“SHIT SOMEONE IS AFTER ME!!! I NEED YOUR HELP NOW!”
“I’M ON MY WAY B-.........”
Before the sentence was finished, a loud bang interrupted the call.
“HELLO?! HELLO!! FUCK THIS!”
*Clank* *Crash*
The man hurled his phone at the wall of the alleyway in an outrage. He dashed through the dark, trying to escape from his pursuer until he met a dead end.
“Shit, shit, shit! WHERE ARE YOU? COME OUT! COME OUT, YOU MOTHERFUCKER!”
Seeing the shadow drop in front of him from a three-story building, he growled.
“Who are you?”
There was a brief moment of pause after the man finished his sentence. Taking this chance, the man quickly searched through his clothes and pulled out a metal weapon. He aimed at the figure in front of him.
*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*
*Thump*
A few seconds later, the body fell to the ground, lifeless and bleeding heavily.
“.......”

As the flashing of sirens drew closer, the unknown figure left the scene. Soon, the night turned today and the sky grew brighter.
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
“Esien. Eisen... Esiennnnnn, wake up or you’re gonna be late.”
She rocked me, waking me up from a deep sleep. I grabbed her shoulder and pulled her in, hugging her as a body pillow.
“Ughhh... Esien, you're squishing me.”
I woke up to the movements of struggling. As I opened my eyes, I saw a feminine figure in front of me and removed my left arm from her stomach. The bright sunlight hitting my face made me rub my eyes. I sat up.
“Goood mooooooorrrrniiiiinnnnggg Kaya ahhhhh...”
I stretched my arms out and yawned while greeting my sister. Kaya, too, sat up and hopped off my bed, her black hair swaying from side to side looking at my sister’s back made me feel that everything was good and blissful. I picked up my phone from the night table next to me and checked the time. I concluded that I had roughly an hour to get ready for school.
I heard a familiar sizzling noise and sniffed the air as the scent of bacon drifted from the kitchen.
“Hey Kaya, are you cooking something?”
“Yeah. Hurry and get ready, we gotta go in an hour.”
“Alright,” I answered back.
Kaya left the room to go back to the kitchen. I opened my closet and rummaged through to look for my new school uniform that I got two weeks back before school started. I always cook for her, so I wonder why she is cooking now. She must be excited to go to her new school, especially since she never had the chance to make many friends her age before.

Changing to my uniform, I took off the clothes I was wearing. As I put on my new pants, I raised my head and saw a wide scar across my upper chest in the mirror. I quickly finished changing and moved towards the restroom to do my usual business. While brushing my teeth and washing my face, I remembered the job I completed yesterday. I sighed to the fact it can’t be helped. Jobs are done by people willing to do them. I shrugged it off as I dried the water off my head with a towel.I combed my glossy hair to the side, almost looking like a pompadour.
While moving towards the dining table, I glanced at the breakfast on the table. The sweet aroma had already filled the house. I took a seat at the rear end of the table, across from my sister. I stared at Kaya as she poured freshly squeezed orange juice into two glass cups and passed my cup by sliding it across the table after sitting across from me.
“Kaya, why did you decide to cook now?”
I asked her out of curiosity and she responded casually, saying that she just wanted to and didn’t want to wait for me to wake up. I just nodded and thought my sister is growing up. Awww, I love her so much.
Taking my time to eat breakfast, I looked at the news feed on my phone until I saw an article that caught my eye: [Political Man Found Dead Alleyway]. Upon seeing this, I choked on the sizzling bacon.
“You okay nii-chan?” Kaya asked.
“Ah. Y-yeah I’m fine, the bacon was still hot.” I replied while sticking my tongue out.
“How’s the food?”
“Mmm ish sho goosh.” I responded, ignoring the news that popped up.
While we ate, Kaya asked about how if she ever had friends come over, I shouldn't interfere without permission. We laughed and talked as we gobbled down the food. After finishing the delicious morning meal, Kaya went back to the kitchen and brought two Bentos with her. She noted in addition that the Bentos contained 25 percent vegetables, 50 percent meat, and the remaining 25 percent rice. Thanking her for the nice meal, I got up and took the plates to the sink in the kitchen to clean them. As I head back to the table I saw Kaya lying down on the sofa with her back facing the ceiling and her head turned left, watching the news on the television. I walked over to her and sat down next to her by her feet. She got up and brushed her dark, glossy hair over her right shoulder to lay down on my lap. I caressed her head, sometimes taking glances at her right ear.
“New life ... a new beginning.”
I muttered words under my breath. Due to being tired from making breakfast and Bentos and from her excitement to go to her new school Kaya quickly fell asleep. This blissfulness... I wish things could stay like this forever, but a quote suddenly pops into my mind: ‘You can't stop time. You can't capture light. You can only turn your face up and let it rain down.’ I agree with it. Time will always move on and will wait for no one.
Leaving the house, Kaya waited for me as I closed the door. As we began to walk towards our new school, Kaya stretched her arms into a wide Y and yawned.
“You slept good, didn’t you?”
“Yup, the warmth of your laps made me fall asleep. Oh and I forgot to mention, please stop working at the factory. You keep coming home late and exhausted. It’s going to take a toll on you and we have enough money to live on for a few years anyway.”
“Even if we have enough money to live on for the next few years, I want to make sure we’re secured. Don’t worry, I’ll be okay. I wouldn’t leave you alone. I’m here for you, Kaya.”
She nodded in acceptance and hugged my right arm. Sibling love is mutual. I love her but not in the sense of ‘no man will touch my sister, only I will’, of course. Arriving at our school, I unconsciously calculated the time length of the walk. It was about a ten to fifteen-minute walk. Many students also arrived at the school at the same time we did. We entered, and Kaya separated from me to go to her own designated area.
