Chapter 12: The First Five Years Part 1

In the first year, I was able to learn the language of the world. It was a bit difficult for me to understand the language at first. I had to learn the alphabet and the structure of the language. I was a fast learner thanks to the [Wisdom Skill] and was able to grasp the language within a few months.

I was able to learn a lot of things about the world I was reborn in. The world was called Ethyres, a land of prosperity and peace since the slaying of the previous Demon Lord a thousand years ago. The king of humans was seen as a benevolent ruler and the people loved him for his Heroism coming from a long line of Heroes. Meanwhile what I've gathered about my father is that he is a ruthless Demon who treasures power and is without mercy. He is the Demon King and is feared by all.

I was also able to learn about the other children in the playpen. They were all the children of the King. I was the only child of the Queen named Vazeth. I was the youngest of the bunch and the only one who was a Baphomet, a rare monster. The others were all of different species and races. So like I said, the King was busy. I still don't know his name. Hell, in this one year I haven’t even seen the man or what he looks like.

Despite it all, I feel a connection with my siblings even though they look at me with jealous eyes. I swore to myself that once I’m able to talk I plan to recruit as many of them as I can to the Legion. Nobody knows this, not even my friends know this about me…but I’m actually a HUGE monster fanatic. So I feel really really excited about the prospect of welcoming monsters to my cause.

There were over twenty monster children excluding the three legion members. That I happen to see the window pop up for all their races thanks to my trusty [Wisdom Skille]

Two Goblin girls.

One Owl Mage, most likely the older sister of Constantia.

A Fallen Angel girl.

A Fallen Valkyrie girl who seems to be close to each other at all times.

One Western Kobold girl.

One Eastern Kobold girl. Always arguing who’s the better kobold

One Mad Hatter girl who really enjoys tea time.

One Yuki-Onna

Two Imps who get along with the two Goblins

One Glazer girl, content with just watching everyone play with her dozens of eyes

One Hachishaku who seems to be really intrigued by me, always comes to play with me. For a kid she’s really tall.

One Kakuen girl.

One Cheshire Cat girl.

One Cait Sith girl.

One Crow Tengu girl.

One Aka-Oni.

And one Ao-Oni who seems to get along together.

One Orc girl.

One Amazoness girl who seems to always be testing each other’s strength

And last but not least, one Kitsune.

The pattern I’ve noticed is that they’re all girls. Not a single boy is found in the playpen. Which leads me to believe that this is no coincidence. Despite being a girl myself I happen to have one leg up above the rest. The fact that I have a banana as well. This may be a genetic fuck up or I just might be the only closes thing to a boy than the rest of the girls. I mean I’m glad I still have my manhood but it’s embarrassing to me that I even have one considering everyone is a girl. This is going to cause confusion down the line I’m sure of it.

Still being a baby is brutal. All I do all day is crawl. Sometimes I sneak away from the playpen to get a general layout of my surroundings.. Sometimes the other Legion members sneak out with me.

Year two, for five hours a day we go through etiquette training. Elaborate manners, and the royal court. Being an infant, it isn't easy to remember everything. We have tutors and teachers to help us out with our studies. Of course the other members who are a bit older than me take full advantage and try to catch up. I'm a little behind but thanks to my Wisdom skill I have a knowledge set that is on par with an adult so I’m not so worried. And there's more.

Through the first year, the elders find themselves taking an interest in magic. Soon, they decided to teach us the basics of spell casting. Fire spells, water, wind, earth, and plants. Apparently, I have an affinity for Darkness, and fire. One is self explanatory.

However, the amount of energy needed to cast these beginner level spells is beyond what an infant can muster. So, the teachers had the bright idea to limit the usage. During the study sessions, we're given orbs that have the properties of the elements. These orbs are used to manifest these elements. Even then, an infant only has so much energy, and such an exercise quickly wears us out. However, due to the orbs the teachers can monitor how much energy is left and once expended, the session ends.

This is the life of a young noble. Etiquette, magic, politics, and education. Somewhere in-between, you have to eat and sleep.

Occasionally, the other would chide me for my lethargy, but seeing the state my body was in, they couldn't really say anything.

Constantia the Owl Mage, was the most concerned. She would constantly want to know how I was doing, and was curious about the state of my mana.

What is your darkness and fire capacity like, Sod--, she would correct herself. I mean Tsubasa.

The fact that I couldn’t talk hasn’t deterred me from communicating with my friends. So I usually carry an ink pen and some paper to chat with. It's pretty low, sometimes the lowest among the group. But the problem is that during the sessions, my output is the strongest out of everyone. I'm not sure if it's because I have the highest aptitude, or if the skill of wisdom is at work, but either way, the end result is that the orbs I use are broken, and the actual magical output is so massive that the area gets engulfed in darkness or flames…or both.

Within the next two years, the adults became wary of me. They kept a close eye on me, and took note when the teacher would have us practice. Trying to display the results, the same thing happened. Each orb was shattered, and the room would be doused in a wave of dark or fire. After a number of attempts, and having had the various rooms burned to the point of needing a remodel, the king saw fit to stop my lessons entirely.

For now, the focus is on getting the children to be able to talk properly before the fourth year. So here I am, at two-and-a-half-years-old, taking a nap. My lullaby being the sounds of the other kids playing, and a few grumbles emanating from my stomach. Something woke me, a feeling of discomfort. It felt like something was wrapping itself around me. Something soft and warm. Feeling a sense of security, I opened my eyes to see Sam, now known as Constantia the Owl Mage. She's hugging me...she is hugging...me. I freeze stiff. What do I do in a situation like this?

Hey, wake up sleepy head.

Not knowing how to react, I fumble over my baby words. C-c-constantia w-what are you doing?

Shut up, she whispered.

Who does she think she is hugging the boss, Krieg the Lich, formerly known as Solomon Azezel Gresley chimed laughing.

I can't help it, the boss is so cute being a baby and all. Constantia interjected.

Nagai, shrugged as Belros laughed with Solomon.

Being the one in her arms, her voice was nothing more than a gentle coo. Her face was slightly flush and warm. I can feel her heartbeat accelerating.

Boss, you should have seen the look on Constantia's face when the maids wouldn't let her hold you. Hana the Gnoll, chimed, she was literally clawing at the maids. Funniest thing I ever saw hahahah!

It was a funny sight. Nagai smiled.

It's not funny, Constantia said.

Oh yes, it is, the boss' reactions are priceless.

In her defense, the maids wouldn't let anyone else pick her up. Constantia pouted.

I guess I can't complain. I thought to myself while being in her arms. I didn’t expect tone of my friends to have such motherly instincts.
