Adjusting to my new life

Currently, I sit on the endless fields of grass contemplating. In fact, I have been sat here for hours now. But you can't exactly blame me for that-can you? After all, getting your head around the fact you have most likely been transported to another world and are now in a new body isn't exactly the easiest thing. Am I happy that I left behind that horrible job? That would have to be a yes. But am I happy to have been teleported to a barren piece of land in a place I am unfamiliar with? I can't say I am...

'Grghhhhhh'

A ferocious sound erupts from somewhere around me and disrupts my train of thought. Could it possibly be a beast native to this world? Perhaps a dragon?! I tense up involuntarily, getting my body prepared to run away at a moments glance of it moving.

'Grghhhhhhhhqqqhhh.' The sound erupts again but this time I notice exactly where it comes from.

The source being my...stomach!

It seems to be telling me I'm hungry-I can't sit around forever. Dismissing the shock of the situation I am in for now, I decide to create some clear objectives for myself. Firstly, to acquire some food and water for myself so I don't die of starvation. Secondly, to find some sort of human settlement to find out more information about this strange world. And thirdly, to find a place I can live. So...let's see-first on the list is food. I turn my gaze ahead of me and the only colour absorbed by my eyes is a light shade of green for what seems like many miles-grass. Looking further into the distance, I can notice some trees that I spotted earlier. Perhaps they lead into a forest? And general knowledge from my world tells me in a forest are many food sources-but also many predators. Considering the fact this is a whole new world, there very well could be a chance some sort of fantasy creature is lurking in there awaiting me...

I quickly disregard the ominous thought and remind myself that I have no option but to venture towards them trees or starve to death and I think the former is better than the pitiful nature of the latter.

'Alright! Let's get going then Akio Sato!

Attempting to boost my motivation, I shout them words loudly but straight after doing so, get scared of my now-changed voice.

Some time has passed since I started walking towards the bunch of trees that were once far into the distance and now I find myself standing right in front of them. It seems my assumption of them leading into a forest was correct. What I see ahead is slightly...different to forests in my old world however. Instead of there being plentiful amounts of weeds, grass and various other types of plants and branches scattered around everywhere, in front of me now is something very much unrelated. Instead, before me, what seems to be an oddly-coloured pure black species of a 'tree' standing well over 200 feet (if I had to guess) makes it presence known all across the forest. Its pitch black, thick, tall trunk looks as if it could be as hard as steel and forged into a suitable weapon. Not to mention the craggy, twisted, somehow evil-looking branches attached firmly to it. On the ground level of the forest, there seems to be an assortment of oddly-coloured, inedible-looking plants with small, razor sharp spikes protruding from some of them. In fact, the only edible-looking thing in this whole 'forest' seems to be a small purple fruit-like object dangling from a few branches of the black trees.

Where exactly have I ventured into?!! I'm pretty sure I would have noticed 200 feet tall, black trees from the distance-wouldn't I?!

'Grghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh'

The sound of my stomach radiates throughout the air again, this time with one hundred times more voracity than before. I feel so famined that I wonder to myself if it is even natural for my hunger to increase in such a short period of time. Perhaps unwisely, I walk toward a black tree and pick the purple, fruit-like object from a branch. Should I really eat this foreign, potentially poisonous 'fruit'?

Ahhhh, but I'm so hungry!

And with that, I raise it to my mouth and take a big bite...

...

'SO TASTY!'

The rich, juiciness of the purple fruit-like object envelops my mouth creating a perfect harmony of flavour in my mouth. The thought of my caution towards it earlier vanishes in that instant. After I devour the rest of the delicious purple object, I stare absent-mindedly at the ground, feeling truly fulfilled and my hunger sated. It seems I have finally proven the 'if you don't know what it is, don't eat it' logic of my old world completely and utterly wrong.

...

But wait.

The flavour I once thought to be God-like seems to have abruptly changed. Instead, it is replaced by a revolting, bitter taste that triggers the urge for me to throw up. But...I am unable to do so. The vile flavour continues to spread across my mouth and the feeling as if I am burning follows straight after. Sharp pain shoots through my body and with that, I feel my back hit the ground as my consciousness starts to fade...

Is this how it will all end? Will I die again so soon? Will I not ever find out what that thing in my head telling me to live was?

...Is my life so worthless?

Just as the remnants of my consciousness fade away completely, a voice that I can no longer understand the meaning of enters my ears.

'Are you ok?!! Don't worry, I'll help you!'
