Throwing back the covers, Spencer sat up in bed - looking over his shoulder he shot a glance to his alarm clock - the bright red digital numbers vibrantly read 4:19 A.M. Spencer stood up, knowing he wouldn't be able to go to sleep tonight...just like every other night this week, Spencer suffers from insomnia, he wasn't able to stay asleep at all this entire week.
Groaning in frustration Spencer opened the door and headed to the kitchen, flipped the light switch...but no light turned on, he kept flipping it on and off hoping something would happen but of course, to no avail, the lights stayed dull.
Clenching his fists, Spencer wanted to smash something, nothing ever goes his way...something always has to be broken, last week it was the air conditioning now the power went out!
Spencer wasn't sleepy, he never felt sleepy - unlike most other people who suffer from insomnia he didn't even feel tired.
Spencer turned around and made his way to the living room before he could make it he fell to his knees and broke down, this wasn't how his life was supposed to end up...before he could finish his tantrum he took a deep breath, stood up and stepped outside into his backyard took another deep breath, and closed his eyes.
As Spencer started to calm down and made the decision to head back inside something fell from the sky...Spencer froze up and started to stare at the palm-sized fairy which appeared. The fairy's eyes met with Spencer, and he held the gaze, the fairy proceeded to state in a sweet voice, "Hey there! I'm a helper sent from the heavens to ensure a safe and quick progression."
Spencer immediately thought the lack of sleep was finally impacting his mental health...
As the fairy appeared a feeling of inner fullness overcame Spencer, he felt...good for once. The situation seemed to die down after a while of just staring, the fairy smiled and opened its mouth, "Let us get started, shall we?"
Spencer's posture stiffened and his eyes widened, "Wait. Wait, what? I must be seeing things, God am I going crazy!?"
The fairy stared at Spencer for a couple of seconds before opening its mouth again, "I'm afraid not, just listen for now. All this is real! Your lovely earth will start to change, there are infinite possibilities! And I'm here to make sure you survive and can take advantage of said possibilities."
"..."
The fairy gave Spencer a second making sure he wasn't going to ask anything.
"Given the chance, you can become infinitely strong"
Looking at the confused and fearful Spencer the fairy said without varying its smile, "Let me show you, I did come to hasten your advancement."
At that moment the fairy flew high up and closed its eyes, extended his slim hand and pointed at the sky a fair, golden beam permeated the heavens above. The fairy descended back down and said, "Now that is just a portion of the abilities you could gain from now on."
Spencer's jaw dropped; what just happened was impossible, now that he thought about it all this wasn't possible...what is this tiny, flying creature? What was that hocus-pocus?
"Allow me to clarify, as I asserted before starting today earth is no longer earth, demonic beings will start appearing aimlessly luckily for humanity my superiors have already distributed Traps of Conservation! The monsters will be stuck in these traps creating dungeon-like labyrinths. Although they could overflow or breakout...but that's EXTREMELY rare! Anyhow if you go ahead and mercifully terminate the monster's existence you will receive experience leading to level ups, leading to abilities...leading to skills! Hence your likelihood to become strong."
Spencer thought all this was just him being insane, but it's all too real. "So you're telling me...life has become a game?" Spencer inquired with a grin.

The smile the fairy had become wider and its mouth opened once again, "Why, yes...I guess you could say that. Before we get started every human has their very own helper explaining what I just explained-"
Spencer interjected with a mockery, "I'm sure they're doing a better job than yourself..."
"Funny.."
"Soon every human will go through a trial, you could say some form of a tutorial, I wish you luck Spencer Mavis; that is my job done."
Seriously, what the hell is going on..?
As Spencer was tensing up after hearing the words the fairy left him with. "...a tutorial, huh?"
Spencer decided to go inside his residency as it was still early morning...after plopping on the couch in his living room and staring at the void roof in the darkness until the sun rose, randomly a wall of text appeared in front of him he could see through it if he averted his eyed but it wouldn't disappear..."What the hell? What is this..." Spencer started feeling around the text but nothing happened, it was almost like a projection.
[HUMANITY SURVIVAL TUTORIAL BEGINS NOW]
Spencer blinked and as soon as he opened his eyes he was no longer in his house but in an open field, the only thing he could make out was the little box sitting right in front of him.
[WELCOME TO THE TUTORIAL, THERE SHOULD BE A CRATE NEAR THE VICINITY YOU WERE TRANSPORTED. INSIDE YOU WILL FIND A GIFT FROM THE HEAVENS TO AID YOU IN COMPLETING THE TUTORIAL]
"Ah, so this box is a gift..?"
Spencer walked towards the box and lifted it off the ground, there was a small latch on one of the sides. After lifting it the box disappeared and out came a dagger with its sheath and a spear. When picking up the dagger another wall of the green text read
[Steel Dagger]
[Rank - Common]
[Attack Power - 20]
[Durability - 100/100]
[A common steel dagger, mass-produced by an average blacksmith; It's strong and sharp enough to cut through 1st class monsters]
"Whoa, okay...I'm supposed to fight something, right? Let's check out the spear."
[Steel Spear]
[Rank - Uncommon]
[Attack Power - 45]
[Durability - 150/150]
[An uncommon steel spear, mass-produced by an above-average blacksmith; it's strong and sharp enough to cut through 1st class monsters easily]
Surprisingly the spear was fairly high quality, it was good looking and sharp. One would wonder why it looked so ornate if it was mass-produced and merely of the uncommon rank...
Spencer picked up the spear and put the dagger under his shirt (sheathed of course).
...
"Disgusting" Spencer was disgusted at the sight of insects the size of a human male. Spencer knew how to fight but he wasn't all that confident in his ability, in front of him there were three large mantises with scythe-like arms, they looked insanely sharp. Spencer lay prone on the sandy ground waiting for the perfect time to strike.
There they were standing 2 meters away from him, he jumped and stabbed the mantis to the far-right accurately straight in between its two red eyes

While focusing on the two monsters left the wall of text didn't get in the way, as Spencer willed it this text disappeared immediately. The spear was still stuck in the dead mantises carcass, and so Spencer grabbed his dagger unsheathed it ran behind the middle mantis leaned forward focusing all his strength he threw the dagger at the mantis, not killing it, but severely wounding it.
Having lost both his weapons Spencer was cornered; The injured mantis was still dazed, soon after the uninjured mantis jumped nearly 1.5 meters in the air focused on Spencer it raised it positioned its two scythe arms in an x shape and sliced downwards...
Spencer was barely able to dodge, the Green Mantises sharp arms connected with his left arm and left a laceration behind, not being used to feeling such pain Spencer yelped and retreated backward.
Slowly he made his way to the dead mantis, grabbed the spear impaled in it and pulled it out. Rapidly he twisted his upper body and shoved the spear into the hard carapace of the insect, killing it instantly.

[You have defeated Lv4 Green Mantis. All injuries have been healed]
Spencer could feel the pain and fatigue being lifted off his shoulders, leveling up seemed to heal all injuries and status effects.
The remaining mantis was critically injured and could barely take a swing at Spencer, easily he grabbed his spear out the carapace of the one he killed previously and with a swift movement decapitated it.

Spencer fell to the ground. How was he able to pull it off...he shouldn't have been able to do any of that was it adrenaline? Did the raising of stats affect battle prowess this much..?!
