Patrol Part 2 - Chapter 5

Patrol Part 2 - Chapter 5

If a sorcerer was to use their body as a catalyst for mana in a spell that does not align with their innate element, the consequences will be severe, commonly resulting in the sorcerer's organs turning into liquid.

Magic circles do not inherently have this issue. However, magic circles cannot discern the type of mana they are given without the use of ‘Serapis’ or the ‘mana element designation’. While the Serapis is not strictly necessary, its use is strongly advised until the sorcerer has developed sufficient skill and experience. Note that multiple Serapis may exist within one magical circle, but they must be connected to the innermost circle.

The Serapis ensures that even in the context that the mana provided is not of the correct element, it will not be catastrophic. For those willing to take a risk, the ‘Serapillion’, or ‘mana element translator’ ring, can be added to the Serapis. This combination allows mana of a different element to slowly change to the appropriate element, although this practice is highly discouraged due to its complexity and the increase in risk.

An excerpt from ‘Workings of a Magic Circle: Book 1’

----------------------------------------

After going through the large room again, we went into another tunnel, this one, however, was wider.

After a while of moving, Eline had started to make some sort of hum for an odd reason. And the tunnel's walls and floor transitioned from a grayish tone to a mix of a light brown with a reddish-brown.

“Alright we should be far enough that it should be safe to let you go.”

Eline stopped its hum as it let me down onto the ground before it continued moving forwards without me this time.

“Come on Eclipse what are you waiting for!”

Eline called out as it slightly turned around.

I’m not sure, I expected not to be able to move freely until we went back to the room.

I was happy knowing I could roam freely again. I once again heard my own legs clicking against the ground as I caught up with Eline.

I do miss being high up though.

----------------------------------------

There was a room at the end of the tunnel, it looked big as the back wall was blurry, however I was able to see the black roof with white blurs placed around randomly.

The floor was extremely uneven with green spikes going upwards everywhere making me wonder about the purpose of it. All the other floors were flat after all.

Why did it seem so familiar though?

As we got closer, I noticed that the so-called ‘room’ wasn’t a room... Rather it was a large open space, and the so-called floor were blades of grass I had seen so many times in my knowledge. Though this grass was far shorter than what I had seen in my knowledge.

I wonder if my siblings were around this place.

Then I looked up and my vision was captivated by a singular large light sitting between the numerous little lights, something about it made my whole being yearn for it.

I was broken out of my state once I heard some strange noises next to me, which was Eline doing strange movements with its limbs. After a moment, Eline stopped and lowered itself just enough for its appendages to be able to stroke my fur.

“Alright Eclipse I’m going to do a quick scout just to make sure there isn’t anything too dangerous, make sure to not go too far from the entrance.”

Just then something ripped through Eline’s back shell, its form a deep rich red accompanied by a few twitches. Wings.

Glistening large wings, one side unfurled, yet the other not moving until Eline had shook itself. Unlike the soft edges that were present on my wings, these were rough, sharp, and ripped with the same red liquid I had seen so much leaking from the rips turning the green grass a shade of red.

Eline stretched them out once, testing them out with a light flap, spraying the red liquid in a wide range. One of them looked far more ruined than the other, which showed as the other moved far stronger. Eline, however, didn’t seem bothered as it took off into the air shakily and flew high.

I looked in the direction Eline had left in for a long moment and felt my own wings subconsciously move a few times. Before momentarily glancing at the light in the dark sky, the feeling of yearning was still there, but I wasn’t fixated on it. Rather I turned my attention elsewhere.

How far is too far?

I looked at the blurry brown wall in front of me with tops that were a blend of red, orange and yellow.

I’ll just go up there, I guess?

My legs no longer made the satisfying clinking sound on the soft grass, rather it was quiet if not for the wind rustling something in the distance.

Those are... Trees, I think?

Being closer allowed me to see rough deep brown bark reaching far into the sky as an uncountable number of sticks of different thicknesses stretched out from the base ending off with an even higher number of orange, red and yellow oval shaped leaves.

Streaks of soft light made their way through the leaves dotting the ground. Underneath the tree were loose leaves scattered along the green grass and roots that peaked out from the ground.

There were enough trees that they looked like they continued to infinity as I saw another blurry brown wall after this mass gathering of trees. It was as beautiful as what I had seen in my knowledge. Maybe even more.

I continued moving along the ground, looking up through the leaves into sky that seemed fragmented with patches of black leaking through the orange, red and yellow.

I never expected a place like this to exist so close to the boring plain place I was forced to be in.

Why did Eline’s species decide to spend their time underground?

I looked back at where I had come from, and decided I had to leave. I wanted to explore this world more.

Once I turned back to look at the wall of trees, I noticed something gliding along the ground, it was some sort of creature. It moved like water and was green mixing in with the ground too well that I was having trouble seeing it, the only reason I could follow it with my eyes was because every time the creature moved in a spot where the light lit up, the creature’s shell would sparkle where the lit hit. It was beautiful.

Hello?

I looked in curiosity as it stopped trying to hide its presence and extended its body out of the grass easily dwarfing me but allowing me to see its tan under body. Its body curved in a strange, but interesting way. What I assumed was its head, was oval shaped with eyes being pitch black orbs on either side of its head.

A pink rectangular object with a split end momentarily exited its mouth as it looked down at me.

Do you understand me?

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

I waited; however, no answer told me everything I needed to know.

Not too surprised, I attempted to move away from the creature as those eyes were making me uncomfortable.

However, the creature had other ideas. Its mouth opened far revealing a serrated edge for both parts of the mouth. And then in a blur, rushed me. I didn’t want some strange creature touching me, so I reacted immediately by moving back a bit and the creature clamped its mouth down on my wing.

I felt a rush of heat and watched as the world slowed down, feeling all my fur stand up. I watched as my entire top wing was ripped off with the creature pulling to the side. Gray droplets splattered against the head of the creature and along the ground.

The heat doubled and I felt something start to thump inside of me, it was all I heard. The feeling was intense, I couldn’t move. for but a moment there was silence, but then my mind told me to move.

So, I did, and the creature flew right past me, I didn’t look at what it clamped onto, I simply moved.

I didn’t know where I was moving, the feeling was too intense, why was it going throughout my body, what was the thumping, why could I feel it, what's with the heat.

The creature was faster, I felt its mouth once again clamper on my body, my body cried out for me, however I couldn’t move no matter how hard I struggled.

The creature’s body was wrapping around me.

The pressure it was putting on me worsened the feeling and the heat.

The thumping increased and I was starting to see darkness.

Then I felt the pressure dissipate and the creature let go, I didn’t waste a moment and moved. I had to leave; I don’t want to be here.

I heard muffled sounds, but the thumping was louder.

I moved only a little farther before I felt my legs no longer touching the soft ground. Panic ensued, for but a moment before I noticed the one holding me was Eline, her wings gone once again.

“Thats why I didn’t say to go too far, thankfully it was only a snake.”

Eline didn’t sound happy, but I couldn’t tell, the thumping was still there.

Eline exhaled loudly, before placing me on the ground again.

“Well, aren’t you going to take revenge?”

Revenge?

I looked up at Eline and tried moving closer, however I stopped and started backing away tripping over myself as the creature from before thrashed in front of me under Eline’s lower limb. Its mouth opened and stained with gray liquid. I felt the same feeling when my wing was ripped remerge.

Why is it still here?!

“Aw this is nostalgic, it's like looking at a younger version of me!”

Eline reached out and rubbed my head, but I didn’t find comfort if that creature was around.

“There there, you got this! Trust me you’ll feel better once you inflict the same pain this little guy did on you.”

Pain? This was pain?

Pain, a feeling I had just felt, I hated. I continued staring at the creature that had inflicted pain on me.

I felt myself get pushed closer to the still thrashing creature by Eline’s appendages.

“Maybe I’m expecting too much from a baby... Alright let me help you out then!”

I watched as a familiar wavy triangular object pierced the mouth of the creature, closing it and pinning it to the ground.

“There is that better?”

It was better, but I could still feel the heat going throughout my body, reminding me that I was missing one of my wings entirely.

Eline didn’t seem to see my discomfort and rather used its other appendages, placing one of them in between the pitch-black orbs of the snake.

“I think your leg is sharp enough to pierce the scales of a snake, just place it here and push.”

I was pushed a little closer to the creature... the snake? Then Eline removed its appendages from me. Giving me a choice, I think. I looked into the orifice of Eline, yet only the darkness was looking back at me.

I quickly looked back at the snake; its mouth now snapped shut as it leaked the same red liquid.

With another thud reminding me of the pain I had felt, I carefully placed one of my pitch-black legs where Eline had told me to. I could feel the slickness of the snakes, shell? I think Eline had said scales?

Did I want it to feel pain?

I didn’t know, I felt like I didn’t. Yet with the towering figure of Eline watching and the constant thumping I felt, I pushed through.

At first nothing happened, then my leg slipped momentarily and slid in between the snake's scales and sunk farther inside the snake's head. I saw the snake thrash one more time and then go limp.

The turquoise rectangle made its appearance.

Assisted In Killing Snake LV 5 Minimal amount of EXP gained.

“Good job Eclipse! Congrats on your first kill!”

I felt the weight of Eline’s appendages on my head, it felt nice. I quickly removed my leg from the snake, and I felt myself get picked up before I could question what had happened to the snake.

“Let's go fix that wing of yours, don’t worry! I had my wings removed a couple of times, thankfully I had Vincent around to reattach them every time it went missing.”

My wing can come back?

My mind was a haze, I was still trying to understand what I did, Eline and the rectangle had said I killed the snake? Well, the rectangle said I had assisted, but what was killing anyways? Is that why the snake went limp?

I don't know, all I know is that I wanted the feeling of pain to go away. It had decreased, the heat was starting to cool off and the thumping was starting to slow down and quieten, but it was still there.

Eline then grabbed my missing wing, looking at it made me feel weird knowing the snake had ripped it off.

“Oh right, you’re bleeding, I should probably get you to Vincent quickly.”

Eline wasted no more time and moved quickly back into the tunnel.

----------------------------------------

Once we reached the large room with the circle, I noticed that all the red creatures had surrounded the large magical circle and were doing the same motions together while making some sort of sound.

I was confused by this sight, but Eline didn’t seem all that bothered. After placing me into its shell once more, it moved to one of the smaller red creatures and pulled it back. Momentarily stopping the strange sounds of the other creatures, before they continued.

“Hey Vincent, I need your help with something.”

Eline spoke quietly to the smaller red creature.

“Eline, can’t you see we are in the middle of a summoning?!”

Vincent spoke quietly with a harsh tone.

“Yeah, but this is urgent, a wing got ripped out.”

There was a moment before Vincent exhaled and then we moved away from the magical circle.

“What happened this time.”

Vincent spoke loudly once we got into another tunnel and immediately into a brightly lit room. There was a table off to the side with strange objects on it and another one of those rectangular objects with a serrated edge, however this time the object was hollow in the middle.

In the middle there was an elevated surface.

“Well, this time, my friend here got attacked by a snake and now its wing is gone.”

Suddenly I was placed on the elevated surface with my wing beside me. Vincent immediately paused.

“So, Holt did keep it around, is it part of his plan?”

Vincent leaned closer to me for a moment.

“Yup, he has high hopes for it.”

There was a drawn-out exhale from Vincent before it moved to the table and grabbed a cylinder object and a triangle object similar to Eline’s, however this one was straight instead of being wavy.

“Wasn’t it a lesser Infernal?”

“Yeah, Holt was lying, in fact it's a thing called an Insectoid!”

“Never heard about it... Anyways was the snake Poisonous?”

“Nope, Eclipse did lose a lot of blood though.”

“Eclipse is the name of the creature? Huh.”

Vincent moved over to me and roughly grabbed onto where my wing went missing, its touch irritating and making the heat return. I tried moving away immediately.

“Tch, don’t move so much, you’re making it worse.”

Vincent used its other appendage to keep me still.

“Oh, I should mention that Eclipse is still a baby!”

Eline spoke up causing Vincent to let go allowing me to go farther away from Vincent.

“This is information you should tell me immediately, not as I'm about to start.”

Vincent sounded annoyed as it put its limb inside its shell for a moment before pulling out a transparent rectangular object with a transparent gray liquid.

“Alright it won’t be painful this time, so stay still, it’ll only sting.”

I tried to go farther from Vincent, however I was already at the edge of the elevated surface. And could only watch as Vincent used its appendages to grab me and pull me closer, I still struggled, however I felt something cool go over where my wing was missing.

“There better? You want your wing back or not?”

Vincent stopped and I simply looked into its orifice in slight confusion since the heat had immediately dissipated.

“I’m taking that as a yes, it's still going to sting a bit so don't move. Eline come here and hold the wing for me.”

This time, with a bit of hesitation, I allowed Vincent to touch me. I tried to look at what it was doing once Eline held my ripped off wing, however I couldn’t.

“Alright I’m going to start now.”

Then I felt a stinging sensation, and something entered and exited my body. I twitched for a moment, but I stayed still.

----------------------------------------

For a while that’s all I felt, it was uncomfortable, and I twitched every now and then. But overall, I kept still.

Once Vincent let go of me, I immediately looked back and saw my wing back in its place.

“Don’t move it!”

Vincent suddenly said loudly, startling me.

“The procedure isn’t over, so sit still.”

Vincent then carefully wrapped its appendages around my wing, and after a moment a yellow glow came out from in between the appendages and Vincent let go.

“Alright now it should be fixed completely, it will itch for about a few days, and make sure... Eclipse won't use that wing for at least a week. But afterwards it should be completely fine. And like always there will be scarring.”

I ignored what Vincent was saying and looked at my wing, it was there!

“Alright Eclipse we should get going before Holt finds out you’re missing.”
