Chapter - 9: As of this moment, I am Grey

Chapter - 9: As of this moment, I am Grey

After an indeterminate amount of time, Luke's perception returned to normal again.

Rising from the floor with difficulty and a persistent headache, he realized he was back in the simple room, with the walls papered with discreet florals and not in the strange, vast ocean.

And the smell of incense still lingered in the air, but the three candles were almost spent with only a faint gray flame.

Using the bed as a support, Luke blew faintly and blew out the three candles, forming an imaginary triangle, then opened the window curtains so that the crimson light illuminated the room and sat down at the small desk.

Letting out a long sigh, he closed his eyes and reviewed what he had just experienced to see if he made a mistake somewhere during the ritual procedure.

I don't think I made a mistake in any of the ritual procedures; I followed the procedures the hooded old man gave me. But what went wrong? What part did I do wrong? Luke exhaled at length, leaning back in the wooden chair.

He had perfectly followed the steps in the note given to him by the hooded older man before transmigrating to this world, but he did not expect to encounter a vast ocean, and several questions came to his mind.

What was this vast ocean?

Why did the fate-changing ritual take me to that place?

Would that be related to my transmigration, or was there simply some unexpected element during the ritual?

Feeling a slight pain on the back of his left hand, he was brought out of his thoughts. He frowned and looked at his left hand.

With the help of the crimson light filtering through the window, he saw how, on its back, a snake formed a wheel connected to each other; after a few seconds, this mark disappeared.

Luke looked at this with surprise and a little fear, but seeing that nothing had happened, he exhaled in relief.

He focused back on his thoughts on what he had to do from now on.

Knowing that now, I can't return to the land using the destiny change ritual... But I must try this ritual again to see if I can fly to see that vast ocean.

Well, now I have to look for a way to return to land, but I have several problems with that. First, I have almost no information about this world, just the basics, and that, at the moment, is of no use to me.

Secondly, from what I have just experienced in this world, there are supernatural powers or something like that since I have no information about them. There was nothing like that in Grey's memory fragments, but this is where I have the problem.

How do I get supernatural powers? How do I get information about supernatural powers? Do I pray to any of the some of the eight gods to give me a blessing?

Luke let out a sigh as more thoughts kept popping into his mind. At that moment, he remembered the story told to him by Carlos, Miss Elena's husband, feeling his mind light up.

"I can find some answer in the cursed house since, according to what Carlo told me, the aristocrat Van Salem had supernatural powers..." Luke quickly became excited to see things coming together faster than he expected.

But suddenly, he shook his head while a small smile curved his lips as he muttered: I don't think it's a good idea to go to that cursed house after seeing that light and the presence of someone watching me.

When he remembered what he saw when he was returning to town with Carlos, his desire to investigate the cursed house of Van Salem disappeared quickly. Besides, today, Jonathan told him that several tourists had disappeared.

So Luke quickly dismissed any ideas about exploring the haunted house for the time being unless he had more information about it and then figured out what to do.

For the time being, I will concentrate on paying for my lodging. I may also ask Sister Adara from the Church of the Goddess of Judgment and Order if she knows anything more about that haunted house and the missing tourists.

Since she is the only one who notices the missing tourists, if I see that it hides some secret, I will stop my curiosity since I don't see any benefit for the moment.

Pushing aside his thoughts, he fixed his gaze on the window, looking out at the dark sky where the clouds almost completely covered the crimson moon.

After a moment of silence, he muttered to himself in discouragement, disappointment, and agony, "As of this moment, I am Grey."

Arkham.

Evan Ashord stood in the darkened room after opening his eyes in shock at what had just happened. He looked with astonishment and fear at the necklace his mother had left him before she died.

But before he could fully react, the necklace began to unravel like sand; panic gripped Evan's body as he watched the necklace and the only memory of his mother disappear in his hands.

"What, no, no, no..." Evan, in desperation, began to mutter hoarsely, trying to keep the necklace from unraveling in his hands like sand.

Seeing that the necklace showed no signs of stopping, he began to despair even more, and from the corners of his eyes, tears began to fall as memories of his mother flashed into his mind.

"No! What is happening? No, this can't be happening to me because my mother's necklace is disappearing in my hands..." he mumbled, his tone steadily increasing, and the tears showed no sign of stopping.

"NOOO!"

The necklace disappeared completely with this last piercing scream that echoed throughout the house.

Evan Ashord fell to his knees, grimly staring at the hole in the ceiling as if his soul had left his body while he watched his mother's necklace disappear in particles.

At this moment, everything seems unreal to him. He does not want to accept that the only object that made him feel close to his mother has disappeared as if nothing had happened, taking with it the only thing that gave a little color to his life besides his little sister.

His lifeless gaze contemplates the crimson moon that shines beautifully in the sky while silence invades the room. In his eyes, you can see an infinite sadness.

Bam! The worn door burst open, and Lys entered the room with a worried expression.

Seeing her brother who, only a moment ago, made a scream, kneeling, with a lost look as if his soul had escaped his body, while the crimson light illuminated his face, showing the tears running down his cheeks.

Lys felt an intense pain in her heart at the sight of her brother in that state and ran to him, giving him a tight hug without saying a single word.

After a few minutes of silence, Lys asks his brother with a soft and soothing voice.

"Evan, what happened? Why did you suddenly scream so loudly?"

Hearing his sister's soft voice, Evan regained some sense and, with a trembling mouth, said thoughtfully. "The only memory of our mother..."

He could not finish the sentence as tears continued streaming down his cheeks. The only memory she had of her mother disappeared right in front of her eyes, and she could do nothing to stop it.

Ouch... Evan felt a slight pain on the back of his left hand. With a confused expression, he fixed his gaze on the back.

He saw a snake forming a wheel connected; after a few seconds, this mark disappeared.

With a puzzled expression, he looked at his left hand and fearfully inspected it quickly, thinking that he had contracted some disease, alerting his sister, who was hugging him.

Lys, looking at her brother's reaction, asked worriedly. "Evan, what happened? Why is your left hand looking like that? Don't tell me you've contracted some disease?"

Evan, out of his state of shock, being calmer, told his sister everything that happened, from the necklace shining brightly to what appeared on the back of his left hand.

After telling his sister everything that had happened, they went to the living room, where the bed, the desk, and the closet were, to eat the bread he had stolen from the guys from before who were following him so as not to go to bed with an empty stomach.

Royal district, Russell Manor.

After the sudden flash stopped, Xyla looked at the dresser with fear, not expecting the brooch necklace to glow suddenly.

But that fear quickly turned to shock when it was confirmed that the bronze necklace really belonged to the ancient Augustus family of the Goetia empire!

With a beautiful smile on her lips and a bit of fear, she approached the exquisite dressing table to grab the bronze necklace.

If I grab this necklace, I will finally gain the powers of the Ascendents and experience the world of mysticism and mystery that I have always dreamed of.

Before she could reach the dressing table, the bronze necklace began to disintegrate so fast that Xyla did not even have time to react; she could only watch it disappear into particles in the air.

Watching this scene in shock, Xyla came to her senses and felt a slight pain in the back of her left hand.

Thanks to the crimson moonlight coming through the windows, he could see on the back of his hand a snake forming a wheel connected to each other. After a few seconds, this mark disappeared.

After experiencing all this, Xyla's lips lit up with a big smile as she danced joyfully. The dance "Menuet de la Cour" is very famous among the aristocrats and high officials of the Leonesse kingdom.

Xyla, calm down; you're a noble of the Russell family... Xyla quickly pulled herself together, unable to hide her smile.

She lay down on the bed and looked at the ceiling; once she got the Ascendents' powers, she was already imagining the future.

Binger.

At the Cloister & Crafts company, Agatha Christie had closed her eyes due to the flash of her bracelet.

Cautiously, she opened her eyes; first, she checked her body to see if she had suffered any change or had any in her body.

After a severe inspection, she looked at her left hand, only to see the bracelet turn into particles blown away by the cold night wind.

"What just happened?" Agatha frowned. She noticed no anomaly in her body, but she felt slight discomfort. She didn't know where it came from.

She looked at her hand where she had the bracelet before it disappeared and saw a snake forming a wheel connected to each other.

Her eyes dilated, and out of fear and shock, she instinctively rose from her seat in fright. But before she could do anything, the snake mark disappeared without a trace on the back of her hand, where she held the bracelet.

"What's going on?" Without understanding anything about what had just happened, Agatha sat down heavily in the chair and muttered in a heavy tone. "Tomorrow I have to go to St. Bacilo's Cathedral..."

Avebury Town, Dark Oak Inn.

Grey stopped looking at the sky after organizing his thoughts and clarifying his objectives not to feel lost.

Yawning, he got up from the desk and went straight to bed; mental and physical fatigue hit him hard, making him unable to resist sleep.
