Part 1.3 (Challenge extended until sunday)

There was a long back and forth between him and Lalius that day, but in the end Lalius had gotten the upper hand. Vivian didn't have many secrets, but those she kept were usually better to never be exposed to the public. The secret he told Lalius satisfied his need for an exchange so he agreed to let her look at his arms and leg, but that didn't mean he liked what Ben had told him. The air became awkward between the two as the day progressed. The boy seemed to talk even less if that was at all possible, but he didn't avoid conversation either so long as it wasn't about himself. Maybe because of that awkwardness or maybe because he felt it was fair; he started to talk about his struggle to keep jobs and random things about his life to fill the silence of that day.

Ben looked at his phone ‘Any more info I can get on that someone I'm supposed to take a look at?’ Vivian was fast to answer to his plea, he didn't even have to beg. ‘I don't have much other than him being a mimick.’ He texted back. She left him on read for a while before she sent a single thumbs up back. She had agreed to come by before he’d start work on Wednesday. There wasn't even much convincing to do, all he had written was that he needed her to look at someones’ wounds.

When she eventually turned up the next day, for some reason Lalius was the first to talk. “Hello Vivian, nice to meet you.” He smiled softly and looked deep into her eyes. She nodded a polite hello back towards the boy as she started unpacking her utensils on the Livingroom table. “What should I call you?” The boy looked up at Ben, who was still standing, in an urging manner. Like he had already forgotten the name he had agreed to be called again. “I'm calling him Lalius.” Ben eventually said. Vivian gave off a chuckle, but nodded without hesitation. She definitely knew why he had called him that. “Alright then Lalius I will be looking at your wounds to see if Benjamin fucked up the first aid too much and I will see what I can do to correct them, are you alright with that?” Lalius smiled, almost overly confident, it threw Ben off. His act had turned a complete 180 since Vivian had entered the apartment. “Do what needs to be done Vivian.” He said in a slightly higher pitched voice than before. Without wasting time Vivian immediately started undoing the makeshift cast the boy had worn for the past two days. As her face got closer to his arm and she started examining the arm while swiftly gliding her hand across it, the boys’ face scrunched up in visible discomfort. It didn't seem to come from some kind of pain or anything but each time her hand ran across his arm, Ben could see the small hairs stand up all over Lalius body like he was being electrocuted. Vivian didn't notice as she had become entirely focused on feeling along all the broken bones in the boys’ body. Even if Lalius had actually been in pain due to her touching, she probably wouldn't have changed the way she handled him, she had never wavered at someones screams Afterall. She nodded now and then as if she had confirmed something but then continued on. She worked incredibly fast, Ben acknowledged, she was a talented black-market doctor, even if she pretended, she wasn't. After not even fifteen minutes she had redone the casts, that looked far more professional than the ones Ben had done his best to put on the boy. Lalius gave her a big smile and thank you before sinking down onto the pillow Ben had brought out beforehand. When Vivian finished putting the utensils away, she demanded a coffee that Ben cooked for her without question.

“Your first aid must have improved quite a lot over the past few years for you to be able to set his bones back in place that well.” She said in a low voice after taking the first sip. She looked back at the boy sitting on the sofa a few meters away from them, who seemed unbothered and kept looking out the window.

At first Ben wanted to just nod along with what she said, but he clearly remembered how clumsily he had bound especially the leg. “His leg was still fucked when I wrapped up though.”

She shook her head. “You were probably just imagining it.”

“No.” He retorted determinedly. “I would have gone to a hospital with him hadn't he kept refusing so profusely. I didn't adjust anything correctly.”

Vivian stayed quiet for a moment as she kept looking at the boy who seemed to now ignore the two of them completely. “He’s really a mimick right?”

“Why would I lie to you about that?”

“You wouldn't.” She whispered now. "It's just so rare for a mimick to stay humanoid by their own will. I guess for him it makes sense though seeing how he's so sociable.”

Ben laughed awkwardly, but didn't correct her. She looked back at Ben and sighed. “How’d you even notice he is one to begin with, he's got a pretty good form. Even I wouldnt have realised.”

He pointed towards his eyes. ”They changed once after i took him in.”
