4. Service

The storm didn't let up as the creature perched itself on a nearby building. The storm carried away trash can and tore the leaves off of bushes and trees. People hurried back home, trying to escape the dangerous conditions. In one growl, the air and the raindrops were distorted as a wave rippled its way through. The creature's body rippled and ungulated as it slithered up a nearby pole, wrapping its lower body so tight the metal creaked.

The imps down below began hissing and aggressively clawing at anything around them. They were agitated, even though they were already seething with rage, the creature knew it. It took it and amplified it, and then redirected the hatred.

Any humans caught on the streets meet with an untimely and unfortunate fate. A family of three, just a few blocks away from their home when the imps sprang from the alley, cornering them, the first victim, a little blonde girl no older than seven, was pulled away from the mother's grasp, the mother screamed as the imps brutally carved their way into her stomach. They tore out her intestines first, fully knowing just how much pain it would cause the child. They paraded with the organ, dancing it out into the streets, while the mother and father could only yell and scream at them. Usually, they would have just done them all at once, but they had an audience that wanted to see a precise display. Making the parents feel despair was one way for them to earn the favor.

They tore out her least vital organs one by one; at this point, the little girl's brain couldn't handle the pain much longer or the heavy blood loss; she went comatose, her teary eyes shut, and that was it for her; she'd never wake up again. The parents were wrecks, crying, angered, resentment. They dropped to their knees as the imps held their arms tightly.

Seemingly, this pleased the creature. It could feel the dread, the total emotional breakdown of the parents, and it was satisfied. It gave the imps their wish, and they rejoiced. They began chewing on the intestines they pulled out, cutting off her skin, shoving as much as the imps could down their gullets, for they may never know when they'll be fed anything that wasn't each other.

The parents, however, didn't suffer the same fate as their child, they were given a chance, not a good one, as the imps were told to cut a specific artery on each of them, but if they wanted to take revenge for what they lost, they could.

On the mother, a blonde-haired woman within her thirties, they stabbed her inner thigh. Blood gushed out with no signs of stopping, the father cut both his wrists, and then they let go. The mother almost immediately collapsed after seeing her blood rush out like that. The father, however, had a fighting spirit. The father cursed the imps out in slurred speech; he walked about five to six steps before collapsing to the side facing his daughter. He stared at her face, her untouched face as tears rolled from his eyes. He reached out his hand against the pavement, the blood, and rain mixing underneath.

The creature rippled the air once more, another command. The imps tore at the back of the father, exposing his muscle and spine; they grabbed handfuls of flesh into their mouths and dined.

BING, BING, BING. The sound of a nearby bell interrupted the creature's viewing. It growled in the direction, a church house. The bell continued to sound off. The creature tried to send another wave, but each bang sent the ripple right back.

The creature flapped its wings and let go of the pole. The destination: the source of the interfering bell.

It flew between the clouds forcing the rain around it to stop in waves and then continue when it passed.

The creature approached the large building; the sides were painted a bright white with gold trims and black roofing. It crashed into the tower containing the bell, BANG BANG BANG, and the sound was much louder in there.

The bell was connected to a simple rope and pulley system, with one swift pull from its scythe-like arms, and the bell immediately fell silent except for the creature roaring out of victory.

"It's a pleasure to have you all come in today despite the sudden weather," laughed an old man.

The creature heard his vibration through the floorboards, and intently it listened in.

"Welcome, welcome!" He greeted. "We'll do this service as quickly as possible so that no one has to be out too late!"

Judging by his voice, he was directly underneath the creature. It snarled but continued to watch him. He greeted every single guest that came in for a few more minutes. His footsteps began changing from the center of the room. The creature followed from above.

There was a door closing sound, and the footsteps lessened; he must've come to a halt.

The man, bald in his late sixties, loosened his collar; sweat had begun collecting in between his skin and the fabric. The creature jumped once and then crashed down, breaking the flooring to the ceiling and sending itself to the room. The man turned around in horror, sighting the creature.

He tried to scream, but the creature picked itself up, head first, and faced him. The neck vibrated in a low growl as it hissed. The man shut his mouth, paralyzed. The air in the room was feeling as though it was shaking.

Minutes later, he emerged. Happier than a whistle, a pep in his step, not a single worry in the world. As he passed the staff of the building, he waved with a permanent smile. He busted through those double doors, greeting a room full of people and two statues of a woman with a white band covering her eyes, idols of their goddess, Hesestria.

"Everyone, I've couldn't have had a better experience…" Here started while walking to the podium. "Our lady Hesestria sent us a gift!"

The man turned around, facing opposite of the statues towards a pillar that divided the two. "She sent us her trusted messenger!" then the creature ascended from the depths, wrapping itself around the post.

Hushed voices erupted from the pews; some tried to get up and leave at the sight of a fleshy monster.

"Do not be afraid!" the man erupted. "It has come bearing the words of our lady!"

The crowd froze in their places, talking to each other.

The man cleared his throat, "She says: Our bodies are tainted with sin, we will not be allowed to live with her in the afterlife as we are now!"

The crowd continued to murmur with low voices, confusion still spreading. The man raised a hand to try and quiet the masses so he could continue. "We must discard our flesh in order to allow the purities to be introduced to us!"

The creature began vibrating the air once more, no doubt enacting its influence. The crowd stood up, cheering, tears in their faces; they sang words of praise to the creature.
