Chapter 8
“You never told me where we are going? As I mentioned before, this doesn’t seem to be the way to the village.” Cordelia rolled her eyes. “We are going to meet someone. I don’t trust you entirely.” The reply came out cold.
Zeak appeared slightly hurt by what she said, but Cordelia didn’t care. For all she cared, he could never speak to her again. On second thought, she would prefer that. This mission was not a social for fun type of journey. They were looking for the mages that could be in some serious danger.
Even though Jaycen wasn’t the biggest fan of violence, he was an amazing fighter. Cordelia could remember when a few years back she took him with her to the forest during a cool summer night to look for some demons. It was the first time for Cordelia to go without Fernicus.
He was an outstanding teacher to Cordelia. He taught her about how to use her powers and how to control them. Despite being old, Fernicus still had a lot of energy to kick Cordelia’s butt, especially when it came to sword fighting.
Cordelia took Jaycen to a place where a lot of Striches like to hang around. However, they changed directions and went to the Krystal Lake, the place where the Water mozails like to live. Those creatures had a connection to the water element with a part of something else. They can be very protective and aggressive when agitated, and they love to play with the weather. When they were furious, they could create hurricanes and tornadoes that tormented the lands a few too many times.
No force, however, could destroy them permanently, or any of the other mozails. They were a part of the world and would outlive all of us while watching the world change for better or for worse.
On the night Jaycen and Cordelia went out, they noticed the mozails appeared to be extremely agitated. As they approached the creature, it suddenly turned towards them and shot a water blast out of its arms. Cordelia jumped to one side and Jaycen to the other. They looked at each other to make sure the other one was okay and then they moved towards the creature.
The mozail moved swiftly towards them and started moving the water from the lake. The lake water was lashing at both of them in constant strikes. They both kept dogging until Cordelia was close enough to slash the demon with her sword. The mozail screamed in hurt and started lashing the water whips uncontrollably. The water whip hit Jaycen, and he went flying backwards and hit a tree. He fell to the ground, unconscious.
‘’Jaycen!’’ She started screaming in his direction and then she ran to him. However, the mozail had more in store for her. It hissed towards her and launched a water ball. Cordelia dodged it, but was on the ground now. She was panting hard; she moved her wrist towards the lake and shot a water blast towards the mozail.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
The mozail looked at her, very confused for a second, as it had never met another creature that could control the water. Now instead of angry, it looked at her with its empty water filled eyes. It looked at me with curiosity and in awe.
“Cordelia!” she heard Fernicuse’s cries and turned to see him running towards them. The small mozail retreated into the depths of the water. The only thing visible was a small lump sticking out of the lake’s water.
The small creature was still watching Cordelia, fascinated. Even though their hunt didn’t prove very successful, Cordelia looked at that memory fondly. On a few more occasions, they went together for a hunt, and once Jaycen took his form, he seemed to be unstoppable against all that was in front of him.
This might have not been the best memory that showed the impressive skills that Jaycen possessed, but Cordelia still found this memory as one of her most cherished.
As Zeak and Cordelia made their way through the woods, with Kropka following right behind them. Zeak asked questions about Jaycen and did they really need him? “If you were to ask me. In my personal opinion, we don’t need some weirdo that lives in the woods to come along with us.” Cordelia cut him a stare and replied.
“I live in a forest and I am weird. We are taking Jaycen whether or not you like it. He knows how to fight and is very smart. In fact, he might know something about what is happening to you,” Zeak snorted. “I don’t think that some cavemen know anything about the thing that is invading my body from time to time.”
That was what pushed Cordelia over the edge. Her dagger was in her hand in an instance and within a few seconds she held it to Zeak’s throat, who now lay on the ground with Cordelia on top of him. “Don’t you ever! Disrespect him or any of my family ever again or I will slit your throat so fast you won’t even know what happened until it is too late to save your life.” She was very close to his face as she was saying it, digging the dagger deep enough to elect a few droplets of blood.
Zeak nodded gently and Cordelia was off him in an instance, dagger once again sheathed on her thigh and walking calmly as if nothing just happened. It took Zeak a few more seconds to get up from the ground and catch up with her
“I apologize. I didn’t mean to offend you. I want us to be friends. We are going to be on this adventure for who knows how long, and I believe it is important that we get close.” She looked at him again with daggers in her eyes. “All we can be are two creatures that share a common goal, so they have decided to unite their force. That is it. No friends and definitely nothing more.” She turned back around to the front and walked faster.
As they made their way through the woods, the two remained silent, and after another hour, they arrived at the caves that lined the bottom of the mountains. Here was their next task: find Jaycen and preferably come out of it with all their limbs intact.
These regions were not for the weak of hearts. A lot of predators liked to make their hideouts here and many of them loved fresh meat. Especially the one that walks right into their front doors.
