CHEN YU'S POV
I woke up to the soft hum of energy resonating around me. My body felt like it had been through a meat grinder, and my head was pounding as if I'd been on a bender and was now paying for it with the mother of all hangovers. The worst part was the cold, clammy sweat that covered me from head to toe. Great, just great.
Opening my eyes, I realized I wasn't in my cave or even in the forest anymore. I was lying on a simple cot, surrounded by walls of polished stone that seemed to glow with a faint, calming light. The air smelled of herbs, some pungent, others sweet, mixing into a scent that was both strange and comforting.
"Ah, you're awake," came a soft voice. I turned my head slowly, trying to focus my blurry vision on the source. Standing at the foot of the cot was a woman dressed in light blue robes, her expression serene but professional. Her presence was like a soothing balm to my rattled nerves.
"Where am I?" I croaked, my throat dry as sandpaper. The words felt like they were being dragged out of me.
"You're in the healing quarters of the Azure Sky Sect," she replied, her voice gentle yet firm. "You've suffered from severe Qi exhaustion. It's a good thing Li Mei brought you here when she did, or the consequences could have been far worse."
"Qi exhaustion, huh?" I muttered, forcing myself to sit up despite the protests of my aching body. "So that's a thing. Guess I really overdid it back there. My bad." I tried to chuckle, but it came out more like a wheeze.
She nodded, a slight smile touching her lips. "Indeed, it is a common mistake among new cultivators. Pushing oneself too hard without understanding the limits of one's own Qi can lead to severe consequences. You must be careful, Chen Yu. Cultivation is a journey, not a race."
I snorted. "Sounds like something out of a fortune cookie. But I get it. I'll be more careful next time, I promise." I stretched my arms, feeling the stiffness in my muscles start to ease. At least I wasn't dead, so that was something.
As I looked around the room, I noticed several other beds lined up against the walls, most of them empty except for a few injured disciples who were being tended to by other healers. The atmosphere was calm, almost serene, a stark contrast to the chaos I had just been through.
"Rest for now," the healer advised, turning to leave. "Your body needs time to recover fully. You'll be able to leave once your Qi has stabilized."
I nodded, leaning back against the pillow. My body felt heavy, and my mind was a swirling mess of thoughts and emotions. The fight with Huan Fei, Elder Mei Ling's arrival, and the look of concern on Li Mei's face—it was all jumbled together like some sort of weird dream.
As I lay there, I couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all. Here I was, a modern guy from Earth, stuck in a world where people could literally punch mountains into dust and fly on swords like it was no big deal. And yet, I'd managed to get myself tangled up in sect politics and near-death experiences within what? A week? Two? My sense of time was still all messed up.
"Welcome to the cultivation world, Chen Yu," I muttered to myself, grinning despite the pain. "Where every day is a new episode of 'Will I Die Today?'"

Just then, the door to the healing quarters creaked open, and in walked Li Mei. She looked around briefly before spotting me, her expression brightening with relief. "You're awake!" she exclaimed, rushing over to my bedside. "I was worried…"
I gave her a lopsided grin. "You and me both, Senior Sister. I thought I was done for back there."
Li Mei's face softened, and she sighed, shaking her head. "You really need to be more careful, Junior Brother. The sect's rules are strict for a reason. We all have to abide by them to maintain harmony and order."
"Yeah, about that…" I hesitated, my grin fading. "What's going to happen with Huan Fei? I mean, I don't really want any trouble, but I also don't want to be anyone's punching bag."
Li Mei's expression darkened slightly, and she glanced away. "Huan Fei… He let his emotions get the better of him. Elder Mei Ling will decide his punishment, but it's likely he will be disciplined severely. Attacking a fellow disciple in such a manner is unacceptable, regardless of the reason."
I nodded, absorbing her words. "I guess that makes sense. But still, it's not like I wanted any of this to happen. I just wanted to find my place in this world, you know?"
Li Mei's gaze softened again, and she placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "I know, Chen Yu. And you will. Just take things one step at a time. You've already shown great potential, but you need to learn to harness it properly."
"Great potential, huh?" I muttered, scratching my head. "Seems like I'm more of a walking disaster than anything else."
She chuckled, and for a moment, the tension seemed to lift. "Well, even disasters can be useful if they learn to control themselves. And I believe you have what it takes."
I smiled back, feeling a warmth spread through my chest that had nothing to do with my Qi. "Thanks, Senior Sister. I'll do my best."
As Li Mei began to explain more about the sect and its rules, my mind drifted to the system that had brought me here—the Heavenly Dice System. It had already changed my life in ways I couldn't have imagined. But now, with everything I'd learned and the dangers I'd faced, I couldn't help but wonder: What other abilities would it grant me? And would I be able to control them without burning myself out again?
The system's chime sounded again in my mind, though not the one I'd hoped for about rolling the dice.
[System Notification: User's Qi levels have stabilized to 80% due to the accelerated recovery provided by the Heavenly Body Technique. Full recovery estimated in 1 hour. Next dice roll available in 20 days.]
"Eighty percent already?" I thought, feeling a spark of surprise and relief. The Heavenly Body Technique was doing its job, accelerating my recovery beyond normal limits. "Guess this thing isn't just for show. A real lifesaver."
Li Mei caught the distant look in my eyes and frowned slightly. "What is it? You seem distracted."
I blinked, snapping back to the present. "Oh, nothing. Just… thinking about what comes next."
She nodded, understanding clear in her eyes. "You have a lot to learn, Junior Brother. And a long road ahead. But you're not alone in this. The sect is here to guide you, and so am I."
I smiled again, genuinely this time. "Thanks, Li Mei. I appreciate that."
She smiled back, and for a moment, there was a comfortable silence between us. Then she cleared her throat, her expression becoming serious once more. "Elder Mei Ling wanted to speak with you once you're recovered. She has something important to discuss with you."
"Elder Mei Ling, huh?" I mused. "Guess I'd better not keep her waiting too long."
Li Mei nodded. "Indeed. Rest up for now. I'll let her know you're awake. She'll decide when she wants to see you."
With that, she gave me one last reassuring smile and left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I leaned back against the pillow, staring up at the ceiling. The road ahead was uncertain, filled with dangers and challenges I couldn't even begin to imagine. But I was ready. I had to be. This was my life now, and I was determined to make the most of it. No more near-death experiences, no more reckless gambles with my Qi. I'd play it smart, stay one step ahead, and maybe, just maybe, I'd find my place in this crazy world.
And if that meant using every xianxia cliché in the book to survive, then so be it. After all, if you can't beat them, join them.
