Chapter 1. Cold Ride (Re-written)

Chapter 1. Cold Ride (Re-written)

The sun was shining during a cloudless morning sky. Its reddish light shining on the snow that had coated the land a night before. Spruce trees and wooden buildings all around were covered in a pristine white color. The cold winter breeze swayed the branches on the trees, that were pressured by the weight of the snow. Small animals were jumping in the snow and poking tunnels into smooth surface of snow. Birds were chirping and eating bird feed from wooden bowls that hung on lower parts of the trees.

Not all were awake and going about. There were those who still slept under their sheets. Inside an old, yellow painted wooden house were two humans.

One of them was named Oscar. The cold temperature of the room just screamed to stay inside, within the warmth of his bed. The room itself had nothing special to behold.  It just contained a large bed next to the wall, with a chest next to it as a nightstand. The opposite wall had a desk with a bookcase on top of it, holding highschool-related and fantasy books. The floor had a blue carpet with flower decorations.

Suddenly, an extremely annoying sound sounded from the nightstand. The phone was buzzing and playing a song. A song he had learned to hate hearing in the morning. He was hesitant, hoping that the phone will stop by itself. He tried to ignore it, but finally gave up. He sat up against the wall, scuffed his thick blond hair, and leaned to finally pick up the phone.

“Argh…… Why can’t you just let me sleep!?” Complained  Oscar. With sleepy eyes he looked who was calling.

*Caller: Evelyn , Accept? *

Wondering what in the name of God this girl wants, he answered.

“ Morning…” immediately a happy laughing voice resorted “Good morning Oscaaar!”

Annoyed by sheer positivity of her voice, he just resorted “ What do you want Evelyn, it's New year today and I gott-”  “That exactly why I called you silly, Would you want to Spend new year with Me , Alice and Samuel? We could pick you up with Samuels car you know?”

For moments Oscar were silent. His plan was to spend new year alone with his mother and her boyfriend.. surely nothing exciting would happen here. “ Umm.. Sure i guess.. I could. Just wait a moment and i’ll tell to my mother ?” Said Oscar as he started to put his bathrobe on. “Sure thing! “ Evelyn was quite happy as Oscar somewhat agreed, he never went anywhere. It also would be good old friends to meet as they went all to different schools.

“humm...” Oscar’s mother hummed as she drank coffee while reading her Newspaper. Then  she looked in the direction of stairs where she heard footsteps. “Mum?” Sounded the sleepy boys voice as it went around empty house..  “Evelyn called me and asked me to go spend the new year with them” She put down her coffee mug and smiled to him. “It’s nice to you to have someplace to go for change… you’re always just home” At the same time she rose to stand up and hugged him. “Just remember not to drink too much. Six cans is good. Six is good” Oscar had a small silent laugh “She always says that”  He thought. “Yeah yeah, you said that so many times already. and yes, I won’t drink hard drinks.”

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

His mother let go of the hug. “Go on then, go back your things” She said with a smile

She was happy for his son. As her last child still living with her, she wants him to be happy.

She watched as her son went up the stairs to his room. There were small pain in her heart. Soon her little boy will be all grown up and will leave like her other children.

Wind blown snow cycled around Oscar as he stood waiting his ride. Snow was falling heavily from the sky and he could hardly see anything. Wearing Jeans and a puffy winter jacket he tried to keep his hands warm in the coldness. He was constantly aware, trying to hear sound of a car. He nervously glanced at the text message he got from Evelyn. “We will be right there soon” it said. Twenty minutes ago that is. He started to worry, as always, that they got lost or had a accident.

As he had nothing to do, He started to think about the past. Alice, Samuel and Evelyn. His three best friends at Middle-grade. Alice was kinda tough “guy” of the group. Having her opinion always about something and always ready to stand behind it. Samuel liked reading books, he did not talk all that much, but when he did, he talked negative side of things. He was like “reality check” for all of us. Lastly Evelyn, maybe his best friend. She were someone that you could tell your worries. Everyone had gone to different schools and gotten new friends. It will be nice to meet them again and talk about stuff.

Deep in though, he didn't notice the approaching car.

“TWOOT”

“whattheshit!”

He had gotten completely surprised. For a second he had his life going before his eyes.

“you're going to freeze…” It was Samuel who said this while looking with indifferent eyes  from open window. Alice was sitting in the front seat and were laughing at Oscar.

“You should have seen your face Oscar, haha!” Shouted Alice from the backside of the car as she opened the backseat door.

Oscar looked at the yellow house behind him. He saw his mother standing at the window and waving goodbye to him. Smile on his lips he waved back as he boarded the car.

After he closed the door, the car started moving forward in snowy road.

“Soo... “ Oscar started slowly as he put on the seat belt, even though no one else in the car had done so.

“Where are we going actually ? You didn't tell me on the phone.”

Alice were  playing with her phone as she mumbled “Evelyn’s cottage, if we find there in this weather...we hardly came here at all because Sam got us lost”

“ I can’t see anything in this awful weather. What do you expect...” Retorted Samuel in the front as he was driving. They were just about drive on the highway, from the forest.

“Don’t worry guys!  We’ll get there !”  Cheered Evelyn as they enter the highway.

Then the Truck drove into their side, effectively T boning it. The truck lost its track and pushed the car against a wooden street lamp, that were on the side of the highway.

In the local news it was told that three of the four youths on board died on impact because the did not wear seat belts. Fourth died to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
