Chapter 2 – Mean Green
A apartment complex near the Center of Gaia's Promise - 4:11 am, Date 122, 516 P.A.
"Breaching team in position" Officer Clair Green says into her in-ear Enforcer uplink.
"Overwatch in position unable to see suspect through windows." She Quietly presses her riot shield against the door.
"Understood wait on evacuation confirmation, suspect is armed, erratic, and confirmed capable combatant, lethal force is advised" the robotic voice of TC3 commands as She tightens her grip on her spear.
"Evacuation is complete." the two Enforcers behind Her ready their ready their automatic rifles.
"Understood, prepare to breach on three counts" Clairs eyes begin to glow
"Three" She takes a deep breath
"Two" Her body begins to crackle with psychic static
"One" The space between Her shield and the door glows a brilliant blue
"BREACH" The door disintegrates and an indescribably bright light fills the room as the three Enforcers rush in.
The room is filthy, the back walls made of blacked glass behind a couch were a completely grey fractal sits covering his eyes and reaching for a blood stained machete.
"Surrender immediately Demon, you have no chance!" Green yells from behind her massive shield.
The Fractal blinded by the light grab's its machete and jumps backwards out the window onto a building below.
"Suspect is fleeing, Overwatch do you have visual?" Green asks into her uplink running towards the window.
"No, target is below line of sight, repositioning."
"Understood, Beginning pursuit, you two get the ground floor." Green commands as she jumps out the window to the building below.
after falling 2 stories, she lands on her feet , the buildings metallic roof denting under the weight of her landing.
"Surrender or DIE." She yells at the now physically unstable Fractal limping towards the edge of the building artificial light covering the two. it turns to face her.
"You will never make me like them" it yells back brandishing its machete
"You've killed alot of innocents, Demon. but you don’t have to die here." Green says raising her shield and brandishing her spear.
"they wherent innocent, they where changed." it reply’s staring at green standing still.
"What do you mean changed?" Green asks keeping her distance
"your not one of them..." it says lowering its weapon
"One of what? What are you on about?" she says slowly approaching the Fractal.
"One by one, everyone i know chang-"
before it can finish a loud crack fills the air as the head of the Fractal is evaporated and its body destabilizes turning to dust in seconds
"Overwatch in position, suspect terminated" the stunned officer hears in her ear dropping her weapon in shock.
"HE WAS SURRENDERING, YOU DID NOT HAVE AUTHORIZATION TO KILL HIM." Green screams into her uplink falling to her knees.
"Overwatch's initiative was withing operational parameters, mission accomplished, all Enforcers return to station for debriefing" the inhuman voice of the TC3 rings in Her ear as she collects herself and silently returns to her team.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
a few hours later they arrive at the station, after a quick debriefing green makes her way to her to her captains office.
"Come in" the voice of Captain Jacob Finch comes from behind his door before she has a chance to knock.
The captain is rather old looking for a human with white hair and a waxed mustache on his lightly wrinkled skin, supposedly being alive before the awakening he took up position of Enforcer Captain after the previous captain was killed in the Red Wake Uprising.
"Sit down." Finch orders as Green enters the room, she sits on a surprisingly comfy folding chair infront of Finches desk.
"I want to make an official complaint against officer Stelta. he acted with a complete disregard for life and without orders to shoot." Officer Green says promptly looking Finch directly in the eyes.
"Officer Green, Extreme force authorization gives him the right to take that shot if he believes its necessary." finch replys lighting a cigarette "While I understand you believed you could talk the suspect down but he had already killed two officers."
"But Si-"
"AND YOUR outburst on scene was extremely unprofessional." Finch says his voice before calming and continuing "you are an invaluable member of the enforcers Green however I believe your time in Our Promise has made you soft.
"Sir I-"
"DO NOT Interrupt" he yells before once again regaining his composure "My superiors and I believe some time out in the Soul will be good for you, and effective immediately you are being transferred to Heron Shore, any questions?"
"Sir you cant be serious, I've served this city and its people since Terra Corp ran the show.” She speaks standing up from her chair.
"Yes which is why sometime out of the city will do you well, you are to leave here and head immediately to the west wall vehicle bay and collect your personal Dune-Naught, then make your way to Herons where your personal belongings will be waiting for you in your new accommodations, I do not want any argument green i wouldn't be doing this if i had a choice." Finch finishes before taking a long drag of his cigarette.
"U-understood sir" Green says defeated "can i at-least request a Bike instead of a Do Not?"
"Sorry but you will have to make that request in Herons." Finch stands up and puts his hand out too green "Thank you for your years of service green, I hope you do your best for the people out there."
Officer Clair Green reluctantly Accepts his handshake "I will sir." she says before walking to the door
"Oh one more thing" Finch says throwing her a roll of LCDs (Laputain Cryptographic Denomination) "consider this a bonus for all the work you put in, count them when you get the chance, it should cover any expense you have on your way to Herons."
"Thank you sir" Green says pocketing the bills and leaving the office.
Her spirit crushed she changes into jeans and a tee shirt and leaves the station without a word too her once comrades, her spear on her back feeling like a heavy anchor.
Clair Green always did her best to not let her emotions get in the way of things, after fighting against the Red Wake she has the ashes and blood of many on her hands, promising herself after to become a bulwark of justice to atone for the oppression she upheld.
She makes her way to a public transport station bustling with people, she proceeds to take a bill of the roll finch gave her and reveals a note underneath.
it reads "check the glovebox when you get out of the city" and nothing more.
Green crumples the note into her pocket and gets on the busy transport, the ride is rather boring but the view is something to behold, as the transport leaves the inner city walls it moves just above the industrial district, Green sees sprawling as far as the eye can see protected by the massive outer walls are factorys, warehouses and all the automated infrastructure that operates them, out her window she sees one of the three Giant artillery pieces that protects over the entirety of Crimson Soul.
By the time she reaches the outer wall its already a little past 8:00 AM. the Transport eventually stops at a regal station deep inside the wall, after getting breakfast at one of the many restaurants in the station and she makes her way down to Western Vehicle bay and finds her Dune-Naught waiting for her
Suspension the vehicle many would joke, the Dune-Naught seats two tho good luck finding a passenger as riding in one is equivalent to sitting on a washing machine after throwing a brick into it, loud, bumpy and probably dangerous. because of this the vehicle has been given the lovey nickname Do-not as in do not drive one of these.
after another little while of waiting her and her vehicle are dispensed outside the wall and she drives onto the crimson sand. A few miles into the drive she remembers the note, she parks and checks glove box, inside is the normal fair for a enforcer glove-box, A Compact Revolver, Some Ammo, Various Tickets and paperwork, binoculars and a Short range communicator. but tucked away in the back is a wax sealed letter.
She opens it and it reads
"Dear Officer Clair Green.
I pray you find this, and apologize if your transfer came as a surprise, but I needed a cover for what im about to ask of you. recently many people have been going missing, some around the department have been acting strange, records have been tampered with and reports from many sectors and mines have been unchanged for months. I need you to ignore your orders and head to Sigma Dig, there check the hard print records for the Magnetic transport register, then report back to me on a secure line at Heron’s Shore channel code is 357, in-case your run into trouble I had your shield put in the back of the vehicle as i know you prefer to fight with one, do not seek or expect help from fellow enforcers, I recommend you deputize some butchers if you need aid, the money I hope I remembered to give you should cover it, If not promise them they will be paid via the government account.
Godspeed, Jacob Finch."
