The Past Part III. Chapter 34

Vert sees his former Seargent and is filled with mixed feelings. He is relieved at first but then Vert swears he saw Luck wearing a Chinese uniform. He drives out of the garage while staring at the rearview mirror and he sees Luck turn the corner and pull out a pistol. Gunshots shatter the back glass to the vehicle as Vert ducks for his life. He continues to drive down the winding dirt path, thinking he has finally escaped but a bright light appears over his vehicle. Vert looks out the window to see a helicopter following Vert and illuminating his position. Gunshots echo throughout the land as bullets pierce the high-speed vehicle.

Vert turns the steering wheel sharply left and right trying to escape his impending doom but something ahead makes his blood run cold. The road is becoming smaller and smaller as it is going along the side of a cliff. The helicopter keeps shooting at Vert not letting him gain an inch of ground away from them. A bullet flies right past Vert's face and he panics, turning the steering wheel to the right and causing the vehicle to go over the cliff ledge. Weightlessness is all Vert can feel as the water at the bottom of the cliff came closer and closer. Vert's body tenses up and he holds his breath, awaiting impact.

As the front of the vehicles crashes into the water, Vert shoots up from his former laying down position and is currently sitting on what seems to be a bed. The comfy mattress softens Vert's stiff body as he feels all over himself to see if this is still a dream. He is sweating profusely and as he touches his torso his skin feels slightly leathery. He looks down to see his body is scarring from his bad burns from the fight with Myria. His breathing is shaky and he is on high alert as he has no idea where he is.

The white sheets on the bed remind him that off a hospital bed from his old world and the room seems to be made of wood. Vert looks at his hands to see what scares him the most, nothing. His gauntlets are gone and he fears they might never return.

'If they don't come back then.... Maybe I can kill myself and get them back!'

Foolishly thinking that suicide is the only answer if it comes down to it, Vert doesn't notice the other presence in the room and that is for a reason. A short woman is hiding under a cloth in the corner of the room but not just any cloth, an invisible one. She is just staring at Vert, waiting for him to do something so she can record it and send it to her master. Vert, who is now used to his surroundings, shrugs and decides it is time to get up. The blanket falls off his lower half as he stands up and he looks down to see himself naked.

Confused on why this the case, Vert just slightly tilts his head to the side and shrugs once again. The Gnome woman in the corner sees a man naked for the first time in her life and lets out a surprised yelp. As Vert goes to take a step forward, he stops dead in his tracks and looks towards the empty corner. He doesn't know what that sound was but now he feels like someone is watching him. The Gnome, who almost blew her cover, is covering her mouth as her cheeks rise a few shades of red. She is trying to not look at Vert out of sheer embarrassment but when she decides to look again, he is gone. Startled at this new outcome, the Gnome remembers her assignment, which was not to let this man out of her sight. She grows horrified as she has just now failed her task given to her by her Goddess.

She gets up and checks her surroundings once more before accepting defeat. She takes off the cloak and huffs really loudly. She knows that her Goddess will not be happy when she finds out the news but being the Goddess's most promising student, Mist Freehorn and she will get off will only a slap on the wrist. Mist starts whistling as she goes to leave the room and as she reaches the door, she jumps for the doorknob. What Mist didn't know that The Watcher was turned into The Watched as Vert had positioned himself onto one of the beams on the roof to see if anyone was truly watching him.

Vert knows that he just appears out of thin air all the time but that is due to his speed. This extremely short human looked like she took of something that made her invisible, maybe something like armour. He is very curious and wants to find out what she has created to cause her invisibility since it could be very useful in Vert's arsenal. She opens the door and closes it behind her. Vert drops down from the ceiling rafters above and goes to open the door but it won't open. He tugs again but once again, nothing happens. He just sighs and continues to look around the room for something to help him.

"Ohhhhh, interesting."
