Chapter 6: Recovery

Leaning against the wall, Lyra watches as Kak-Yak is observed by healers/mages discussing with one another.

"These wounds. They're...they're abnormal."

"You can say that again. We have slashes, blunt injuries, magical injuries, list goes on. Yet despite our best healers and healing mages, these wounds don't just automatically heal with a healing spell like any other."

"What could have done this?"

"Well, monsters vary, so who knows."

As the healers do their job, Lyra thinks back to the encounter. Kak-Yak's transformation. The so called angel. Countless thoughts raced throughout her mind. One thing that stuck with her besides the fact that she fought an angel of all things, was that she still retained her memory of the encounter. Perhaps he had just gotten too distracted to actually remember to wipe her memory of the encounter.

Another thing she kept wondering...why? Why did an angel need to gather energy from hero's souls? What was his end goal? She remembered him rambling about revenge and gathering strength. So that leaves this question in her mind. Why is this angel even within the mortal plain?

What makes Lyra quite unnerved is the fact that angels are never actually given concrete, detailed explanations within books that speak of them. From what she's read, they're mysterious, divine beings whose entire existence is shrouded in complete mystery. There's never definitive evidence of what they truly look like. What they do. Anything. Of course there's countless stories depicting of them of certain ways...but there's never a true, proven answer. And this fact makes Lyra...tense, to say the least.

"Hey, you." Turning to the voice, Lyra comes face to face with one of the healers. "We tried helping him of his injuries. Luckily from what we've seen it's nothing fatal! He just needs rest is all. We've done all we could."

"I see." She looks to Kak-Yak, who despite his injuries seems to be jolly and back to his normal self, telling his absurd stories to one of the doctors.

"You know, I've never seen injuries like his before. They look like regular injuries you see from most hero's, but we can't even heal them with magic."

*shrug* "Perhaps herbal remedies is best."

*nod* "We've just given him some now. We'll have to wait to see if those will work."

"Hey Lyra!! Yesterday was so cool!!! I mean did you see what happened?! That guy was so strong!!! I never fought anyone like that before!!!"

"Yeah...definitely." She walks over to his medical bed. "I still can't believe any of yesterday."

"I can!!! I mean it was like POW, and BAM!!! Like something from my wildest fantasy!!! And that thing with ME?! I mean i didn't even KNOW i could do those cool moves!!! AND my fur changed color too!! I mean I prefer my normal crazy coloring but still it was SO COOL!!!"

His upbeat and childlike way of explaining the fight yesterday made her chuckle. She sits down in a seat next to him. "About your powers...I probably should've explained thi-"

"My powers?! Yeah!! He said I was, like, full moon birthed. What does THAT mean?! Oh!!! Does that have something to do with my transformation yesterday?!"

*nod* "Let me explain."

Going in depth of what shes read of full moon birthed Suxarine, she explains in detail on what Kak-Yak has been blessed with. He stares in awe and wonder at her explanation, giggling a bit after she finishes.

"So you see, you've been blessed. By this Aza-Riel god. God of your people."

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

"THAT'S SO COOL!!! Me, blessed?! I don't even KNOW who this guy is and I already LOVE HIM!!! Thank you Aza-Riel!!! Hehehehehe."

"From the other pages I've read, this Aza-Riel also blesses the regular Suxarine as well. But your specific blessing? Very different. I don't know why he'd choose you to receive such a powerful gift. But hey, what do I know. Maybe your who he saw most suited to wield the power."

"I mean i AM Kak-Yak! The fearless, valiant hero who never retreats from battle!! Ahahahaha-ow, ow ow ow ow."

"Shh, enough talking, you need to rest those wounds."

"Pfft, this ain't NOTHING- ok ow ow ow, yep they are something actually."

Kak-Yak relaxed as he reframed from moving. The evening rays of the sun shined into the room, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere to the otherwise boring medical room.

"Hey Lyra." He says, turning to her. "You know you COULD leave right? Like go hunt monsters and stuff! You don't have to just sit here."

"Out of the question. Me agreeing to bring you along with me yesterday led to this."

"Yeah, but then I wouldn't have found out I had SUPER COOL MOON POWERS!!"

"..." She runs her paw through head fur, clearly guilty she didn't tell him earlier. "I actually knew that already. I just didn't tell you. Read up on your species history and those blessed with the power that you have. You can tell by the markings and coloring that's on the faces of full moon birthed Suxarine. I should've told you."

"Pfft, whatevs. I know now!!! I mean I probably would have tried something stupid to unlock my powers if you told me anyway. Oh!! Like wrestling an alligator in a swamp!!!"

"W-wha?"

"Or maybe something like fighting a monster with my bare fist with no clothing on!!!"

Lyra blushed as she imagined the...scene, play out in her mind. She quickly gets rid of the naughty thought and speaks. "Ok ok, I get it. But still, I should have told you."

With a wave of his paw, he plays it off. "Seriously, It's fiiiiiiiine. Water under the bridge. Hey! I know! To lighten the mood, it's STORY TIIIIIIME!!!"

Before she could even speak, Kak-Yak began his rambling of his absurd, crazy stories.

"So this one time, I was on top a burning building fighting ghouls, and suddenly, I got to thinking!!! Now I just got to thinking, what if I copied a rat I saw spinning in a circle and used that to make a new style of fighting?! So there I was, spinning in circles with my sword right!! Like a rat cornered by a cat!! Expect this time it's me cornered by hungry ghouls! Ha, unbeknownst to them I'm a hero!!! So BOOM and BAM, two go flying off the roof and another I end up vanquishing! That leaves the last one! So i pounce off of the wall by me and end up kicking the last ghoul off the roof! Ha, real cool right?! Wellllll, accidentally falling 8 stories down, is not cool! So I gets to thinking, how am I gonna live this? Well, by landing on the ghoul I just kicked off the roof! Sure enough I land right on that sucker, breaking my fall. Man oh man you shoulda seen the look on my face, oh man."

Story after story, he just kept rambling on and on. Most would find Kak-Yak's rambling of absurd and ridiculous scenarios annoying. This would not be the case for Lyra, as she would actually really enjoy listening to his wild and wacky stories, a smile present on her muzzle.

As time passed, Lyra suddenly yawns, clearly haven't gotten enough sleep as of late. "I am so unbelievably tired." Rubbing her eyes, she leans back a bit. "This entire week has been exhausting. I'm just going to pass out in this chair. You can continue your stories if you want."

"Oh!! I actually just remembered this one story with a talking squirrel!!!"

As the minutes passed as she drifted ever so closer to slumber, Lyra continued listening intently to Kak-Yak's stories, a small smile on her muzzle as her tired form grew ever so close to slumber.

Eventually, she fell asleep after a few more minutes. Slow breathes left her as Kak-Yak stopped rambling, speaking up. "Oh! You're sleeeeeping now i didn't notice. Oh, I need to be quiet. Quiet Kak-Yak quiet!"

The Suxarine averted his gaze to the ceiling. Thinking back to yesterday, his thoughts start to race. "Man. I really had a CRAZY day yesterday. Fighting a golem, and right after that an angel!! Oh! Quiet Kak-Yak."

Despite what happened yesterday, his thoughts only think of it as a super cool memory! Obviously it's like top ten, but he really doesn't think to much on it. Yeah! I fought an angel! So what? That's basically his entire thought process as his mind shifts to other things, such as how do you effectively wrestle alligators. Yep. His mind has already pocketed yesterday's events into his story book catalogue now.

As he thought up many weird questions and even weirder answers, he eventually grew drowsy, the night rays from outside shining into the room. He probably didn't even process that it was even night at this point as he quickly fell asleep.
