escape

"What in the-"

Without hesitation, I drove my knife into his skull, His body went limp almost instantly, slumping into my arms. I lowered him onto the floor, making sure not to make any noise.

I took a moment to assess the situation. His death wasn't the hard part, but I still needed time to get out of here without anyone raising an alarm. My eyes flicked over to the bed, and an idea formed. I dragged the Black Fox's body over and carefully placed it on the bed, arranging him as if he were simply sleeping off a late-night bender. His head tilted just slightly, and I even tucked the blanket around him for good measure. 'That should give me enough time to make a clean escape.'

I turned to leave but paused when my eyes caught the glint of something shiny on the floor—a small pile of golden coins. I picked up a small bag stuffed with coins, quickly weighing it in my hand. 'At least twenty, maybe more. great'

Tucking the bag into my cloak, I made my way toward the door. The building was still bustling with guards and lackeys, so sneaking out wasn't going to be a simple task. 'No need to kill them all if I can just slip through unnoticed.'

I cracked the door open, just enough to peek out into the hallway. It was quiet for now, but I could hear distant voices echoing from the other rooms.

I slipped out, moving as silently as possible, sticking close to the walls and keeping to the shadows. The dim lighting made it easier to blend in, and with the constant background chatter from the other rooms, no one seemed to notice my presence.

There was a faint sound of footsteps coming from the right, so I opted for the left, heading deeper into the building where I knew there was an open window I could use to exit.

I reached a narrow hallway that led to the back of the building, where I knew the window was located. But just as I was about to enter, I heard more footsteps—several this time, and they were getting closer. 'Damn it.'

I ducked into a nearby storage room, closing the door just enough to leave a crack so I could peek out. A group of guards passed by, talking amongst themselves, their boots clomping loudly on the wooden floor. I waited for them to pass before slipping back out, quietly making my way down the hallway.

As I neared the window, I saw two more guards standing by the exit.

One of them leaned against the wall, looking thoroughly bored, while the other was busy inspecting his weapon. They didn't seem particularly alert, but getting past them without drawing attention would be tricky.

I rummaged through my pockets, pulling out a small coin.

I flicked the coin down the hallway, away from the window. It hit the ground with a clink, rolling along the floor before disappearing around the corner. Both guards snapped to attention, their heads whipping in the direction of the noise.

"What was that?" one of them asked, already moving to investigate.

The other followed without hesitation, and as soon as they turned the corner, I made my move. I darted toward the window, quietly lifting it open and slipping out before they could return. The cool night air hit my face as I crouched on the windowsill, glancing back into the building. 'That was easier than I expected.'

I dropped down into the alleyway below, landing softly on the cobblestone street. But I wasn't out of danger yet. I could hear voices from inside the building, and I knew it wouldn't be long before someone checked on the Black Fox.

I pressed myself against the wall, moving along the side of the building, careful to stay out of sight. The alley was dark, but there were a few patrols walking the streets nearby, and I had no interest in running into them.

I reached the end of the alley and peeked around the corner. The streets were relatively quiet, but a pair of guards stood near the entrance to the building, chatting casually. I waited, watching their movements, looking for an opportunity to slip past.

Finally, one of them turned his back, laughing at something the other said. That was my moment. I moved swiftly, darting across the street and into another alley before they even noticed.

'Well...i wonder if that fancy shop still open' i cant help but look at the bag full with golden coins
