spinning it but it didn’t move either, it was even heavier than the main wheel.

Hm?

After sitting down Xun Xie saw a small gleam next to the bucket, he picked it up and examined it. It didn’t feel like stone but a slightly smooth metal.

Was it worth anything? He thought.

“What is-!!!?”

Before he could ponder anything more, a mechanical voice sounded in his mind.

“You spun the lottery wheel and won the treasure detector.”

“Active Duration: one day”

“Range: 1 meter (Critical Disabled, Not activated)

Xun Xie was taken off guard but before he could process it, it happened again.

A wonderful voice resounded in Xun Xie's head.

"Go forward, there is a copper coin in the gap between the stones 1 meter away."

“?”

Xun Xie thought for a while before everything connected.

He had the ability to detect treasures in 1 meter! What a great ability!

Excited he ran to the gap and fished out a coin.

It was truly there! Even better he heard another prompt.

"Take six steps to the west, dig 0.6 meters underground, and find a piece of silver."

He quickly ran over there.

"Ten steps to the south, there is a lost elephant rice jade pendant under the grass."

He ran again, but this time it took a while since he didn’t follow the instructions carefully and was bombarded by other prompts and forgot the original one.

“Could I be dumber than an amoeba?” He remembered a popular insult back in high school. Couldn't follow simple instructions?

He quickly shrugged it off.

Hm?

Is that?

Xun Xie suddenly noticed something about the prompts when they didn’t stop. Only the ones in range of course, but after saying it once it would move on to another and then start from the beginning presumably that would continue until he picked them up.

Looks like his secret genius IQ of 9000 didn’t need to be unearthed, finding the treasures were easy!

A series of prompts resounded in my mind.

Xun Xie was in high spirits, walked forward about half a meter, lowered his head, and pulled the stones, and a stained chipped gold coin with a round square hole came into view.

It definitely was not from this generation, and it couldn’t be used to its full value but even a discounted price was worth a lot more than a copper coin, right? Even if this world was backward and copper coins were worth more then he would be even richer!

Xun Xie was overjoyed and followed the prompts to find them one by one.

soon.

He dug up a piece of silver, a tael.

He found a piece of something called an elephant rice jade pendant, which was warm and crystal clear, and full of color.

At this time, Xun Xie came to a thatched cottage, and more hints appeared.

"In the wooden box under the bed, there are forty-two copper coins and a crystal ball with impurities."

"In the pair of broken straw sandals on the right, there are 30 copper coins of private money."

Xun Xie accepted it unceremoniously.

After that, he walked to the next door.

"Under the lid of the pot, there are five steamed garlic dumplings."

"In the corner behind the stove, there are one and a half bags of rice."

"Under the collapsed beam, there is cooked marinated bacon."

"In the bedside cabinet, there are thirty-four copper coins and a jade ring."

Great harvest!

"Not only can you pick up money, but you can also find food."

Treasure's definition seemed, fortunately, to be more than just money.

Xun Xie happened to be very hungry, so he quickly found steamed dumplings and bacon and ate them.

After you are full, pack all the rest of the food, and then continue to scavenge other houses.

More than four hours later, Xun Xie turned over the entire village and found a damaged gold coin, forty-three taels of silver, hundreds of copper coins, as well as clothes, food, clean bedding, and so on.

Xun Xie collected all these supplies and put them on a flatbed truck.

Cursed for a while, 1 meter? What’s the use? He wasn’t blind.. well, the introduction is what actually matters otherwise he would have eaten something poisonous and finding the items buried in the ground and under rubble. It took forever to find everything if only it was 100 meters....

Xun Xie wouldn’t admit it was more than that and he would have missed some things even if they were in front of him.

He couldn't be sure whether the monster would turn back, so he had to prepare early and leave this accursed place.

Take a break for a while.

'It's truly been a long day.'

Monster eating people, being knocked unconscious, realizing he was in another world and could never return, discovering he had a special ability to find treasure.... everything was so overwhelming.

He did in fact discover five other cellars within the village huts but three were the same size as his and the rest were smaller so no one else could survive as he did unless another child his size was here but the facts spoke for themselves. Now that he wasn't keeping himself busy his mind suddenly wandered and became still in a trance-like state.

After a while, he calmed down and was ready to leave. Carrying a heart full of uncertainty and faint expectation.

Xun Xie set off with a cart and walked out of the village entrance.

Just as he passed the ruined temple.

"In the temple on the right 0.9 meters away, there is a chance."

Xun Xie raised his eyebrows.

Chance?

This is actually a very vague description, and the good and the bad are unpredictable.

Xun Xie pondered for a while but still decided to give it a try.

He parked the flatbed car aside, walked to the front of the temple, and stretched his head to look inside the main hall.

Just looking at it, his eyes suddenly widened, and he showed great fear.
