The first thing I noticed was an incessant buzzing.
An endless vibration, it was annoying at first but after a long time it grew on me.
I couldn't perceive anything besides that buzzing and a constant, jarring, vibration.
After a long time in the dark, I started to remember things.
Just a few scraps here and there, but pursuing them gave me something to do.
I liked to make things. I loved pie and ice cream. I have a favorite spoon. My name was.... well it started with a B. I think. Well, it was a work in progress I guess.
I spent most of my time listening to the jarring thumping, and the endless buzzing, wondering what the hell was going on.
After a while, I put together a few more memories. It seems my full name was Brian.... something, and I worked as a delivery driver. I delivered packages to people's doors, and I lived in Idaho. Also that thumping feeling felt an awful lot like I was running around. But I couldn't be running around, could I? I couldn't see anything. How could I run anywhere?
After a long while, I remembered how to do math. Counting Fibonacci numbers, calculating prime numbers, calculating out the digits of Pi, these all kept me occupied for a while.
I spent a great deal of time just feeling and counting the footsteps I was apparently making, and after a while, my senses resolved a bit as I noticed I would step around 51 times, then make a turn. I deduced I was pacing around the edge of a square room. Entirely too proud of this deduction, I suddenly had a way to keep track of time.

After 38 laps I remembered that my last name was Toner.
After 56 laps I remembered my cactus collection.
After 115 laps I remembered my favorite books.
After 334 laps, I remembered my own death.
I lost count of the laps.
I was stabbed in the gut by a tree branch after falling off the roof. I was patching a hole and my foot punched through. I lost my balance and fell off onto an old Hawthorn tree. The thorn in the name isn't there for show either. I got pretty torn up, spent about a week in the hospital, and I'm pretty sure I died of infection.
It's kind of sad realizing I was an idiot in my last life. I should have hired someone to fix the roof instead of trying to be cheap.
My existential crisis did not last long. I might remember dying, but I was still here. That counted for something, right?
Knowing I had died, though, that opened some strange doors in my mind. If this was Heaven it was pretty weird. I guess the soft buzzing could be interpreted as an angelic choir, maybe? It was definitely soothing.
If it was hell, the punishment seemed pretty light. I mean, I wasn't a bad person, but hell is supposed to be pretty bad. I felt like I could rule that one out.
Maybe I reincarnated or something? Into something that has no eyes and makes buzzing noises, endlessly walking around in circles? That's pretty horrifying, I guess. I can't really think of anything else, I guess I'll go with that unless something better comes up.
Oh, wait... I read some trashy novels about reincarnation a while back. Maybe I have some sort of cheat? Let's find out!
Let's see, what was it? Details? Inspect? Character Sheet? Status?
