Chapter 5

I smirked with satisfaction, released the "Flight Spell," and landed on the ground. Then, taking confident strides, I approached the frozen Fire Phoenix in the large ice river.

Naturally, the Fire Phoenix had lost its flames, revealing its beautiful crimson feathers. I couldn't help but imagine making a bird feather robe for Livia. I wondered how she would look wearing it...

Hehehe, well, men have their fantasies.

Lost in my thoughts, I suddenly felt a sharp hit on the back of my head, followed by Linca's noisy voice, "Wulai, kid, hurry up and make the contract. What are you daydreaming for?"

Turning around, I saw Yulis and Linca, the two old guys—no, the two teachers, standing behind me, neatly dressed with wands in hand.

No wonder I didn't see them early in the morning; they had run over here.

I rubbed the newly formed bump on my head, moved my hand to the frozen Fire Phoenix's head, and chanted, "Ignite." Suddenly, my hand emitted intense heat, melting the ice in front of the phoenix's head.

Next, I bit my left index finger, drew a summoning symbol on my right palm, and placed my right hand on the phoenix's forehead. I intoned, "Oh, Contract God, unleash your divine power, let the contract take effect."

This was different from what Linca would do; he had to chant that long and forgettable incantation before taking any action.

I removed my palm, and the glowing symbol on the phoenix's forehead changed from red to golden after a moment.

It was done.

I rejoiced inwardly and cast a "Bursting Flame Wave" spell, shattering the ice around the phoenix.

The phoenix let out a long cry, shrinking from its original size of over ten meters to that of a parrot, landing obediently on my shoulder.

I happily declared, "From now on, you're my summoned beast. I'll call you... I'll call you Chirpy Bird."

With a thud, Yulis and Linca fell to the ground.

"You rascal, do you know the value of a Fire Phoenix? 'Chirpy Bird,' such a tacky name you came up with," Yulis scolded.

I proudly said, "Since I'm its master, I can call it whatever I want. Chirpy Bird, Chirpy Bird..."

Linca swung another fist at me, but this time I was prepared. I used "Instant Teleportation" and appeared a hundred meters away.

Unexpectedly, the phoenix, Chirpy Bird, shot straight towards Linca. It transformed into a giant red bird with flames erupting all over its body. The phoenix spoke with a crisp and pleasant voice, "Old mage, if you intend to harm my master, I won't be lenient."

I was astonished that Chirpy Bird could speak, staring in disbelief.

Yulis, seeing my expression, exclaimed, "The phoenix is an immortal bird, one of the most precious sacred beasts. Of course, it can talk. Only someone like you, who lacks even basic knowledge, wouldn't know its value."

Linca said, "Kid, recall it to your dimensional space. I have something to tell you."

Every summoner creates their own dimensional space, where summoned beasts rest when not in use and can be called upon when needed.

I sent Chirpy Bird into my dimensional space and listened attentively to Linca's "lecture."

Linca said, "You already know I'm the Great Sage of the Babunica Kingdom. Do you know why I came here?"

I shook my head in utter confusion.

Linca explained, "It's for this Fire Phoenix. Princess Orlina of the Babunica Kingdom has been cursed with the 'Soul Blood Curse,' a curse that sacrifices life for power, giving her only a hundred days to live. Any healing magic is ineffective against this curse, and only the blood of a dragon or phoenix can lift it."

Yulis added, "When Linca heard about the Fire Phoenix in this area, he sought my help. Phoenixes are the most powerful sacred beasts of the fire element. Surprisingly, you, this oddball, came across it."

He glared at me and continued, "What irritates me the most is that after over a month of hard work, we gained nothing. Instead, you, this fool who used 'Fireball' against the phoenix, benefited."

I sneered, "I understand now. You two are complaining that your disciple took away the fun of fighting with the Fire Phoenix. That's simple."

I quickly drew a hexagram in the air and shouted, "Chirpy Bird, come out and play with the teachers."

A red radiance flashed, and Chirpy Bird emerged from the "Hexagram Summoning Array," letting out a long cry and flying straight towards the two teachers.

The two teachers suddenly found themselves scrambling to deal with Chirpy Bird's attacks. They roared, "You brat, you'll pay for this."
