Juan’s head hurt as he got up of the ground, it was the second time in as many days that he woke up in such a condition. It was morning once again and when he looked up the clock near his bed it read 7:30 a.m. He looked around the room to find a command prompt appear on the side of his vision. User interface online...... Appeared then the prompt disappeared from his vision. A soothing female voice spoke in his head.
“Hello I am Unity your suit A.I., I’m running diagnostics on your person to better assist you....”
What the hell? This thing could speak inside of his head, could it read his thoughts too.
“Of course, I can silly.” The voice continued. “Once I’m done running diagnostics, I will be able to serve you better.”
Juan looked at his suit in surprise it fit him like a glove, not only that the suit was glowing in a rainbow-like cascade of colors. Then he remembered that he had to be at the contest in an hour for registration, he wished he was in jeans and a t- shirt so he could have already left he would be late at this rate. As he ran to change his clothes, they instead materialized on him and to his surprise he was no longer wearing the super suit. Was he going crazy?
“Nope your sanity is quite intact.” The voice in his head said. “This is one of my many functions, I can change my image to better suit your needs.”
“Damn.” Juan said out loud. “I’ll never have to buy clothes ever again, although I will have to clean you so I guess that’s a no go.”
“Actually, I have a self-cleaning mechanism for both you and I. So, there will be no need for that.”
Juan whistled considering how much money he would save a year on clothing and water. Then he remembered he was on a time crunch and flew out of the house. It wouldn’t usually take him an hour to make it to the stadium if he had his car but now that he had to take the train so he ran to nearest station. He got lucky making it in one second before the doors closed on him. Damn that was close he had run all the way here and he wasn’t even that winded. That was really surprising then the voice in his head went on to explain why.
“I have modified the way you run and increased your muscle’s abilities by 50%, although you are not in very good shape. I will have to make a training regimen for you.”
Hey man Juan knew he wasn’t in the best shape he even a had a small pot belly but hey he was thirty now. Beer and pizza don’t process as fast they did when you were twenty or hell a teenager. The train ride took about thirty minutes giving just enough time to make to the front of the stadium to sign up for the event. As he was walking up to the stadium, he remembered to change into his superhero costume. It didn’t even take his suit a second to change into a tight-fitting suit that accentuated all of his muscles and of course the lack of a six pack. Instead he had a small pot belly stretching out that specific area of the suit.
Well he wasn’t going to win any Mr. Universe awards but at least he looked kind of the part for this situation. The suit was still silver but he soon changed it to black with golden trim making it look much nicer or so he thought. He walked towards the stadium passing small trailer homes to large trucks with hero's portrait put on the side. Some of them had sponsors while others had just come from the middle of nowhere to try out for this event. He remembered hearing years ago when these events happened every few weeks and were televised that new heroes came out every day.
Everything had changed when the supervillains began to get organized and began to kill and televise deaths of heroes to stop these events from happening. In the end one of these events got hit hard and they were no longer televised and protected by the U.S. government when new heroes needed to be recruited. These attacks had also stopped the growth of major teams from popping up. There were few independent teams and fewer independent heroes out there, year by year the number the numbers were growing smaller. It seemed eventually the government and the large teams would own all of the heroes that were out there. Which didn’t bother Juan that much it actually made him feel like a more organized way of things helped out the world. Hell, he couldn’t remember the last major supervillain attack that happened on American soil.

As he entered the stadium there was a pudgy man with glasses short blonde hair and a very stylish moustache sitting at the front desk picking up some papers and putting them into a small briefcase.
“Hello I’m here to register for the superhero event.” Juan said smiling
The pudgy man shifted his glasses looking up with his blue eyes surprised to see someone coming in this late. Looking at his watch he sighed and took out a form. “Please sign here, put your ability here, and head down that hall.” The pudgy man sat back down opened his briefcase examining the young man in front of him.
“Thanks.” Juan said then began to sign his name after he skimmed over the contract that said something more or less that they weren’t responsible for any injuries that may befall the contestants. Then it asked his age thirty three, then his power all he wrote down was luck.
The pudgy man lifted and eyebrow at that and said, “Is that joke your power is luck?”
“Nope, it should be an easy first exam wish me luck.” Juan said taking the paper to the next room.
-------
As the young man left the room the pudgy man just sat there thinking. Luck he hadn’t heard of anyone having that ability for years and even then, it was to a small scale. Even then he had seen what a small scale of luck could do to a battle, a little luck here and there could be disastrous to the opposing side. He picked up his phone and called the mental abilities instructor. The phone rang three times before a sharp voice could be heard on the other side.
“Yes Gregor, you know I don’t have time to talk to you right now what do you want.” The voice said in a stern tone.
“I want you to give mental test ninety two to you last participant.” He responded. The line was silent for a while before he heard a response.
“Ninety two Gregor? What did the last contestant do to you? We only give that test to sure fail mental attributes.”
“His power is luck John, you remember how that works.”
Laughter ignited over the other side of the line John took a minute to compose himself than said. “Ah Gregor, I’m sorry for ever calling you boring anyways I have to go it was a god laugh.”
The line went dead and Gregor got up and shifted. His body contorted from his former appearance into that of a built blonde blue-eyed man with a stylish moustache. Picking up his suitcase he moved into a small room at the end of the other hallway. Twenty people sat around a table, each with their own sidekick. Gregor was the only one who at the moment was not mentoring one and sat down to talk to his team.

Juan opened a door to the end of the hallway. As soon as it opened, he saw a variety of contestants in very extravagant costumes talking to each other. They all ignored Juan most likely talking to other people they had met before. Juan sat down on a cold steel chair waiting for his turn to come up, it was quite impressive to see these many heroes sitting down talking to each other. Time passed slowly as hero after hero went in and came out of the exam.
Juan just waited playing minesweeper on his suits interface as he waited for his turn. It wasn’t too long before someone was trying to get his attention.
“Hello. My name is Ann what’s yours.” Said a short white girl with dark black hair and deep was that scarlet eyes. She was wearing a battle dress that was all the rave in Asia. It was a dark blue dress backless dress and a with a plunging neckline which you could say went well with her assets. Juan was instantly entranced with her.
*Warning* Pheromonal Attack detected beginning countermeasure.
Juan Snapped out of it once he saw the warning but before he could react a jet of water sprayed from his hands dousing the girl. Where the hell had that water even come from? The girl shrieked moving away from jet of cold water that had hit her like a wave. Juan got up looking a bit surprised he looked up to see everyone looking at the super wet Ann then they turn to look at him. He quickly composed himself and sat back down.
“How dare you?” Ann shrieked.
“You should know it’s rude to use your powers on other people.” Juan said. And went back to not paying attention to anyone else. He felt a trickle of sweat falling from the and hoped for the best.
“Nobody, came up to him after that but he could hear a couple of people mentioning hydrokensis and that he must have strong mental defenses too.”
He asked the suits A.I. what hydrokensis was.
“Hydrokensis, the ability to control fluids or liquids with your mind.”
He guessed it made sense he did come to the mental part of the exam. It didn’t take too long before it was his turn to take the first exam. Very few people left smiling and very hopeful even Ann the girl now hated him got a pass. Now it was his turn to go he opened the door to the first exam.
