I am Ariana, a witch's great granddaughter.
In front of me is a summoning circle intended to summon a being that would bring disarray into the world.
I have no idea when it was made, but this is not the first time something my great grandmother had made was found by me when I was cleaning. And I am sure this won't be the last.
Taking a small break from cleaning, I, the clumsy afterling child of my mother, slipped and spilled Adam's ale all over the floor.
Ah~ It's almost like fate is trying to tell me something.
The water unusually spread and traced the lines along the circle.
After the circle was completely traced, it began to glow ominously.
"Oh no! Not again! What do I do?! This is just like the time I accidentally summoned a hero!"
Funnily, the circle from before-- it was supposed to summon a being named "Lucifer". But let's not talk about that right now.
After a while, the light disappeared. Replacing that light was a thick cloud of fog and the shadows of four beings.
As the fog cleared, I saw-- them.
Conquest - A conqueror, slayer of kings -- the bringer of pestilence. Some say he is the antichrist, some say he is Christ himself; a being only heard of in legends. On a beautiful white horse, he looms over me with an arrogant air. He looks straight at me before squinting, as if examining my appearance.
War - The taker of peace, bringer of destruction. Another being only heard of in legends. On his red horse, he kills most, slaughters the rest whether innocent or guilty. His long and broad two-handed sword is held upwards, as if he is readying to strike me down.
Plague - Interpreted as the "Lord as a Law-giver", the oppressor. Bringer of Famine. Some say this horseman stands by the God of Light as the messenger of His justice. I never thought that he would be a she. On a black horse, she looked at me with widened eyes and raised eyebrows, as if surprised-- and pleased to see me.
And then, I saw it. Unlike the other three, this one was not a he nor a she. Its eyesockets were hollow, but I knew very well we made eye contact the second chills ran down my spine. It was Thanatos, the bringer of doom. The reaper of souls -- Death. On a pale horse, Death moved its horse forward, out of the summoning circle and in front of me before bending down to meet my eyes. As it moved, I heard the chains around its body produce a clinking and clanking sound, as if they were heavy.
As it opened its skeletal mouth, my ears caught a long sound of exhaling, as if it had not spoken in ages.
"Poplolly bellibone. Art thee the one yond did summon me?"
I gulped audibly. For some strange reason, I felt like I heard someone gasp.
As I felt its cold, unfeeling gaze train on my eyes, I nodded slowly.
If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
For some strange reason, I felt as if it was satisfied.
It got up from its position before speaking again,
"Very well. Henceforth, this being shall s'rve as thy theow until the day thee disappeareth from this realm."
It got off from its horse. It was then that I realized it was an entire meter taller than me. Bending on one knee, it--
"Holy shit. So that's what Death sounds like!"
The man with the bow said in a charming voice.
Conquest got off his horse with a good-natured grin before moving to stand beside Death.
Death, without standing up, turned its head to look at Conquest.
Plague did not dismount but she urged her black horse forward and it stood next to Death, on the opposite side of Conquest.
She spoke in a clear, crisp voice, like a bell.
"Yeah. In the eternity we've spent together, you never spoke a word. Not even a grunt! Nevermind that. Our summoner is a girl! I win, Conquest!"
With a certain cheerfulness in her voice, she extended her arm above Death's head, as if asking Conquest to hand her something.
Conquest had a wry smile on his face as he handed Plague a small but heavy-looking pouch.
For some reason, I felt as if Death was a little angry.
It stood up in a hurry and moved forward once before it turned to face the two.
"Mine own w'rds art res'rv'd for mine own liege. Enough of this fadoodle, fonkins! Thee standeth before thy new lord! I've hadst enow playing nanny to thee lot-- *beep beep* oh, holdeth for a second, mine own tablet is updating."
In the middle of its angry rant, it stopped as it took out a strange, black object from its cloak.
It seems that whatever Death was looking at was enough to make it forget about me, Conquest and Plague as it interestedly stared at the strange black object.
Conquest laughed heartily before turning to speak to me,
"God. I didn't understand a single word he said! Still. I feel sorry for War. He's not very good with women, master."
Plague nodded while holding her chin, as if she was thinking deeply.
She turned to the final horseman.
"Come on, War. Don't be shy, come say hi!"
It was only then that I turned to look at the most violent of the horsemen.
Bringer of Calamity -- Lord of Destruction.
War.
He urged his horse to move.
His presence was crushing and I felt like he could kill me with a small movement of his fingers.
His eyes were sharp and even though I know he was just staring, I felt like he was glaring daggers at me.
The second our eyes met, I averted my gaze.
But I decided to be strong, at least to pretend to be, so I turned my eyes to War again, the second I averted my eyes.
...Why is he staring at the ground now?
He opened his mouth, eyes to my feet.
"H-H...H-H...!! *gulp* H-...Hel-...lo..."
...What?
Too dumbfounded to answer, I stared at the hooded horseman with wide eyes.
Death was too busy pressing on what it was holding, while Conquest scratched his head.
Plague had a wry smile on as she spoke,
"Well. It is as you can see. We, the horsemen of the apocalypse now serve you, lady-- er... milady, your name, please?"
She spoke invitingly, with a seductive voice of a succubus.
Even though I am a woman, I could clearly feel her lascivious aura.
I, responded in turn:
"...ut... ase... ve..."
I spoke in an almost inaudible voice.
"I beg your pardon, milady? What was that?"
Plague politely asked again.
"I said get out! Please leave my house right this moment!"
And it was then that my ridiculously normal life... didn't really change all that much.
