Chapter 1: Always Bet on Black

Chapter 1: Always Bet on Black

Today was the day Daniel quit. Not just his job but pretty much everything. Daniel had a good job many would even call it great the pay was above average but had a high potential for promotions up the corporate ladder. Daniel walked into the office wearing his untucked shirt and messy tie.

“Late again Daniel?” Sighed the manager. She looked professional with her formal attire making Daniels unkempt look stick out like a sore thumb.

“Let's have a word in my office.”

Daniel followed begrudgingly, he always did like Samantha despite being a hard worker she was usually quite laid back.

“You’re making this easy for me aren’t you?” Samantha accused, a disappointing look plastered to her face.

Daniel just stared at her with confusion for almost a full minute before he finally grasped the situation.

“But... I was the employee of the month, my numbers aren’t bad at all?” Daniel said not even believing his argument.

“We both know that was almost a year ago Daniel. You had so much potential what on earth happened?”

Daniel gave her a look of resignation and began to storm out the door cutting off Samantha before she could say anything. With a childish grin on his face, Daniel said the legendary line he always wanted to say.

“You can’t fire me, I QUIT!”

“Stay safe Daniel” Samantha whispered to herself as she watched him leave.

She always liked Daniel so seeing him like this pained her, once she even considered him a genius. Now all she saw was wasted potential. After letting out a sigh, she carried on with her day. Daniel left the office as fast as his legs could carry him attempting to avoid eye contact with his former colleges to save the embarrassment.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Daniel walked to the bus stop, his lack of fitness prominent as he found himself out of breath once arriving. Once he was seated Daniel started Listening to music at an unhealthy volume as he checked his savings account confirming that he had saved enough to put off the job searching for the time being.

Daniel arrived at his apartment, kicked off his shoes, and collapsed onto his sofa. He didn’t move for a few hours just contemplating his next moves. He had enough supplies in the house to stay for a few days without needing to get food. Grabbing his half-empty bottle of rum Daniel took a big swig. The most logical thing to do in Daniel's drunken mind was to take his savings of £30,000 and double it, then he would have £60,000 and wouldn’t need to look for a job for a long time. He could relax and try to find his true passions in life.

Daniel booted up his computer and navigated to an online casino where he would be playing roulette. Following his unwavering trust in the colour black. After depositing the majority of his savings, he placed £29,000 on Black where the attractive female announcer thanked him for placing his bet and spun the wheel. Within the second the wheel started spinning Daniel’s heart sank this was the dumbest thing he had ever done. He watched the ball in anticipation.

“Unlucky Gunslinger0, better luck next time,” Said the roulette girl.

Daniel watched as the ball landed on green, not red not black but fucking green. Daniel walked over to his sofa and collapsed. He cried for a few hours before falling asleep.

The next morning Daniel woke up with a painful headache before noticing his now empty bottle of rum. Daniel heard a loud ding coming from the inside of his head and a message plastered over his vision.
