chapter 1: A man without talent

In the forest, Fei Li felt kind of exhausted, his palm slightly burned, looking at the fallen rocket pig in front of him. He muttered to himself, "Dealing with such a low-level demon beast requires so much effort. My cultivation is really weak."

Fortunately, he had a system. He could use the experience points he earned from hunting to advance his cultivation as long as he killed enough demon beasts. As a cultivator with low talent, without the system, he would likely be mocked for the rest of his life.

He was hunting demon beasts today, although he was supposed to collect Chinese herbs. After killing several rocket pigs, he casually picked a few herbs. He kept only one rocket pig for tonight's dinner, as these beasts weren't particularly valuable—after all, he was here to "gather herbs". As the sun began to set and the evening glow emerged on the horizon, he slowly walked out of the forest. Also, he saw two young menial disciples approach.

"Look," one of the young men said in a low voice.

"Be quiet," the other immediately whispered.

Fei Li gave them a nod and quietly walked past them. They were discussing him, and he could hear a few words: "poor talent". But he didn’t care and just continued walking.

He had been severely injured after falling into a valley, causing the soul from another world to be reborn in this body. His pre-rebirth memories were gradually blending with his present-day memories. He had gone out to hunt demon beasts and get ready to advance his cultivation because his mind had finally calmed down and his headaches had stopped.

Returning to his small and old wooden house, Fei Li sat cross-legged on the bed.

"Open system," he said in his mind.

Instantly, a light screen unfolded before his eyes:

Fei Li sighed as he looked at the talent column. Although practicing or training would increase his cultivation or martial skill points, the progress was incredibly slow. Fortunately, he had the system; otherwise, with his talent, he would never know when he might advance.

Investing most of the experience points into cultivation, a warm current instantly flowed through his entire body. Fei Li could clearly feel the changes in his internal spiritual power, becoming deeper and more condensed. He checked the system again and found that his cultivation had progressed to the Second Layer of the Meditation Phase.

Just as a satisfied smile appeared on his face and he was about to get up and pour some water, the old, worn-out door was suddenly opened, and a pleasant voice came from the entrance.

"Brother Fei Li!"

Fei Li looked up to see a lovely young girl standing in the doorway, smiling at him. The girl was around twenty years old, with large, bright eyes and a delicate nose, extremely beautiful. She wore a light green dress that made her look youthful and vibrant. She was Ke er Lin, the daughter of Zheng Hui Lin, the old man who lived across from him.

"Ke er? What brings you here?" Fei Li asked, and he is a little surprised.

Ke er Lin entered the room and gave him a slightly worried look. "You were only going into the forest to collect herbs, right? Why do you look so tired?"

Fei Li lied, "Yes! I was gathering herbs, but I was unlucky and encountered a rocket pig, haha!" He forced himself to laugh a little.

However, Ke er Lin wasn't fooled. She noticed something strange about Fei Li's hand and moved closer. Suddenly, she discovered clear burn marks and several blisters on his palm.

"You're burned?" Ke er Lin said worriedly. Without waiting for Fei Li's response, she quickly grabbed his hand and examined it carefully. "You haven't fully recovered from your last valley injury. There's no need to push yourself to go into the forest and gather herbs!" She looked up at Fei Li, her face full of concern. "You were severely injured and fainted when my dad discovered you in the valley!"

Seeing Ke er Lin's anxious expression, Fei Li felt warmth in his heart. He smiled embarrassedly, "It's nothing. This injury isn't serious."

"You're so worried about me, could it be..." Fei Li smiled.

Ke er Lin understood the implication. Her face turned slightly red, and she shyly lowered her head, saying, "Don't think too much. When my dad and I first moved here, you helped us a lot, so I'm just... just worried about you."

She turned and walked towards the door, saying, "I'll get some medicine for you to apply."

Soon, Ke er Lin returned with a small bottle emitting a medicinal herb smell.

"This isn't any magical pill, but it can relieve pain. Let me help you apply it," Ke er Lin said, walking to Fei Li's side.

Fei Li felt embarrassed and quickly waved his hand. "No need, I can do it myself. Thank you." He took the medicine bottle from her.

Ke er Lin glanced at Fei Li, her eyes showing a hint of doubt. She softly said, "I feel like you've changed a lot since falling into the valley."

"Really?" Fei Li asked nervously, still calm on the outside despite being startled inside.

Ke er Lin seriously nodded, continuing, "Before, you were an honest good person and didn't talk much. Now you seem a bit... less honest."

Fei Li forced herself to smile, unsure how to respond.

Ke er Lin seemed to sense his awkwardness and quickly added, "But you still seem like a good person, just not as naive as before, haha."

"You're calling me naive?" Fei Li pretended to be angry, raising his hand as if to knock her head.

Ke er Lin laughed and quickly dodged his hand.

As they were joking, a sound came from outside the door. A menial disciple stood outside and said to Fei Li, "Fei Li, steward Chen wants to see you."

Hearing the words "steward Chen", Fei Li had a bad feeling.

Realizing they may have been overheard, Ke er Lin felt embarrassed. "I... I'll go back now," she said, quickly leaving.

Fei Li immediately went outside and responded to the messenger, "Okay, thank you for letting me know. I'll be right there."
