Chapter 366

CHAPTER 366

Lucas kept his burning fist tightly clenched.

The Hart Family had strict house rules and had never allowed their children to mess around outside. Despite attending numerous receptions, banquets, and parties on his brother's behalf, he had never simply touched a woman.

What's happening now is really… I didn't do it intentionally, though! I swear!

Leigh did not realize she was being taken advantage of. After a few minutes of him not responding, she waved her hands in front of his eyes and said, "Hello? Why are you ignoring me?"

He took a deep breath in order to calm himself down. "Honestly, I feel that the Penhams aren't worth getting upset about. They have no conscience at all to abandon you after only a few days! You've no feelings for them, anyway, so why are you sad?"

"Who said I'm sad because of the Penhams?" Leigh looked at him, puzzled. "I'm sad over my parents!"

"You parents? You mean your adoptive parents?" Lucas was surprised.

"They aren't my adoptive parents; they are my parents!" she insisted. "I only have them, who passed away a long time ago, as my parents. Bryson Penham and Penny are not related to me at all!"

Lucas was speechless upon hearing that.

Leigh was complaining earlier that being parentless was better because she wouldn't have someone abandoning her in the past only to come back for her now and lecture her to listen to them because she

was their child.

Wasn't it obvious that she meant Bryson and Penny?

Forget it, he thought.

He didn't want to take a drunk's words seriously.

He would simply accept whatever she said.

Hence, he pacified her. "You're right. You only have one set of parents, but they passed away a long time ago. Why are you sad now?"

"Can't I be sad just because they're no longer alive? You're such an oddball!" Leigh looked at Lucas as if he were being unreasonable, and continued, "I still feel sad whenever I think of them, no matter how long they have been gone! I really wanted them to live a long time and be by my side for the rest of my life..."

Lucas rolled his eyes at that.

He really regretted being here at this point.

How nice would it be if he went straight back to his room earlier?

"But I wasn't unhappy tonight because they died young…" Leigh mumbled as she lay on the stone table, her gaze fixed on a random spot in front of her. "It was because… I can't help but wonder if I'm

actually a jinx. My parents, Grandpa, and master all died because of me, even the baby in my mother's womb..."

"Jinx? That's nonsense!" Lucas had not expected Leigh to stay up this late and drink so much because of this. "You appear to be intelligent, but why are you a moron in this situation? Walter had said clearly that he made that up for the doctor to deceive your mother! He has no ability at all to tell anyone's fortune!"

"I know. I know those are nonsense…" Leigh then mumbled, "I won't believe a word if this happened to someone else, but now that it's happening to me..."

She was well aware that it was merely a bluff, but she couldn't help but think that if her parents hadn't adopted her, they might not have died.

"I understand now." Lucas continued, "Your parents mean so much to you that you can't accept their death. As a result, your imagination began to run wild. However, you must understand that the so- called jinx is just a ruse by Walter to deceive Penny. It has nothing to do with you. Now, nobody will believe in this, and you shouldn't either."

"I didn't!" she exclaimed quickly. "Logically, I don't believe that, but emotionally..."

Fine. Forget it. Nothing I say will help.

Truth was, Lucas understood how Leigh felt.

It was exactly the same as when his father went for a mission with his comrade, where his father's comrade sacrificed but his father survived. Though it was not his father's fault, he was always sad

when he thought of it and felt he was to blame for not bringing his comrade back. NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.

All of these were confusing debts that were impossible to be cleared.

"What about your parents?" Her head was tilted as she rested on her arm and looked at him. "Oh right, you're the Harts' adopted child. Do you have any idea who your biological parents are?"

Lucas was stumped for words when he heard that. Isn't it a bit too much for her to only remember that I am the Harts' adopted son after we'd been talking for so long?

"Do you know who I am?" he asked doubtfully.

He would be speechless if she didn't recognize him despite having spent the entire night chatting with him.

Hearing that, Leigh scoffed with disdain. "Are you silly? Didn't I just say that you're the Harts' adopted son?"

When Lucas heard that, he was speechless. How can a drunk not be embarrassed to call me silly?

"I'm talking about my name! What's my name?" he asked.

To that, Leigh replied, "Lucas Hart."

"It's good that you know." He gave a nod.

"What exactly are you saying?" Leigh persisted in her inquiry. "You have yet to respond to my question!

Do you know who your biological parents are?"

Lucas remained silent. After a while, he responded, "I had no idea in the past, but I now know who they are."

"Did your brother find them for you?" she asked.

"Yes." He nodded again.

"Your brother is a truly remarkable man. He is the most powerful man I've ever met, and his information team is second to none. My parentage was found out by him as well. He first found Walter, who told him that he had abandoned the Penhams' child on my parents' doorstep. As my parents didn't have any children after being married for years, Walter printed a paper that said that I was an illegitimate child who no one wanted and put it in my swaddling clothes, asking my parents to adopt me. He was even afraid of them reporting to the police that he stuffed some money together with the paper… Do you know what he said to me?"

"What?" Lucas asked patronizingly.

"He said I should be grateful to him for finding me such a good family." Leigh paused for a moment before continuing, "He also said that he was a good person and that everything he did was just to exact revenge on Penny. Penny previously said that he was the only person she loved and that she wanted to elope with him, but she later married Bryson… Hence, when his second wife refused to care for his first wife's child and he couldn't bear to anger his second wife, he devised his so-called formidable plan, which could punish Penny for betraying him while also allowing his daughter to grow up in a wealthy family…"

"Well, he's indeed a clever man," she said. "But he has no conscience at all!"

She smirked in response. "He didn't think that way! He claimed he was kind enough to find me a good family and had even left money for my parents to take care of me. According to him, if he were a villain, he would have killed me at that time and would not have made the effort to find a good family for me."
