Chapter 1: Randy

Chapter 1: Randy

Inside a small convenience store, a strong towering young man was restocking the shelves. He had black swept-back hair, water droplets eyebrows, and gentle but tired eyes.

He was wearing headphones that attaches to a cassette tape, the tape played Virtual Reality by Jamiroquai. He started lip-syncing while dancing throughout the store. He looked funny while pretending to sing with his long face and straight nose but this does not bother him at all.

He continued to work while dancing with the lyrics. Mopping while moonwalking, grooving while wiping the dust.

At the counter, a beautiful lady was recording the guy on her phone. She had luscious lips with piercings, a voluptuous body, and long black hair. She giggled while recording her co-worker dancing.

A tall and slim man leaned over her and saw the video. The man had blonde-painted hair, stubble, and eyebags. He smiled widely and giggled, “Wo hoi, Randy's dancing?”

The lady smiled and replied, “Told you he can dance.”

The man smiled at an empty space, “Well shit, there goes my money.” he gave the money to the lady and the lady chuckled as she counted the cash. After that Randy finished cleaning and dancing, then went over to the counter.

The lady teased him “Nice moves, Randyboy~”

Randy replied, “Says the one who can't dance.”

The man gasped, “Oooohhhh, shiet. He told you, you can't dance. You just gonna accept that?”

The lady got mad, “Oh yeah Mike? Can you do better!? Huh!?” Mike immediately danced like a worm having a stroke. Randy laughed his ass off and fell to the floor. Mike laughed like he had an asthma attack. The lady's brow squeezed upwards then scratched her head.

Mike recovered from laughing, “You should've seen your face, it was priceless!” and he continued laughing.

Randy got up and asked, “Welp, I had fun. So anyways, KC do you have the thing I asked you yesterday?”

KC took something from her pocket and before she could give it to Randy, a deafening siren cried out loud throughout the town. The three immediately closed the store and locked it outside.

Their manager busted out from his office, and told everyone, “Everyone gear up!” and threw three large briefcases. The three quickly suited up and went to the rooftop.

When they arrived upstairs, they were all wearing black spandex suits with metal armor. Then below the store, thousands of people ran in one direction. A colossal cylindrical building, fortified with jet black steel armor and heavy artillery.

The ground started rumbling and breaking. Eventually splitting the ground, creating a deep dark chasm. The hole then screeched terrifying sounds, as if the souls of the damned came back to engulf the world in madness.

Randy picked up a spear, KC and Mike equipped an automatic crossbow, and lastly, their manager armed himself with a giant cannon. All armed and ready for what's to come.

There were other people from different buildings who are armed as well. Shooting and slaying nearby monsters.

The chasm glowed a bright cyan color, then a claw came out and scratched the surface. The chasm erupted hundreds of monsters, big and small. Varying from giant wild animals to chimeric abominations. Charging savagely and wrecking anything in its path.

Randy aimed at the horde, he harnessed the spear's power and threw it with all his might. The spear flew like a jet and punctured a line of monsters. Randy's arm was bruised severely from the throw. He groaned in pain, and his co-workers looked worried.

The monsters then charged at them, looking ferocious and furious. Everyone shot down some monsters but they couldn't stop all of it.

Randy picked up a spear again and took a heavy breath that sounded like falling snow. He had a flashback of him playing games with his brother, whether it was video games or playing outside. Randy took a stance and shot it like a cannon; he was blown away by his own strength.

The approaching monsters got decimated in a straight line. This attack stopped them from advancing further. Everyone on the rooftop shivered in awe as they saw Randy's arm torn to shreds after the throw.

Everyone immediately rushed to him and started treating his wounds. The monsters took this chance— then glowing javelins rained from above, killing all monsters.

“Well, looks like they're on time,” Mike was relieved. In the sky, a man was floating on a javelin, basking in the yellow sun. Down below were powerful people with supernatural abilities crushing monsters left and right.

Some of them came to aid the injured. They treated Randy and the others. One of them completely healed Randy's arm with no sweat.

“Astig! As expected from an Arcanist,” Randy thought while being healed.

Many monsters were slain, a handful of people were saved, and several corpses were retrieved. Thus the battle has ended.

After the events, Randy, Mike, and KC were to go home. Their manager insisted that they should rest after that horrible event. The three parted ways and said their goodbyes.

Randy went home to his apartment, and to his surprise, a young boy waiting for him. The boy hugged Randy tightly while tears flowed down. “Oy, oy, Rick I'm fine, ya don't need to cry,” Randy tried to calm Rick down.

“K-Kuya, I thought y-you were a goner, w-when I heard the news,” Rick stuttered. Randy patted his younger brother's back and hugged him back. Rick then stepped back a little. “Oh right Kuya, I have something to tell you.”

“Aight lay it to me,” Randy said.

Rick took a deep breath, “Papa wants you to go home. He found out.”

Randy's face immediately turned dark and emotionless. “Tell him, I've made my choice. I have no intentions of coming back after what they did.”

Rick pleaded, “Wait Kuya, Papa wants to settle things properly and talk to you this time.”

Randy recalled the day he left the house, after announcing to his parents that he will never go to college. His mother went into a tantrum while ranting about how ungrateful he is. Meanwhile, his father looked disappointed and tried to convince Randy that his future will be ruined if he does not finish his study. After a long heated argument, they came to a close by Randy leaving the house.

Randy responded, “I've made my mind, I'm not going back.”

Then his father called him from behind. “So you've made up your mind without talking it through?”

Randy flinched about this sudden arrival, “How did you get my address? And why are you here?”

Randy's father looked at him with sorrow in his eyes, “As I said, I came to talk this through.”

The mad Randy looked at Rick, “Did you tell him?” Rick nodded while shaking. “Since when?”

Rick swallowed his throat, “A month later after our reunion...” Randy looked disappointed at Rick.

Randy subtly mad, “Ok, Pa say what you have to say, I got some business to attend to.”

Their father held back his tears, “Son, I am glad that you are doing alright on your own. In fact I am proud to see you like this, being able to live and feed yourself without our support. But that doesn't change the fact that I made terrible mistakes before.

When you said you were going to leave, I was confident that you will come crawling back to us and apologize or that you start living at your friend's house. However that kind of thinking led me to a big blunder, you didn't come back home for three months; I became worried. So I came to check up on you, I assumed that you lived with one of your friends for the past months but I was wrong. All the friends you've made and people you knew, never saw you within those months. Your mother and I panicked, we went on spreading missing posters about you and getting help from the local police. After countless months of searching, almost everyone gave up except for me; I fear that I might lose you forever but one day. Rick told me about your whereabouts. I found hope and rushed to see you. There I saw you, having good friends, working a paying job and a warm place to stay. All the stress and worries I've built up vanished the moment I saw you doing well. I don't expect you to forgive me but seeing you all right is enough for me.”

Randy was speechless after what his father said. Rick was left in tears.

Their father leaked tears of joy, “Okay, Rick let's go home. Also Randy...thank you for listening to me. Always remember your mother and I love you. We regret what we did to you. If you have the time, feel free to visit us sometimes.” then him and Rick went on the road.

Randy was suffocating from the guilt and regret of his actions. Squeezing him internally, twisting both his guts and mind. “Wait!” his father and brother turned around. “I-I've changed my mind, maybe I'll come and visit tomorrow...”

Their father hastily embraced him tightly, and Randy slowly embraced back.

The sky turned into a sinister shade of purple, the whole city was engulfed in a dome of malevolence. Everyone in the dome received a mark on different parts of their body. The people in the city collectively felt a scorching pain throughout their bodies as the mark grew like roots. Outside the dome were horrifying chimeric abominations marching into the city.
