Chapter 6. It's just the way that you use it!

The brown-eyed girl with long locks of the same colored hair asked about a toad. What caught my attention though was the name, "Neville".

I used my power to see the girl's true name and was surprised to see that she was Hermione Granger. Was this where harry would have first met the other three that would stand against Voldemort?

"No, I haven't seen a toad..." Was my response.

"Wait! Are you Benjamin Diggory?" Hermione Granger asked.

"I'm, yes I am... Why?"

"You're just the youngest wizard in modern history to attend Hogwarts. I read an article about you in the Daily Prophet," Hermione explained.

"Ugh, I read that article and they claimed I was 2 years younger than I am and a bunch of made-up powers I do not possess," I replied knowing I possessed other powers that they did not know about. Truth was that they had no basis for their claims and it was almost all false anyway.

"Then how old are you?" Ron interrupted.

"I just turned 9 in August," I answered.

Ron shook his head, "Blimey, I thought you were just small for your age! If Ginny knew about you she'd have never let up when mother said she was too young to go to Hogwarts. She's still a year older than you are."

Hermione suddenly taking notice of Ron's existence noticed his wand was held aloft in his hand, "oh, are you going to do magic?" She smiled.

"Let's see it then," she urged excitedly as she sat down across from him.

Ron was taken aback but cleared his throat before raising his wand aloft, "Ahem... Daisies, sunshine, butter mellow, Turn this stupid, fat rat yellow".

Hermione and I both winced knowing it wasn't a real spell and weren't surprised when nothing happened.

" Are you sure that's a real spell? Well... It's not very good is it?" She teased pridefully.

"Oi, his brothers are two of the worst pranksters in the wizarding community. He told me they gave it to him before he got on the train, let's cut him some slack," I said explaining Ron's situation.

"Why would his brother's do that?" She asked.

"You must be an only child. Sometimes brothers mess with each other: it's called sibling rivalry," I answered.

"Oh, well I managed to learn a few simple spells like fixing eyeglasses. I memorized all the first-year textbooks," Hermione went on expecting praise.

I looked at Ron who shrugged his shoulders meaning that he hadn't and didn't know anyone who had.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

"I know a spell of invisibility," I added hoping it would change the subject of Ron being ridiculed.

Hermione was agape and Ron was surprised too.

"You were just reading that book, have you learned it already?"

"Well, I'm certain but I haven't cast it yet..."

"I wanna see this!" Hermione said expectantly. Her eyes pleaded like a young kitten.

"Fine, just give me some space," I replied as I prepared my form to cast my spell.

Once ready I enunciated," Invisibilia Aorat!"

I turned invisible resulting in two audible simultaneous gasps.

"Y-You... You cast your spell without your wand!" Hermione mumbled between gasps.

I dispelled the invisibility charm," Ur, yes I did".

"How is that possible?"

"It's all magic, it's just the way that you use it. A wand draws power from around you while casting from your reserves is draining. It's not as good doing so but it does not require a wand," I told her.

"That's fascinating! I hadn't heard anything about that and I've read lots of books!" Hermione squealed.

"It's an old technique considered obsolete. So no one uses it anymore except me. I find it useful in certain circumstances where I may not have a wand," I lectured. I neglected to mention it was so old that it was basically forgotten by anyone alive. I doubted it could be found in any books anymore.

"Yeah, we've only had our wands a few months and I cannot imagine living without them now," Hermione sighed. Her expression when thinking about it looked like she was afraid.

"Are your parent's famous wizards expecting a lot from you?" I asked.

"No, they are none magical," The girl's eyes seemed slightly aggravated as she took in my every move. Clearly she wanted to know my intentions in asking her that.

" Yeah most wizard families know each other and already have certain ties. Take into account racism and that means it's hard coming from a non-wizard family. It's normal for groups of kids our age to pick on those different than the majority. The unusually young, the poor, and those not of proper breeding," I assured looking at Ron and Hermione as they came upon the subject. My solid point was we are all outcasts in some fashion. Hermione was what wizards call a "mudblood". Ron's from a super poor wizard family which is not the norm and I am way younger than normal. I was hoping to build a friendship through camaraderie.

" What's that supposed to mean?" Hermione demanded angrily.

"Just that no matter what house we go to we should stick together. We could be the best in our class and yet I cannot fight 12 wizards or witches by myself. Heck in a physical fight they all have the advantage on me," I expressed forcing my eyes to form barely perceptible tears. I was making it look like I was worried that I might be bullied based on my age and appearance.

"I'm sorry I just assumed you hated those who aren't purebloods. Don't worry I'll make sure no one bullies you," Hermione assured taking the role of a heroine in her mind.

"Me too I'll keep an eye out for you no matter what and come running when you are in trouble. No one hurts my friends without going through me first!" Ron added. Ron really is a true Gryffindor, I thought.

"So what house are you hoping to get into? I hear Gryffindor is the best but I think Ravenclaw would be good as well," Hermione debated mid question.

I responded,"Ravenclaw is my preference."

"I hope to go Gryffindor like all my brothers," Ron answered.

"So I will probably end up in the same house as one of you two..." She mumbled in thought.

"Don't fret about it, it's not like we can't be friends if we're in different houses."

"Right, regardless your going to have to teach me that no wand casting trick of yours," Hermione demanded.

"Sure, I was going to teach Ron the invisibility spell soon. Maybe we can form a study group?" I offered.

"Yes! I'd love that!" Hermione cheered.

Ron almost went purple at either the idea of being around her more or that he would be doing extra curricular studying.

Hermione excused herself to go make sure Neville had found his toad. At some point I would have to meet Neville and befriend him as well.

Before I could rejoice my success I heard," Get your robes on we're almost there!".

It was one of the trains staff preparing us for arrival.
