Chapter 5. Siblings

"Come on cuckold, is that really the best you have?" Thor spat as he wiped the sweat off his face. He smirked, looking across the auditorium which was now marked out for sparring matches. "Oh, you finally have a new nickname, I thought all those drugs left you too brain-damaged to come up with anything original again." Horus retorted as he sprang to his feet. "Let's go another round and see who's the brain-damaged one, bird boy." The brown-haired god said as he readied himself.

The referee confirmed that they were both ready before blowing his whistle. Elena looked on as she just finished her match, hearing the faint sounds of thunder cracking every time Thor swung his fist however they rarely connected due to the swift reflects of the Sky god. Apollo threw a towel for her, "For someone that looks so fragile you can sure hold your own against a god, even if it is a third-rate god." He laughed as he approached his punishment.

"For someone who's hanging around a human, you sure do exalt yourself." Elena rolled her eyes as she ruffled through her bag. "We both know the only reason I'm here is as punishment." He scoffed. Continuing with her search she replied, "We both know the one getting punished here is me, they're just trying to get rid of your sister complex." Apollo turned to her with a sour look on his face, "Why do you always go for the sister jokes? They're getting really boring at this point." Elena pulled a bottle of water out of her bag, "The look on your face says otherwise."

"Seems like you're enjoying your punishment. God Of Light." Thor mocked as he approached, followed closely by Horus. "Oh, I thought you forgot about me. Seeing that we didn't talk in ages." Apollo smiled as he got up. He embraced Thor and then Horus. "Of course, we didn't. School has just been busy, so we don't have much time to hang out." Thor explained. Horus added, "Speaking of hanging out, we're having a party this evening. You want in?" Apollo smiled, "I would love to, but I have to stick with the human." Thor scoffed as he ruffed Elena's hair as if she were a puppy, "I rarely allow pets into my house but this one is rather cute. Hear what, keep her on a leash and I'll let her in." Before she could rebut, they walked away, "See you at 8!" Horus waved.

"Do as you please, but I'm not going anywhere with those idiots." Elena rolled her eyes as she walked away. Apollo chased after her and caught up as she left the gym. He grabbed her by her hand, "Come on, you know I need to stick with you." Elena looked down at her hand in disgust and he pulled away immediately. "What I'm trying to say is that it would work out well for both of us." He tried to bargain as he scratched his face. "Oh, what's in it for me?" She asked sarcastically.

"You get to go to a party held by the most powerful god in our year. If you gain his favor and are included in the princes, you'll rule our year." Elena raised an eyebrow, "The Princes?" Apollo shook his head as he explained, "The most known and respected gods, Thor, Horus, Anubis, and Athena. Though since she helped Ragnor, I assume they want nothing to do with her anymore."

"Oh, so why would they want me? I'm a human, just like him. What's more, why would they want you? You're in the same boat as Athena." Before Apollo could reply she started to talk again, "Listen to me, I'm not going and if you have the slightest bit of common sense, you won't go either. Clearly, there's something sketchy there and you're too much of an idiot to realize it without your big sister here to correct your every move" She said and stormed off before he could make his case. Apollo clenched his fist and cursed to himself before continuing after her.

Loki and White were in the House of the Golden Hall's meeting room. This was where White spent most of his free time, relishing in the peace and quiet it provided. However today was different, Loki came to inform him of Ragnor's deal with Ra and what it meant. Loki turned away and began to walk toward the door, "He just made his next move and how many more do you think he'll have to make before he comes after you?" The God of Mischief grinned. White clutched down on his chair handle, "Greek god, you're making a big mistake siding with him." As Loki opened the door he turned slightly, "If that faint sound of fear wasn't in your voice, I would be more inclined to listen to you. Though that just confirmed that I chose the right side."

The handle of White's throne began to crack under the pressure of his grip, "My king." Hermes said in a worried voice. "I know, I can't let the words of a fool bother me." White stood up, "Though, how would it look if I crush a newborn human. Who's the most promising first year in our house?" He asked the vice-captain. "Athena, the goddess of." White interrupted him. "I know what she's the goddess of and that's why I know he'll go after her. Give her incentive to stay with us and what's more, give her reason to want to crush him."

Loki walked down the corridor and from the other end approached Artemis, "Hello my dear, I haven't seen you since." She stopped him. "Please don't remind me." She held out her hand and dropped her head in embarrassment as if the mere recollection of events hurt her soul. He nodded and opened the door revealing a room with just Ragnor and Athena. They sat on opposite sides of a table, placing down all their chess pieces. "Hello, my beautiful adorable." Ragnor interrupted him, "What do you want Loki, we're in the middle of something." Loki fell to the ground and began to cry, "Why is no one letting me finish my sentences?" He wailed. Ragnor grinned, "Me? Interrupt you? Never." Athena raised an eyebrow," What?" Ragnor shrugged her off, "Don't worry about it." Athena turned to Artemis, "Are you going to tell her?" She asked Ragnor. "Tell me what?" Artemis inquired.

"Those Princes are looking to recruit and he's a prime candidate," Ragnor said. Artemis beamed with pride, "That's great." Before she could continue Athena shook her head, "It would be great if he was sure about himself but if he can't keep his head then they'll walk all over him." The smile on the purple-haired goddess faded. She turned to walk out as Ragnor warned, "If you keep babying him, you'll always have to worry about him." Artemis opened the door, "I'm his older sister, it's my job to worry about him." She corrected, keeping her head low and gazing sternly.

Ragnor turned to Loki, "Are you going to go with her?" Loki shook his head. "I had enough fun for one day, but I can see you're about to get serious, so I'll get out of your hair. Good luck cutie pie." He blew a kiss before closing the door behind him. Ragnor turned to his opponent, "Once we do this there's no turning back." Athena's eyes narrowed as a flame sparked within her, "We both know what's at stake, let's get this over with." Ragnor took a deep breath in before reaching for his first piece, "Let the games begin."

"Let's just go over what's on the line," Ragnor said as he pulled back his hand. Athena fixed her pieces as she recited the details of their deal, "If I lose, I join your house and can't tell anyone about our deal but if you lose, I get all the points you worked for so far and you can't recruit anyone else from my house." Ragnor nodded in agreement. He placed his hand on his leftmost pawn and moved it two spaces forward. "Hey, let me ask you something, why did you want me to tell Artemis about the princes?" Athena moved her piece and replied, "As a courtesy to another Greek god nothing else."

Ragnor played, "No, I don't think so, if it was just that you would've told her yourself. Is it because you actually care if someone gets hurt?" Athena looked up, "People get hurt every day, Apollo putting himself in the fire isn't anything special." She hopped her knight to the front lines. Ragnor looked at the piece, "You sure? Isn't it because you were burnt by that fire, and you know how painful it is?" Athena narrowed her gaze at him, "What are you trying to get at? Do you think I am some hurt little girl with a big heart that is looking for a chance to prove she is different? That I'm not an egotistical bastard like the rest of them?"

"No, I definitely think you're egotistical, borderline narcissist and you're Zeus' bastard too, right?" He paused as he could tell the last line struck a nerve, "I'm not trying to get at anything but now I'm wondering why you jumped to those conclusions. Are you a hurt little girl wanting to prove she's different?" Ragnor raised his eyebrow. "I didn't jump to shit; you lead me there." Ragnor cut her off, "And are you often led rather than leading?" Athena put down her piece, "What are you doing? Is this some kind of therapy session for you? Are you trying to distract me from the game? That isn't going to work, I'm the Goddess of Wisdom And Defensive Strategy. I'm not going to be bettered by the likes of you." Ragnor raised his hands, "My bad, it wasn't supposed to come out that way. What I was trying to do was get to see how you view the other gods and now I have a fairly good understanding from both your words and your plays so far."

Ragnor:

The goddess of defense

So easily to take something as offence

Your walls are built dense.

Making sure no one could get over that fence.

Athena:

That hollow pride

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Won't stray me to your side.

The king's seat I haven't eyed.

I'll rather sit back and guide.

Ragnor

That's what I mean,

You are Zeus' gene.

Your stare is keen,

I think I've figured out what's behind your screen.

Athena:

Oh, do tell!

I'm sure you know me well.

From our little convos, you know the deep secrets that I quell.

In you are eyes I'm a princess under a spell

On this list I lie, Cinderella, Athena, and Belle

Ragnor:

You're still missing what I'm trying to say,

that no matter who's side you play,

at the end of the day

you don't look at us like we're prey.

That wickedness they can't lay in your heart,

But in defense, you can't forever impart.

"I'm done talking, this isn't a rhyming game, we're here to play chess." She lashed out. Ragnor interrupted her, "We both know this isn't just a game of chess. If you're tired of rhyming, let me say it straight up then. I don't think you're a princess or broken or anything else you just said. I know you now. I can tell that even after realizing how disgusting your 'friends' are and knowing they have nothing nice to say about you, you still care about them. You warned Artemis because you don't want to see Apollo get hurt, but that's not all; you warned her because you hope when she goes to get back Apollo. But let me tell you something as someone with a younger sibling."

His eyes narrowed and his tone had an edge of anger, "She isn't going to talk to them, if they hurt her little brother in any way, the only thing on her mind will be ripping out their throats. As for the other thing I said about being on the defense, that's all you do, in the game and in real life. If you want to see a change, you can't hint at it and hope other people do it for you. You need to stand up and fix it yourself and that won't happen if you stay on their side."

Athena caught herself quickly, "If you're done with your monologue, it's your turn to play." Ragnor laughed. "I think we played enough," Ragnor took her queen with his bishop and before she could play, he knocked down his own king.

He stood up, "One last thing, if anything you're not a little princess, you're a queen and if your king cared enough about you, he wouldn't have let you fall like that." He said as he walked to the door, Athena bit her lip, "He isn't my king." Ragnor turned, "What?" She couldn't make eye contact, "He's my brother and if anything, you said was true, then we wouldn't even be having this conversation in the first place." He shrugged, "Sometimes people need to be reminded of what's important." He waved her off, "Let me know in class tomorrow how you want to collect your points, but for now I need to stand by my bishop."

Artemis dropped on her bed. She took a deep breath and pulled her pillow over his face. Letting out a stifled scream and her body spasmed in anger. She had just gotten back from Apollo's room, and he refused to listen to reason. After she quelled her screams, she heard a knock on her door. She groaned and reluctantly got up. The first words out of her mouth when she opened the door were, "Ew, what do you want?"

She looked at Elena in disgust. Elena gave her a smile but rather than comfort her it just made Artemis more upset as that smile reminded her of Loki's. She knew nothing good would come out of their girl's mouth, "I came to put the hate between us to bed." Trying not to spit in her face Artemis hesitantly said, "I don't have the energy for this today." Elena sighed, "Well let me put it another way, I'm here to talk about your brother. He's at a party right now and I have a gut feeling something is going to go wrong." Artemis clenched down on the door handle, "And? Why are you telling me this? You can't possibly care for Apollo, I'm pretty sure he was nothing but shit to you."

Elena rolled her eyes. "Yeah, you're right. But I've learned a lot in my life and just because someone is rude doesn't make them a bad person. I don't think we can just sit by while he makes a terrible life decision." Artemis was dumbfounded, she looked at Elena for a moment. The goddess grabbed her stomach as she laughed uncontrollably. Elena stepped back as she watched this uncomfortably. When she was done, Artemis wiped the tears away from her eyes, "You know, you humans keep surprising me." She stepped out of the room, closing the door behind her. "So that means you're going to talk some sense into that idiot?" Elena laughed. Artemis shook her head, "No, that idiot never listened to sense, we're going to beat it into him."

Apollo staggered out of the bathroom and back into the dimly lit bedroom where Thor sat, with two demi-humans at his side. "A low tolerance as always my friend, you never were able to handle your liquor." Horus entered the room and closed the door behind him, "What's this idiot's problem?" He twisted his face as he approached the staggering god. "He just puked out our good crystal," Thor answered as he put his hand around one of the girls. Horus put his hand on Apollo's forehead, "You poor thing, you're burning up." Apollo turned to him with glassy eyes. His eyes widened as Horus slammed his fist into Apollo's stomach. The Greek god fell to his knees and began spewing out what little he had left in his stomach. Horus looked down in disgust and kicked him in the face. The room echoed as Apollo slammed against the wall. "You know, I could handle you being around the human, I get it, you're a guy and not that good looking so you're looking for easy pickings. What I cannot handle is you puking up my crystal after I gifted it to you free of charge. You really are pathetic." Thor got up and put his hand on Horus' shoulder, "That's enough." Horus pushed him away, "You're taking this bastard's side. Typical, I always knew you had a thing for their ilk." Thor stepped between the two of them, "You know that's not it. I just don't see the point in us fighting over something so pointless."

Artemis barged through the front door and scanned the crowd, but there was no sign of her brother. Horus had been given special treatment since he was Ra's son so instead of a dorm, he had a whole house. The downstairs was packed to the brim as music muffled out most of the conversations. She grabbed the closest person to the door, "Where's Thor and Horus?" Adam gave a hollow smile, "I think they're upstairs." She let go of him and rushed up the stairs. Adam turned back to Loki, "Oh, you were right? Now tell me what's the next stage of Ragnor's master plan." Loki grinned and gestured for his drinking buddy to follow him.

The door swung open. Horus turned around angrily to see who had the audacity to do this in his house, but no one was there. He looked back and saw Artemis stooping down next to her brother. "Oh, I don't recall giving you permission to come to my party, sympathizer." Artemis paid him no heed as he looked at her brother's wounds in horror. "So, you're going to ignore me?" Horus raised his voice, standing up, and cracked his neck, "You know, if we don't teach little children how to behave, they'll go through life thinking it's okay to be rude." Horus gave a twisted smile, looking at Thor.

Adam followed Loki into the basement, "So what are we looking for?" Adam asked as Loki approached the wall, "A warrior hunts during the day, and even birds need time to get their eyes adjusted to the darkness but a hunter," He stopped as he opened the fuse box, "They excel at hunting in the darkness." He smiled as he flipped off the power switch.

Thor and Horus stopped moving as darkness swallowed them, the only thing they could see were two glowing purple eyes. In an instant, they were gone, "Where is," Before Horus could finish Artemis kneed him in the stomach and when he fell to his knees, she grabbed his head and slammed it into the ground. Thor swung but she was gone.

Without him seeing, she spun and kicked him in the temple. He staggered back and she kicked his shin. He too fell to his knees, but she wasn't done. She grabbed his right wrist and pressed her knee against his elbow. She brought her face closer to his and whispered, "It's about time you learned how it feels to be someone else's prey." His heart raced as the glowing purple orbs leered down at him. He opened his mouth but couldn't find the right words to say. She pulled back his wrist and pushed her knee forward. Thor's scream filled the darkness and echoed through the house like a roar of thunder.

Loki smirked as he pressed against the fuse box, "Okay, I think that's our queue to turn back on the lights." He said as he flipped the switch back. The lights flickered back on, revealing Thor huddling to the ground, clutching his broken arm. Horus tried to get back up but as Artemis passed, she grabbed his head once more and slammed it back into the ground with more force than the first time. The two girls hugged each other on the bed as Artemis approached her brother. She helped him to his feet without saying a word. Neither Thor nor Horus could make a move to stop them from leaving as they clutched their wounds.

Ragnor approached Elena who was sitting on the steps outside the house, "Oh, didn't pick you as a partier." Elena ignored him as he drew closer. The whole house fell silent, not recovering from Thor's scream, they stood in silence as Artemis aided her brother down the steps. They exited, Ragnor giving them a big smile, "Geez, so now you're O for two." He said to Apollo. Bloodlust emanated from behind the twins as Horus barged down the steps, "You think you can storm into my house, assault us and just leave?" He shouted. Artemis made it to the bottom of the steps and he exited the front door. She, Ragnor, and Elena looked at Horus and his scorn grew, "You think I won't kill you and your human pets? You filthy half-breed!" He bellowed as he clutched his fist, beginning to approach them.

"I'm pretty sure you won't," Adam said calmly as he and Loki came from behind. Horus stopped, their overwhelming aura causing him to break out in a cold sweat. Loki passed him, "I think that's enough fighting for one night. Or would you like to go against the words of The God-killer?" Adam took his hands out of his pockets and cracked his knuckles. "So, what would it be? Would you like to get your ass kicked here and then reported to the headmaster for substance abuse and assault or go back inside and get wasted until you calm down? Choose wisely because I don't think your daddy would like to hear what his son is up to."

Horus cursed under his breath before going back into the house, defeat and anger riddled his face. Adam looked at Ragnor and they both nodded their heads before Adam followed Horus back into the house. Ragnor then turned to Loki, "I thought you said you had enough fun for the night?" Loki smiled, "I thought I did, but when you messaged me about this wonderful plan of yours, I couldn't resist." Artemis looked at Ragnor, "You're the reason the lights turned off." Ragnor smiled as he took Apollo's other side. "It may be the job of an older sibling to look out for their younger ones and it's the job of the king to look out for his people." He informed her.

She smiled back as they began to walk away, "Don't think for one second this means I'm your people." She retorted, trying to sound as serious as possible. "Oh, my people? No no no, there's no way I would want an ugly creature like you among my ranks." She rolled her eyes, "Whatever." They left, carrying Apollo back to his room. Loki turned to Elena, "Before you go, I would like to ask you something if you don't mind." She sat back down, "I hope I'm compensated for my time." Loki smiled, "10 points, now tell me, how did you get into this school."
