25 - Celestial Fruit

Four-Tails was now scooping up several shining weapons in his arms, greed apparent in his features as he dashed through the chamber. Even after his arms were full of treasure he kept shoveling more things on top, paying no mind to the invaluable items that were falling behind him as he ran.

Suddenly, Six-Tails abruptly lashed out at the smaller monkey, roughly smacking him on the back of his head. Four-Tails recoiled from the hit and spun around, turning to face Six-Tails with a bowed head. It was amusing to see this six-foot tall monkey act like a child getting scolded.

“No take! Flying pup get first grab of loot!” he shouted, snatching the treasures from his grasp and throwing them back on the floor.

As the treasures clattered onto the ground, I looked at Six-Tails with a new light.

‘This monkey is actually a good guy.’ I thought with a chuckle, peering across the chamber to decide what I should take first.

I felt like a kid in a candy shop, and there were a number of items that immediately drew my attention. There was that wicked looking sword embedded with gems, and even that powerful looking staff that was brimming with celestial energy. I couldn’t use the magic of this world yet, but I knew that such an item would likely sell for an absorbent sum in any city.

Unfortunately, I had no way to take more than a few things. With this in mind, I gingerly floated towards the golden throne sitting at the end of the chamber. My eyes landed upon the blue banana that was sitting on its surface, and I figured that this seemingly normal banana was not as mundane as it first appeared. For starters, it was radiating a subtle glow of celestial energy. The fact that Seven-Tails left this banana on his throne also hinted that it held great importance. I wrapped my aether around the banana, floating it into the air in front of me.

As I looked it over, I heard the sounds of coins clinking as Six-Tails ran across the chamber to my position.

“That is Great Banana! Seven Tails keep all bananas for himself to get more tails, get more strong.” he said, his eyes gleaming with greed as he looked at the banana.

I had already connected the dots from what the six-tailed monkey had previously told me in his own chamber. This banana was clearly a ‘Celestial Fruit’, and it was evident that these monkeys treasured these fruits greatly.

‘I wonder what kind of power I could gain by eating this. It seems like it benefits those monkeys greatly, if it's comparable to Picea’s essence, perhaps it could help me develop my celestial core.’ I mused, turning the fruit around in the air.

Six-Tails looked like he wanted to cry as he watched me levitate the banana in front of him, likely regretting his earlier announcement that I would get first dibs of the loot.

“Flying pup, do you want trade?” he asked, rubbing his hands together like a fly.

My eye twitched with annoyance when I heard this, “You big monkey! Didn’t you say I would get first grabs?” I nodded my head, making up my mind, “This is what I want.”

“B-but, you just little monkey. You already so strong!” he pleaded.

I smirked, “Yeah, and imagine how strong I’d get after eating this thing.”

The white monkey turned around, suddenly running back towards the center of the chamber to rummage through the vast piles of treasures. He picked up the magical staff from earlier, a number of swords, and a few random trinkets. I watched with a wry smile as he then turned to run back to me, numerous treasures and valuables falling from his grasp with each step, clattering onto the floor. I couldn’t help but wonder—what the hell is wrong with this big monkey’s head?

“Here, take good shinies.” he said, dangling a rather sharp sword at me, “This make flying pup strong.” he finished, trying his best to convince me that this wasn’t a fleecing.

“How about, no?” I answered, growing even more agitated.

However, Six-Tails abruptly grabbed his wrist, and then proceeded to pull off the silver bracelet he was wearing. As he slid the bracelet off of his white fur, it began to elicit a series of bright flashes.

The bracelet flashed a vibrant blue several times almost as if it was blinking, before it stopped entirely. I could sense an intense wave of celestial energy each time the bracelet blinked with light—it was obviously a powerful artifact.

“Me give you space band!” he exclaimed, evidently desperate now.

‘Space band, huh?’ I thought, my curiosity piqued. I had long since been wondering what secrets this bizarre bracelet held.

“What does it do? Is that how you pull objects in and out of thin air?” I asked, peering at the bracelet inquisitively.

Six-Tails’ gruff voice had a prideful tinge to it, “Space band can hold one hundred, and one hundred—and one hundred more things.”

As the monkey held the peculiar device in his meaty hands, I began to wonder if this was actually much more valuable than it would initially seem. Something that could hold a neigh limitless amount of items would be near priceless, perhaps even more so than a Celestial Fruit. Six-Tails was incredibly desperate to get his hands on this banana, which showed its inherent value. However, I had no idea how such a thing would react with my child body. It was clearly considered a delicacy to the monkeys, but I wasn’t a monkey.

It took me an entire year of drinking Picea’s essence to advance my growth by just two years. There’s a good chance that this single fruit will have a negligible effect on my development. This wasn’t even to mention the fact that this supposed Great Tree was supposed to be able to make more of these fruits!

‘That ‘space bracelet’ seems like a once in a lifetime kind of item, and if I can somehow get that Great Tree to make more bananas, I could both have my cake and eat it too.’ I thought, contemplating my options.

Eventually, I made up my mind, “Alright you big ape, but I also get to keep everything in it.” I threw in, still trying to barter. I wanted to gauge just how much this monkey really wanted this banana.

Surprisingly, Six-Tails didn’t even object to this, “Yes! Here, take!” he exclaimed, jumping up to snatch the banana out of the air without preamble.

He then shoved the bracelet at me as if it was trash, long forgotten from his mind as he rapidly tore the peel from the banana. Within seconds he was devouring the banana ravenously, soon leaving not even a crumb behind. Four-Tails was watching this from the back with drool dripping from his jaws, but Six-Tails paid him no mind as he let out a resounding belch.

“Good trade!” he said, licking his lips.

Inwardly, I was actually quite happy about this trade. This monkey was quite near-sighted to give up on such a valuable item filled with his own treasures. I didn’t know what it would take to make that magical tree bear fruit again, but I would rather take my chances with that than lose the chance to acquire such an item.

As I looked at the shining bracelet in front of me, I began to wonder if I actually overlooked something.

“Wait, does this thing require celestial energy to use?’ I wondered, hoping I didn’t just screw myself over.

I promptly floated the bracelet to me, and then slid it over my wrist. The bracelet was fitted to the monkey’s size, so it left several inches of space between my wrist. Fortunately, a blue light flashed from the bracelet, and it abruptly shrunk down until it sat snugly on my arm. Once it made contact with my skin, the bracelet began to rapidly flash the same way it had when Six-Tails took it off. It almost reminded me of the Bluetooth pairing some devices had in my previous world.

After a few seconds the blinking subsided, and I felt a torrent of information instantly rush into my brain. A vast, intangible space became visible to me, and I belatedly realized that I was actually standing in some uncanny dimension.

A flat, dull grey landscape appeared in all directions, continuing on for as far as my eyes could see. What was more interesting were the scores of objects levitating around me. Shining swords and strange weapons floated in place next to unknown trinkets and artifacts.

To my dismay, I couldn’t move at all. My limbs weren’t responding to my commands, and I couldn’t even summon my aether to move my body.

Strangely, I could somehow still focus on the items near me, and even zoom into them with my mind. I focused on a random sword with a sabre-like appearance, and suddenly, the grey dimension that I was in disappeared!

Color flooded into the world as my senses returned back to reality, and I could feel the cool tang of metal as I felt the hilt of the sabre on my palm. When I attempted to pull the sword of the storage dimension, I remembered that I was just shy of two years old. My little limbs simply held no strength to lift such a weighty weapon, so I sent a tendril of my aether towards the sabre’s hilt, promptly wrapping it in its grasp.

I watched in wonder as the sword revealed itself from the bracelet’s alternate world, and soon it was shining brightly under the golden glow of the chamber.

‘So that’s how Six-Tails was doing it!’ I realized, growing even more convinced that this was a priceless artifact

Now, I was wondering how to put the sword back into the bracelet. I focused on the sabre, mentally demanding it to go back to where it came from. Suddenly, blue light flashed from the bracelet on my arm. My eyes widened as I watched the saber abruptly disappear from in front of me.

‘This thing is awesome!’ I thought, now floating over towards the treasure horde to try to test it out further.

Focusing on a random golden chalice, I made a mental command to the bracelet. I was pleased to see that the device could seemingly read my mind, and I watched the goblet abruptly disappear from the pile of gold following a blue flash from my arm.

I laughed aloud, mentally commanding everything in front of me to go into the storage dimension. I snatched up entire chests of jewels and coins, that strange tome I had seen earlier, the glowing mirror, and even that magical staff that was brimming with celestial energy. Blue light flashed from my arm as I flew around the room like a greedy fairy, grabbing everything that looked to be of above-average value. Soon, nearly half of the vast mountains of treasure had been absorbed into the bracelet.

“Alright!” I announced, “I’ve gotten my first dibs. You guys can have everything here.” I said, as if I hadn’t just taken everything good from the chamber only a few moments ago.

Six-Tails and his companion had their jaws slack in astonishment, likely not thinking that I would be so blatantly greedy.

‘First come first serve.’ I thought to myself in contentment, but outwardly I reassured them, “Don’t worry, my furry friends. I will bring back the bananas to the Great Tree and you will both be able to eat good.”

“I’ll also need to keep this chamber to accomplish my mission, I will be taking this as my new residence.” I added without shame.
