Entrance Exam

Entrance Exam

Izuku wasn't sure what he expected when Nox had offered to train him, but he was certain this wasn't it.

It had started simply enough with basic physical training though the training was extremely harsh. As Nox was able to heal him whenever he overdid it which was often. So, he let Izuku set the pace it wasn’t till much later did Nox admit he had done so because he knew Izuku would push himself far harder than he ever could. Something that honestly would have never clicked with Izuku if Nox hadn’t pointed it out for him after the twelfth time, he passed out that day and Nox had decided to put his foot down. Mostly because Izuku was putting a sizeable dent in his wakfu reserve.

So, Nox instead had him help in his workshop to learn about his equipment and eventually create his own. Unfortunately, Nox didn’t have a lot to work with due to his supply issues. This got Izuku thinking and within forty minutes he had a map and several locations marked where Nox could find a lot of usable materials. Most were illegal dumping sites like Dagobah municipal beach and a junkyard. This solved Nox’s material issues for the time being and had the added effect of helping to clean up the community. Nox couldn't help but smile under his mask Izuku never failed to surprise him.

It wasn’t till a few days later during one of Nox’s technical lessons did Izuku find out about Nox’s wakfu shortage and just where the miracle substance came from. At first, Izuku was horrified especially when Nox had shown him the small section of the forest he had drained. Though he did find some relief when Nox admitted he was looking for a less destructive Method to fuel his equipment. It took Izuku close to a month to find a solution and it was mostly by accident when he did. Izuku had stumbled upon a busted up old energy collector. A support item used by people with energy or radiation type quirks to help power their homes or realis pent up energy when needed. Izuku brought it to Nox and with a little tinkering, they managed to get a functional wakfu collector prototype up and running. After that, it took them close to a month to create the final design and test it. It turned out living things gave off a small constant amount of wakfu that could harmlessly be absorbed. The problem was each collector had a limited range and small output, so they had to compensate with a large number of them over a wide area. This allowed Nox to greatly expand his swarm and rapidly expand his research, production, development, and surveillance capabilities. Helped along in no small part by Izuku's curious analytical mind.

It was around this time Izuku had a decent understanding of the basics, though he still needed to rely on an emitter or Rubilax as a focus. It was at this point he decided it was time to explain things to his mother, and that had most definitely not gone as planned and Rubilax really didn't help. Things got out of hand and the Midoriya matriarch had all but ordered him to call Nox over to chew him out. Nox still didn't have a proper phone, so Izuku just shrugged walked outside and shouted Nox name to his mother's bafflement. She would probably have thought Izuku was mad if Nox himself hadn't materialized Infront of them startling Inko. Who promptly sent the entirety of the kitchen cutlery at him with her quirk. Nox simply stopped them with a wave of his hand. What followed was the strangest dinner Izuku had ever had. He certainly wasn't going to be able to forget it any time soon just like how he hoped Rubilax wouldn't forget his night in the washing machine.

Izuku spent the next few months training, studying, and learning he did a lot of learning. Learning magic, how to fight with a sword, hand to hand combat, mechanical engineering, programming, metalworking, weapon and armorer smithing the list went on. Izuku consumed any lesson Nox set out for him, overcame any problem or challenge set in his way, and surpassed any of Nox's or anyone's expectations really.

However, as they say, all good things must come to an end, and this was no different. As it wasn’t long after that the day of the entrance exam came and Izuku found himself at the gates to U.A.

Izuku took a deep breath to calm himself before heading into the U.A. campus. He needed to get moving or else he'd miss the exam but as he made his way through the courtyard his foot got caught in a break in the concrete tripping him. He felt someone touch him, but he didn't register it instead on instinct he activated his teleporter. Only to find himself now hovering a few feet off the ground spinning out of control before levitating himself to be upright. The odd part was he was still floating even after he stopped levitating himself.

“Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry I tried to use my quirk to save you from the fall. Though it looks like you had it under control. Oh, I'll let you down now.” A girl with short brown hair said before placing her fingertips together and saying. “Release” Letting Izuku fall to the ground catching himself at the last second with his levitation ability to lessen the fall.

“Sorry, again I guess I should have kept to myself.” The girl said sounding ashamed of herself.

“No no, it’s ok you had the right idea and all. You just didn't know my abilities I mean if you didn't want to help people why would you be here this is a hero school after all.” Izuku said trying to comfort her.

“Yeah, he's right we are all here to be heroes after all.” A girl with pink hair and skin chipped in cheerfully.

Izuku was a little startled by her sudden appearance, but he was going to take all the help he could get at this point. However just as she started to cheer up a familiar voice cut in.

“What the hell are you doing here you damn nerd!” Bakugo Barked as he approached the group. Izuku flinched out of habit and unintentionally drew upon his magic in reaction to the perceived threat. This caused the quartz crystal in his teleporter under his shirt to glow green for a second before dimming back down as Izuku calmed himself. Knowing that Bakugo wouldn’t risk picking a fight in front of UA and risk getting barred from taking the test altogether.

“Hey, what’s your problem man!?” The pink skinned girl said defensively putting herself between Bakugo and Izuku.

“Step aside pinky my issues with that cheating bastard, not you.” Bakugo growled as small sparks formed in his palms.

“Cheating? What you this guy’s boyfriend or something?” The pink skinned girl asked Izuku who turned bright red stuttering out. “N n no no no I’m straight not that’ there’s anything wrong with that. It’s just not for me and Kacchan is way too violent to ever consider being in a relationship with.” His words coming out so fast that it was almost unintelligible.

“What the hell you pink bitch! You got a death wish or something!?” Bakugo barked, the sparks in his hand growing more violent.

“Oh, great boom boom boys here.” Rubilax growled from inside Izuku’s bag.

“Who said that?” The brown haired girl asked looking around in confusion.

“You brought the damn knife! It's bad enough you're going to try and cheat your way through the exam you just had to bring the stupid knife!” Bakugo growled out.

“What!?!” The two girls said turning to Izuku in shock.

“Kacchan for the last time it's not cheating. I confirmed it with the school before hand. We are allowed to use support items in the test so long as they relate to our abilities, and they'll be checked before the practical.” Izuku groaned rubbing the bridge of his nose in annoyance.

“I don’t care what you say, you quirkless bastard! using some weird device to get powers is cheating and I hope UA has enough sense to throw your ass out for it!” Bakugo growled before shoving his way past Izuku and the girls.

“Jesus, he needs some help or something.” The pink skinned girls said helping Izuku up.

“I don't mean to pry but could you explain to me why he keeps calling you a cheater? Because that was all pretty much just a bunch of yelling to me.” The brown haired girl asked sheepishly.

“He calls me a cheater because I don't have a quirk. However, I found a way around that.” Izuku said forming a glowing green energy ball in his hand while the quartz crystal on his chest lit up again.

“Wow! Wait how are you able to do that if you don't have a quirk?” The pink skin girl said in shock.

“That is a very complicated question. But the extremely short version of the answer is. I'm wearing a device under my shirt that allows me to channel energy and do a few other things. I have other devices to help me do other things but in short, I figured out a way to get myself powers using a mix of gadgets and otherworldly energy. Now I can't take all the credit I did have a good teacher who showed me the basics of how this energy worked.” Izuku said tapping the glowing spot on his shirt with his free hand before dissipating the orb of energy.

“That's incredible but wouldn’t it be better to go into the support department with this? I mean if you can make gadgets like these. You could make a fortune on just the patents of the concepts alone!” The brown haired girl said cheerfully.

“No normally that would be a good choice, but I don't want to be in the support department I want to be in the hero course. It's been my dream since I was little to be a hero and now, I finally have the ability to do so to prove to everyone that just because you're quirkless you're not worthless.” Izuku said determinedly.

“Well, fair enough man gotta respect someone who chases after their dreams like that.” As the pink skin girl said that the bell that signified the last call for the test rang.

“Oh no, we are going to be late for the test.” The brown haired girl said as she turned to the school to run only to turn back when she felt a hand grab her shoulder.

“I'll get us there hold on.” Izuku said as the outlines of Izuku and the two girls flickered for half a second before they teleported into the classroom. The pink skinned girl stumbled forward having to take a few deep breaths to try and settle her stomach. While the brown haired girl shot for the nearest trash can to throw up her breakfast.

“Oh, I’m so sorry I forgot most people don't react well to their first teleportation.” He said placing his hand on the pink skinned girl's back pouring a small amount of his wakfu into her to help her recover and ease her discomfort. Before turning to the brown haired girl and doing the same.

“Thanks for your help dude but next time please give us a bit more warning first.” The pink girl said before she and the brown haired girl found their seat.

Izuku followed their lead hunting for his seat as the teachers passed out papers and pens for the written exam. Izuku was kind of surprised at how easy the written exam was. Though ever since he had started training with Knox, he wasn't sure if it was due to some odd effect of the magic. Or the fact he literally spent his entire day studying both magic and science, but schoolwork had become trivial at best and just outright boring at worst. Due to this Izuku had finished the test in a matter of minutes leaving him over an hour before the practical exam to just sit and wait. Izuku turned in his paper to the surprise of the teacher before being offered to go ahead and head over to the lecture hall and wait there. Izuku thanked them before walking out and though he wasn't technically supposed to he went to his assigned locker to grab his briefcase that held his equipment.

He quickly popped it open and began to inspect his equipment. He honestly wished he could have brought more even though he was technically cheating bringing as much as he did. UA had a strict maximum of three support items limit. Unless you were given written permission by the principal before the exam three items was the maximum, and annoyingly, they counted each one of his gauntlets as one of the items in total he had his teleporter/power pack two multitool gauntlets and lastly Rubilax.

Izuku wasn't sure if Rubilax counted as a support item as he was technically alive but just in case, he was leaving Rubilax in his bag. Plus, if it came down to it, he could summon Rubilax from just about anywhere if he needed him. This little trick surprised Knox. Apparently, when he had forced his will into Rubilax there had been some type of connection made. Izuku was able to summon Rubilax through this connection and Rubilax had become corrupted by Izuku. Knox had explained that's when two souls became intertwined willingly or unwillingly even with a minor connection like they had. The stronger of the two souls would become dominant and would intern assert some level of influence over the weaker. Knox would have put his full efforts into breaking the connection if it wasn't for the fact that Izuku apparently had a far stronger soul than Rubilax. All he really understood about that was that Rubilax never should have been able to possess him in the first place for some reason Nox seemed to find this very humorous though Izuku had no idea why.

Izuku checked the time on his phone, something he seemed to be doing less and less lately. He could just chalk this up to Xelor's having some innate ability to know what time it was. The written exams were supposed to take two hours to complete. He had completed it in under fifteen minutes, so he was going to be here for a while.

Izuku sighed and pulled out his notebook as he began to work on his hero notes. However, as he worked his mind began to drift, he couldn't help but think about the murderous look Bakugo had given him when he turned in his test. Bakugo had not been happy when Izuku first started showing off his new abilities a few months back.

It had been months since Izuku had started training with Knox. He had just finished learning the basics of manipulating wakfu and he and Nox had finished his first prototype teleporter/power pack unfortunately this was before they found the energy collector, so this version had a limited power supply. However, it still made using magic a heck of a lot easier than if he tried to call upon his own wakfu. Now that said it was still something he could do. Though he still wasn't the best at it, he could do it easily enough, but it was never quite as powerful or as easy as it was drawing from an exterior source. Something both he and Nox agreed was a crutch he could not afford to limit himself with. So, he said he wasn't allowed to use the Power Pack during any training sessions. Now he was free to use it for his day-to-day activities and he had taken to wearing it at all times as it wasn't too particularly bulky, and he could wear it under most of his outfits. Well so long as the sleeves weren't too short, and he remembered to close the covering over the quartz crystal power cell in the chest. He still found it curious how something as simple as quartz could hold so many unique properties when it came to interfacing with wakfu. Not only was it a battery it was a focus and could retain simple commands to make simple magical machines. Knox is viewer he used to keep an eye on his swarm was one such of these machines. All it was a simple visual spell focused through a quartz crystal and projected onto the various lenses. By moving the lenses, you could change which Noxine you were looking at. Simple but surprisingly effective.

Izuku smiled at this as he pulled out another notebook where he wrote down observations about magic and gadgets. Nox had told him that his analytic abilities were one of his greatest strengths. Izuku started to flip through the book coming back to the page where he had started to write down the properties of quartz crystals. Frowning when he saw the two downsides. ‘Fragile.’ and. ‘Explosive when charged.’ It seemed like no matter what Izuku did that day he couldn't escape thoughts of Bakugo and what happened.

The day had gone the same as any other day at school. With the students and even some of the teachers poking fun at him because he was the quirkless freak of the class. That was till gym that day he had managed to convince his teacher well more like a bribe as he had to slip him some yen to let him try something during a quirk training day. When Izuku started out onto a small target range they had set up for those with ranged based quirks everyone got silent confused as to why the quirkless freak was here for. As well as what the heck he was wearing as his old multitool gauntlet prototypes were a lot bulkier than his current models. Mostly because Izuku still didn't have much knowledge on how to build them and Knox didn't have a lot of knowledge on electronics to make them more compact. Izuku still couldn't help but smile at the thought of the look on his classmate's faces when he obliterated the targets.

He just wished Bakugo hadn't gone berserk over it all. The two had just barely avoided having it put on their records or being expelled. Since then, Bakugo had been taking every opportunity he could to try and get Izuku alone so he could pay him back for that embarrassment. Something that was no easy task considering Izuku now had a teleporter. This also had the unwanted effect of making Bakugo even angrier with Izuku. Izuku just sighed at the memory before returning to his book to wait out the rest of the test.

Meanwhile back in Knox his workshop. Knox smiled under his mask. He knew his student was bright, but it didn't hurt to get to see him complete the test hours before everyone else. He was about to return to his own work as he had some time before the practical when he sensed a presence in his workshop. A presence that hadn't been there a second before. However, he had sensed no magic or release of energy, it was as if the being had just appeared out of the ether.

Knox started to walk off only to spin around swinging his sword as it materialized in his hand only to be shocked when it was blocked by a bamboo pole.

“Relax Knox if I wanted you dead you would be dead. I'm here for other reasons.” A man with a tall wide build with an unnaturally large purple arm even for this world of quirks said casually as he leaned against the worktable behind him.

“Who are you and how do you know my name?” Knox asked as the slits on his mask narrowed to glare at the intruder.

“I am Wrecker and as to how I know your name is a bit complicated let's just say I'm an interested third party in your apprentice's story. Someone who knows where it's going and knows that things are not going to work out as you hope. Now that being said what I'm able to tell you is limited due to rules I have to follow. Hell, me just being here is pushing those rules. So, let's just say my hands are more or less tied. However, I want to see this have a more favorable outcome so I'm going to give this a small nudge in the right direction. Now do keep in mind like I said earlier I am bound by certain rules, and I cannot provide much more assistance than what I have already.” the man said setting down his staff. Then with his normal arm offered knocks a simple business card that read. ‘Cats Paws, herbs and teas’

The card was for a business not too far from where Knox lived. Knox looked up at him with a suspicious glare.

“And this is supposed to help me how?” Knox asked not yet trusting the man.

“I've told you already my hands are tied beyond this point. However, I will give you this one exemption. It's not going to help you that much it will however be of great help to Izuku. Aaannd with that said I truly have overstayed my welcome. Do not expect to hear from me again anytime soon for I have far overplayed my hand this time.” As the man said this, he picked up his staff and walked out vanishing as soon as he stepped through the door.

No longer able to sense the man Nox glared at the card he had met Zelor himself and knew the power and presence of a god he had even fought a few demigods. However, that man wrecker was something else. Not quite a god but a being on a similar level and definitely not of this world Nox flipped the card over to look at the back.

'Bring something for trade.' Was written on the back this only increased Nox’s curiosity Nox glanced over to the lenses monitoring Izuku. He was scribbling away in one of his notebooks. Nox had a little over an hour tell the practical exam he’d have to make his trip quick. He sent some Noxine to scout ahead while Nox himself got ready. He wasn’t going into this unprepared. He didn’t know or trust this Wrecker but if there was a chance, he was telling the truth. Well, Nox wasn’t taking any chances.

He pulled on his latest armor before stepping in front of a mirror to check it. Izuku had claimed he looked like a knight themed suit of Ironman armor. Before having to explain to him what Ironman was. Now all Nox needed was a disguise as he looked too much like a hero and not enough like a citizen. Nox wrapped himself in more bandages covering as much of his armor as he could. Now he looked like a slightly buffer version of himself. He just sighed he didn’t have time for this, he needed to hurry. He’d already wasted twenty minutes. He grabbed the first articles of clothing that he remotely liked. These were a blue Hawaiian shirt and brown cargo pants. The pants because he liked the pockets and the shirt for the color, and the fact that he could wear it open chested as he just didn't like covering up his core. Plus, he only needed to pass as a civilian for a few minutes so it would have to do. He grabbed a fully charged quartz orb of wakfu before teleporting away.

After a short flight, he teleported into an alleyway before walking out normally. He looked down at the card and then to the store in question. It looked like a simple if not small herb and tea shop. He doubted anyone would even notice it if they weren’t looking for it…. No, even then they would have a hard time. The building was hidden by a disillusion spell meaning that any normal person couldn’t see it even if they were looking for it, they would just walk right by it. This had Nox even more on edge. Magic was next to nonexistent in this world. This shop was only the second time he’d encountered it since coming here. He wanted to materialize his sword, but he couldn’t, yet. He took a deep breath to try and calm his nerves, he needed to be ready to walk into a trap or whatever this was.

Nox opened the door ready for just about anything and he would be lying if he said it wasn’t disappointing. The walls were lined with labeled drawers’ cabinets and jars. It was just, a normal shop a cramped little shop barely five feet wider than the door he had come through leading back twenty feet to a counter. Where a bored cat girl who, judging by the drool on the counter had been napping before he came in.

Blair was trying to shake off the haze of sleep. She had a customer and she.

'Shit! What’s up with this guy?!'

She was fully awake now. She had at first assumed he was a customer but the moment she had got a good look at him he'd put her fur on edge. Her first thought was clockwork but with the gaudy outfit, her second thought was that he could be a hunter. However, as he started to approach her, she was desperately hoping he was just a none human with a poor fashion sense. Regardless she quickly grabbed her wand under the counter activating all her wards traps and the ever handy truth spell.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

"Nayn welcome to the cat’s paws herbs and teas what can I do for you sir?"

"You can tell me why an omnipotent being broke into my home to give me your business card?" Nox said before the eyes in his mask narrowed into slits. He quickly located the source of the truth spell before causing the small cat statue above the counter the spell was carved into to explode. Without Nox even needing to cast a spell.

"Well now that that nuisance has been removed... I had planned to be more subtle about this but yes that's why I'm here.” Nox said, placing the card on the counter while his sword materialized in his other hand. All subtlety having been thrown out the window by the truth spell.

"I um what weight what are you talking about?!? And you are paying for that!" She said in shock.

"No, I don't pay for others stupidity. A man with a giant purple arm suddenly appeared in my workshop past all my defense's and left just as easily. I have had the great misfortune of meeting deities before and while not quite a god he was a being of equal power and authority. He gave me a cryptic message about how he wasn't supposed to be helping me then gave me your card and left." Nox said in annoyance.

"I remember a man with a purple arm he came in earlier to look at a few beginner magic books took a card then left. He was a little odd I didn't sense any magic from him but as he managed to find my shop, I didn't think anything of it. As for the whole deity’s thing, I got no clue about that I'm just a cat trying to make ends meet."

Her last comment got Nox to pause for a moment. "I'm sorry did you just refer to yourself as a cat?"

"Yes." then with a poof the girl turned into a cat wearing her hat sitting on the counter.

"I’m a cat I was born a kitten I was raised by a momma cat may she rest in peace. I was just born with nine souls I.E. nine lives. Though I'm down to seven now and with those life's came a unique talent for magic. Now with that said I'd really rather like to lose my seventh life to old age so would you please put the sword away." She said giving him a look that screamed not amused feline her statement having taken the wind out of Nox's sails.

Nox reached up to rub the bridge of his nose in annoyance before remembering he was wearing a mask.

Nox squelched the urge to let out a groan and dispelled his sword before saying. “I will apologize for threatening you. Though I will not apologize for my caution I have only had one encounter with another magic user since arriving in this world and he was nowhere near as friendly as you. Then some deity shows up in my home from out of nowhere So as you can imagine I'm more than a little on edge. It doesn't help that my student is, or we'll be shortly taking part in an exam to decide his future.”

Blair sighed in resignation and with a flick of her tail a broom started to sweep up what was left of the cat statue. "Ok so let me get this straight. I'm guessing you came here expecting a fight or something right?"

"Yes, as you are only the second magic user, I've in countered, I had assumed you had some ties with that hunter that had attacked me." Nox said levitating a few inches up off the ground his armor was heavy and his legs weren't as functional as his arms and had started to ache. Well as little as they could he didn't have much of a nerve system left to feel the pain with.

"Only as little as I can get away with. The hunters are supposed to keep magic out of the public eye even though it's hardly needed anymore as most of us can blend in with modern day quirk users. A bunch of backwards thinking hypocrites if you ask me but unfortunately, they are the closest thing we in the magic community got to heroes." Blair said stretching lazily.

"So there some form of law enforcement?" Nox questioned.

"Oh hell no they're more like self appointed vigilantes. They have no jurisdiction or governing body backing them. The only authority they have is what they take by force and the group in Japan are particularly violent. You're very lucky to be alive, especially with your resemblance to a clockwork." she said glancing over at him suspiciously.

"Ah yes, the hunter kept calling me that despite informing him I'm a time mage. Also known as a Xelor and while I'm a bit more mechanical then most Xelor parts of me are still human." Nox said while Blair's gaze softened.

"So, any clue why the guy with a purple arm broke into your home just to give you, my card? like did he tell you anything about why he was there?" She said hopping off the counter and changing into her human form.

"Sort of he gave me a vague and cryptic message about how he was an interested third party in my student's story and that it wasn't going to end how I hoped. He wanted to give things a nudge in the right direction and gave me your card before explaining that he wasn't allowed to interfere anymore and left." Nox sighed sounding like in Blair's opinion like a man who desperately needed a drink.

"Well, if my memory serves me correctly the man with a purple arm came in asking to look at beginner spell books. Nothing too advanced but there might be something in one of them you and your student can use." Blair offered going behind her shop counter to fetch the books and just as Blair had said the books were just that. A beginner guide to magic, a book on magic theory a book of basic spells a book on basic elemental magic a book about the crafting and designing of magic tools as well as a beginners guide to alchemy and its uses in magic.

"I'm a Xelor my knowledge is limited to Xelor magic and a few basic spells, but these all contain a large number of spells with high utility and versatility. Izuku's a very clever and resourceful boy, even one of these books in his hands would be a veritable arsenal." Nox said flipping through one of the books.

"That's a bit of an exaggeration don’t you think?" Blare said giving Nox an odd look.

"Hardly, in fact, it might even be underestimating the boy. He does have a surprising habit of distorting any and all expectation this world has placed on him." Nox said proudly.

"Come on what is he some prodigy or something?" Blare said in confusion managing to get a chuckle out of Nox. It was a deep harsh bark of a laugh that both looked and sounded unnatural in contrast to his mechanical form.

"I'm sorry but it was so, just so absurd I couldn't help but laugh. No Izuku Midoriya is as far from a prodigy as you can get without being incompetent."

"What then why have him if he's that hopeless?" Blare asked completely baffled at this point.

"The boy is many things but hopeless is not one of them but to clarify in more detail. What I meant was that boy has only known suffering at the hands of this world. Prodigy, gifted, or even talented implies he had received some form of boon from this cruel world. No, quite the opposite he has had to work harder than everyone else to get where he is now." Nox said with clear pride in his student while Blair's mouth went dry at his wording.

"What do you mean he suffered?"

"I won't lie and say his life was nothing but hardships, but the boys had it far harder than most he was born I believe the word is quirkless and as you can imagine probably better than most just how cruel people can be to those who are different. Then for fourteen years, they tore him down in just about every way they could, including physical and psychological abuse. One particular violent one has proven to be particularly problematic." Nox said and with a gesture, a Noxine landed on the shop's counter startling blare for half a second before her blood ran cold when it played its recording.

"If you really want to be a hero so bad then you should take a swan dive off the roof and hope for a quirk in your next life."

"That-he he had to live all his life dealing with people like that!? his whole life?" Blare asked in shock only getting a nod of confirmation from Nox. With a gesture, Nox opened the shop’s door levitating his quartz viewing orb into the shop followed by a few Noxine.

“That was the case till about a year ago when he stumbled into a hunter’s trap. Simply because the hunter had forgotten or just didn't care to account for the quirkless. Either way, a scrawny quirkless magicless boy stumbled into the trap and found himself caught up in our battle." As Nox said this, an image of Izuku from the day he met Nox appeared on the lens. Blare looked at the image, her worry evident. To her, he looked like a simple wend spell would be enough to send him sprawling.

"The hunter had used a magic dampening dimensional barrier to trap magic users making his own private hunting ground. Where he was hunting me when Izuku found us. Not knowing what was going on he assumed it was a hero and villain fight and got dragged into the whole mess. My teleporter was damaged but was able to get the both of us out of there. Unfortunately, I couldn't get us out of the barrier, and with my magic suppressed there wasn't much I could do. Unlike the hunter who was a walking arsenal. I don't even know if the barrier affected him like it did me, he didn't take us serious tell it was too late. However, we've now got to the best part of this story after learning that Izuku was quirkless I theorized that he could pass through the barrier and escape. It turned out my theory was correct however I underestimated the boy's heroic nature. Shortly after escaping he reentered the barrier only a short distance from where he exited. Then, believe it or not, he came into contact with a shushu the hunter had dropped of all things.” As Knox said this Blare gasped covering her mouth, she had been fortunate enough never to run afoul of a shushu but she had heard enough to know that they were nothing she ever wanted to mess with.

“The demon managed to trick the boy into picking him up and it went about as well as you can expect. The demon took control puppeting his body and looked for an opportunity to strike and try and possess a stronger form. According to both Izuku and the demon, it would have happily let me leave if I won. As its quarrel was with the hunter that had kept it not me. However, with my magic weekend, and unable to access the majority of my equipment on top of being already in a badly damaged state. I was not able to put up as much of a fight as I would have hoped. Now just as the hunter was about to strike me down the boy struck. I still have a hard time believing it and I was there but again it would seem the demon had also underestimated the boy’s heroic nature. For when the hunter went to finish me off Izuku not only gained control but forced his own will onto the demon. Untrained and untaught he completely subdued the demon and took its power for his own. Reforging the demon into a weapon in his own image. He then turned that weapon on the hunter, saving my sorry life in the process. The battle that followed was shockingly one sided as the boy proceeded to thrash the hunter thoroughly. Before ending the fight by slicing through a large chunk of the dimensional barrier. I've done the math, and I still can't figure out how he did it neither he nor the demon had the power to do so. Even combined they would still only make up less than half of the energy needed to fulfill such insane feats but regardless he did. Untrained, ungifted, and having absolutely no idea what he was doing, the boy managed not only to fight off the hunter but save my sorry hide. I had to admit I was intrigued, so I started looking in on him and saw how the world tried repeatedly, again and again, to tear him down. Yet even at his lowest when most men would have been broken. He not only chose the more difficult path of becoming my apprentice but instead of choosing vengeance or selfish self indulgent. He chose to take the skills I taught him and applyed for a hero school of all things. A gentle soul, a hero's heart, and the uncanny ability to surpass all expectations placed on him. Give him an inch and he'll carve you a mile that’s Izuku Midoriya in a nutshell.” Knox said fondly while Blair looked down at the proud beaming face of the green haired boy who was far stronger than he had any right to be.

“Now with that being said I would like to discuss a form of payment for these books. You see I have not been here very long and do not have much in this world's form of currency I do however have something to trade should it prove inefficient I can offer various services.” Knox said while Blair gave him a very unamused glare.

“I run a magic shop, not a pawn shop so unless it's a magical artifact or some valuable reagent I can't promise you that I can accept it.” Blair said sternly well Knox pulled out a charged quartz orb.

“Holy crap where did you get a mana Crystal that big?” Blair said in shock reaching out to touch the crystal only to yank her hand back her eyes glowing from the contact.

“Or find one that powerful.”

“I didn't find it I made it this is not a mana crystal it's more a battery of quartz artificially charged with energy. Though I assume they can more or less fulfill the same roles as these crystals you speak of.” Knox said offering the orb to Blair.

“Well, most of the time mana crystals are used either as power sources or if they have an elemental aspect as a focus or component of a magical object or artifacts.” She said quickly putting it away mere contact with the thing was making her jittery with the sheer amount of mana the orb held.

“Hmmm, I've never thought to directly imbue a magical aspect into one of the orbs. Hmm, I do not know if that is possible however I have successfully used the orbs as power sources for many of my machines in fact each of my noxins uses a far less effective version.” Knox pondered as one of the drones spread its wings to reveal the core within.

“Wow well if you can remove that limitation this should fetch us a huge price on the market. Heck, one that powerful even a quarter of its size would be more than enough to buy my entire shop! I'll carve it up and we'll sell it off bit by bit. Even if I only take a seller's fee that should be more than enough to pay off my loans from starting up my shop and put a sizable nest egg away.” Blair said cheerfully.

“No! You cannot fracture the orb it becomes highly unstable when damaged and explosive when broken.” Knox warned Blair.

“What but I guess that does diminish the value. I'm going to need to get this properly appraised then but even with those issues, I can honestly say with the sheer amount of mana stored in this one orb alone will still net you quite a tidy profit. I'm afraid to say though that's far too much for me to buy off of you. You could take my entire shop as collateral, and I still fear I'd owe you a great amount of money.” Blair said worriedly.

“In that case how about a pay as you go agreement. I will let you keep this orb in exchange for the books and your services in the future as both a financial partner and fellow mage. Also, since I have no way of making contact with the magical community of this world, I would like an introduction. You can consider this part of the payment if you like. I will not ask you to do anything drastic or put yourself out for me. I'd be more than satisfied with a simple introduction to somewhere where I can meet other magic users.” Knox offered and Blair felt like she was making a deal with the devil, but it was one that was just simply too good to refuse.

“All right, but I'm adding the condition that we claim no direct affiliation with the introduction as a paid service. I'm not going to say I’m not curious about you in this student of yours but if you end up pissing off the entire magical community in Japan or something. I don't want that axe on my head so until we get to know each other a bit better our relationship is as client and provider. I'll let you take a look at the other magic books I have in stock though they aren't much compared to those there. Where those are introductory guides, the others are beginner guides. Tips and tricks to improve upon along with some basic spells. I'm sorry to say this but I'm a small shop in a land with a very small magic community. If you want something more powerful, you're going to have to look elsewhere. Next, I will retain the full right to deny services rendered if you request anything that I morally or otherwise object against. Lastly, while I'm letting you take these books as a down payment. Once I have the orb appraised a contract will be written out and an amount for each service rendered will be assigned and placed towards paying off the amount owed. At any time if I can get the money together, I can buy my way out.”

“Paranoid little Kitty cat aren't we but fair enough. I can understand wanting to make sure you aren't hitching your carriage to the wrong dragon turkey and can respect that. And understand that you want a way out if things don't turn out well. So be it I will accept your terms they are more favorable to me than they are to you anyway. I can make more of those orbs easy enough so regardless I lose relatively little and gain a large amount. So, you trying to make this arrangement more favorable for you only makes sense and if I’m being honest only raises your value to me more.” Nox said to Blares utter shock. She had been expecting negotiations or backlash. She didn't know a lot about this man, but he was clearly powerful and used to getting his way one way or another.

‘Is this really such a favorable deal for him that? He is willing to acquiesce to my demands that easily? Why would he be willing to help?’ Blare couldn’t help but wonder.

“Oh, look at the time I got so distracted by our little chat I nearly you missed the start of the physical exam. Would you care to watch it with me?” Nox offered as the lenses around the orb shifted to display the UA auditorium.

Izuku was looking around watching the other examinees file in one after the other. Most were confused as to how he had beaten them there as they were sure they would be one of the first to finish only to find Izuku waiting for them. However, it wasn't much longer after the first few started to show up that the rest of the student body started to pour in. Knox and Blair only managed to tune in a few seconds before the announcer started. A blond haired man with a speaker neck brace and leather outfit walked up on stage as the lights in the auditorium dimmed.

“What's up U.A. candidates I'll be your announcer for today’s events. Present Mic! Now let me hear you?” Mike shouted boisterously only to get silence in response and a confused look from Nox who had no clue what he was watching.

“Keeping quiet huh. Well now like your application says after this all of you'll be rocking out in one of our urban training centers listed on the cards you're given.” Present Mic said giving them all a chance to look down at their cards.

“Um is there something wrong with him?” Nox asked Blair.

“No that's just his thing. His powers work’s around his voice. Also, he plays up the whole radio host roll thing as a gimmick.” Blair said waving off Nox's concerns.

“OK, now that you've all had a chance to look at those can I get your attention, please? I still have a lot to tell you. In each stage, there will be three types of foe villains. Each is worth a different value related to their level of difficulty. Now with that being said the objective is pretty simple. Your job is to defeat as many foe villains as possible to earn points. Keep in mind we will be watching so no attacking other contestants or kill stealing from someone as the points will be awarded to their rightful owner. Along with a chance for you to be disqualified but yeah other than that it's pretty simple. Earn the points beat the baddies and prove you have what takes to fight the bad guys and save the day.” Present Mic said boisterously only to be interrupted by a tall blue haired boy.

“Excuse me Sir I have a question!?”

Mike pointed to him and said. “let's hear what you got little listener.”

“On the printout, you listed four foe villains, not three if this is an error it is downright shameful. We are exemplary students we expect better from U.A. the best hero school in Japan. Also, you can you cease that incessant muttering.” The blue haired boy said turning to point at Izuku. Who looked up in surprise but before he could attempt to apologize, or Knox could consider teleporting a large heavy object onto his head he was interrupted by Rubilax.

“Hey Jack ass it helps him think and he doesn’t even know he's doing it!”

“Well, I who?” Before either could finish, he was again interrupted by Present Mic.

“Hey, hey, dial it back a little, little listeners.” Present Mic said, trying to stop the two's argument.

“To answer your question the fourth bot is worth zero points. It's more an obstacle meant to be avoided than an actual opponent to be dealt with. You can fight it if you like but there's kind of no point.” Mic said the display behind him changing to match his words.

“Hmmm well that's interesting enough But is this truly a good test of heroism it seems,,, lacking. I can understand you need to test the children's physical aptitude and ability to control and use their powers, but I have yet to see anything that tests their morality sense of justice or anything of the such really.” Nox wondered aloud.

“I think it's more along the lines of weeding out those that can't keep up. They also offer tournaments throughout the next several years for those who improve. To maybe earn a chance, but I think the whole seeing if they have what it takes to be a hero thing is done while they're actually in school.” Blare said with a shrug.

“Hmm still seems inefficient to me.” Nox said watching as the students filed out into their testing grounds.

“Inefficient or not I'm going to go make some popcorn real quick. Let me know when the real shows about to start.” Blair said hopping over her counter and heading to a small almost concealed stairwell next to one of the herbal shelves. Knox turned around to fetch the orb but when he turned back, he was mildly surprised when he no longer saw the stairs. However, a quick check with his mask lenses allowed him to see the illusionary barrier hiding the entrance. To say the stairs were a tight fit was a bit of an understatement. His enlarged armor he had worn for the perceived fight barely allowed him to fit. Well, that was if he couldn't just teleport. Through once he saw where the stairs ended, he flickered and was there much to Blair's great shock and distress.

“Daaaah don’t do that!” Blair growled at him.

“I assumed I was supposed to follow. It's rather rude to leave a guest alone in your shop like that. I closed up your shop for you by the way.” Nox said moving towards the room's sitting area to set up the crystal monitor. Blair just huffed at him before going back to making her snacks and looking him over.

“Do you want any popcorn, or anything I guess?” She sighed.

“No, sadly the unique circumstances of my current form leave me limited in certain categories. That is unfortunately one of them. Though recently I found that I can enjoy tea though only the taste of it, unfortunately.” Nox said as he looked down at the orb to check his progress, Izuku was currently on some bus probably heading to the testing ground. He hadn’t noticed Blair had put a kettle of tea on for him with just a wave of her hand and a little magic.

“Bring your weird scrying orb thing over to the couch will you.” She said as she poured some popcorn into a bowl and walking over to the couch Knox levitated the orb over. Once Blair found the right lens she set to work and within a few minutes, she had cast a spell on it that worked like a projector at a movie theater. The lens on the devices was required to magnify and display the image so Nox couldn't have it projected without it. Whatever she had done had mirrored the image onto the ceiling and then flipped it, so it was the right way around.

She finished just in time as Judging by the fact Izuku was currently hooking up his gauntlets for the test. As the two settled down to watch the exam Nox was pleasantly surprised when a pot of tea and a cup was levitated over to him.

Once Izuku had them on, he put Rubilax into the case where he had been storing his gauntlets before handing it off to some sort of automaton or robot. Nox wondered if the shushu could take over the machine though he doubted it. He was however thankful that Izuku wasn't taking any chances.

“Hey Nox, why the hell does your student have a demon blade?” Blair asked glaring over at him. Nox just simply shrugged before elaborating.

“Rubilax is not a demon blade though I do see where your confusion comes from. He is a shushu a type of demon that can be sealed within an object to create a useful or powerful magical artifact. Unlike demon blades where the demon is actually forged into the blade itself, Rubilax can be freed without destroying the weapon. This also means he has a much easier time possessing his wielders. That is not a problem for Izuku, however as I stated before the first time, I met him he broke free of that very demon’s control. Now he wields it as a simple tool in his arsenal one that much to my own amusement is actually being corrupted by the boy's good nature.” Nox chuckled while Blair nearly choked on her popcorn.

“Whoa whoa whoa you're telling me that this kid is so good that he's corrupting a demon instead of the other way around!?!” Blair said absolutely shocked. When Knox simply nodded her eyes returned hesitantly to the plain face of the young boy. How anything that plain and innocent could be that powerful was beyond her. She guessed you really couldn't judge a book by its cover. Though she had to smirk when the blue haired boy from earlier tried to confront him again.

Halfway through the tirade they had been interrupted by an announcement from that present my character and Izuku had teleported away the moment the doors had opened to the confusement of the group. That was until Present Mic announced the test had already begun and they needed to hurry up the entire testing body rushed after him. Meanwhile, Izuko was already halfway across the city magically ripping his way through robots.

He didn't want to take all the robots and leave the other students without any, but he also wanted a good score for himself. So, he rapidly targeted the three-point robots as they were both the most dangerous and worth the most. Even with the handicap, he wasn’t in a hurry he could teleport, and time was literally on his side. As while he couldn't fully stop it like his mentor at least not yet, but he could slow it down. So, from an outsider's perspective. Izuku was a green blur that rushed through the testing ground destroying three pointers with energy blasts and the occasional magically charged punch. Once he hit sixty points, he stopped using time dilation that and he was already down to forty percent of his total energy capacity he needed time to recharge.

Izuku had done his research before the exams and came to a rough estimate. He needed somewhere between sixty and eighty minimum to pass. He had based it on the total number of students applying and keeping in mind the usual class size and that there were only two classes he was leaning closer to the seventy range minimum for his estimate. Especially when students started calling out their own points as if boasting. Most were already in their thirties so he figured he was well enough along, but it wouldn't hurt to try and grab some more points. Sticking to his three pointers targets he continued his hunt but now slow and steady, was the name of the game. He was trying to preserve power when he hit ninety he dropped the three pointers rule and started going after anything he saw. There wasn't much longer on the test left anyway and he was already back up to sixty five percent power. He figured he'd blow as much of that energy as he could. As if in reply to his thoughts the ground shook and a massive robot rose from the ground.

“Ohh so that's why the zero pointer was an obstacle? Yeah, I don't know if a lot of students can handle that.” Izuku blinked his hand shooting to his side in panic. only to remember why Rubilax wasn't there.

“I've definitely been spending too much time with that demon. I’m honestly starting to get used to our little back and forth aaand now I'm talking to myself out loud. Whatever I should probably go check that thing out.” Izuku said before teleporting away. Unfortunately, he had traveled a fair distance away from where the zero pointer had shown up. Even Knox couldn't teleport that far without some form of a relay. Though his range was far further than Izuku’s. Three jumps by the time he reached it he had already dropped back down to fifty two percent. He frowned seeing the destruction in front of him, but his eyes went wide. As he saw the building next to the zero pointer as it started to collapse but the surprising part was not the collapsing building. But the blue haired boy who had yelled at him earlier rushing at super speed to try and rescue the brown haired nice girl who had helped him at the entranceway.

Izuku panicked his hands shot down forming the complicated hand gesture his master had used whenever he had stopped time. His magic supply plummeted down to a whopping twenty one percent as the world ground to a halt. He teleported down to the street grabbed the blue haired boy and teleported him away then back and grabbed the nice girl he even stopped to heal her leg. There were a few other students while not in the path of the collapsing building, they still were in range of the shrapnel and debris. By the time he had moved them out of the buildings path his time stop come to an end.

Five percent.

He teleported in front of the zero pointer. Eye level with the robot Izuku didn't know what was going on in the control room but he doubted dropping a building on participants was part of the test. The people he helped looked on in shock and confusion from the building rooftop where he had left them. Izuku raised his arm, his battery was about depleted, and he didn't have enough magic by himself without risking the zero pointers survival.

He reached out for his connection to Rubilax, and his dagger form teleported into Izuku’s hand with a green flash. Rubilax's eye shifted from black to green as he morphed into Izuku’s sword the green energy blade forming with a flash. Izuku grabbed the hilt of the sword with his other hand and swung down as the blade extended. With a single swing, Izuku cut the Titanic robot down the middle.

Zero percent.

Only for the blade to flicker out as soon as he finished and he fell out of the air. Izuku struggled not to pass out as he pulled from his already depleted internal reserves as well as whatever he could in from the air around him. He managed to activate his teleporter and switch his gravity orientation so that when he landed on the roof with the other contestants, he rolled across it instead of splatting on it.

Meanwhile, Rubilax managed to wedge the blade of his dagger form into the gravel of the roof and groaned “Ooooow ohh I thought we were done with this suzuku! Stop using me as a damn battery!”

“Yeah, yeah sorry about that Rubie but I needed the extra power.” Izuku groaned before blacking out, not a second before the alarm went off announcing the end of the practical exam. Nox couldn't help but smirk at his student's actions while Blair's jaw dropped. She could count on one hand the number of mages she knew personally who could pull off anything like that sword move and it would take a full mana pull to do it. Not whatever that kid was running on after the exam.

“Wow you really weren't kidding that kid is something else.”

“Yes, yes, I know he is, and he'll be something far more impressive once he's properly trained. After all, there's only so much you can learn in one year.” Knox had to fight the urge to chuckle at Blair's expression he could all but hear the record scratch in her head when he said that.

“Wait you mean to tell me that kid has only been training with magic for a year?!” She asked in absolute shock.

“Yes, well it's like I said if you give the boy an inch, he'll carve you a mile.” With those ominous words Nox and all he had brought with him, but the quartz orb he left with a flicker. Leaving Blair alone with her thoughts as she wondered what kind of crazy shit show she had signed on to.

Wrecker picks up his staff pausing time to focus his attention to the reader. “Hey so I don't know if any of you read my other stories but yes, I do show up in them often. Though usually more as a background character. An influencer someone watching from the shadows for this one time I decided to be a little more forward but don't get used to that. Like I said in the story my OC appearing in stories are not going to be deus ex machina. They're not going to be miracle workers they are basically going to be just offering a better solution from time to time to move the story along a certain path and yes there is actually a plot to this believe it or not. Yes, it's spread out through most of my stories I actually started doing this as far back as first works as terrible as that story is. And yes I do intend to go back to it finish the first book and then do a full rewrite but for the time being I'm going to try and keep up my biweekly post schedule. For as long as I can. As for this story, what did you all think of Blair? I liked the idea of Blair's character from Soul Eater a lot and I wish she got a more story driven approach than what she got in Soul Eater. So, I'm looking to take a crack at the Blair I wanted to see in this. Also, on that note, the Izuku in this story is going to be very different from the Izuku in my other stories. This is mostly due to the fact I have to balance multiple main characters in the other Stories. In this one, I don't have it as bad and I also have a personal demon who's whispering plot ideas in my head in the form of my friend Steam. I don't think a lot of those ideas would work for my other stories but this one's a bit more free form so I could play around with that. Anyway as per usual any comments suggestions and so on would be really appreciated if you have any questions you'd like for me to answer in my Q&A's story time with the Q&A below or go over to the storage page or my discord and with that said this is wrecker signing off.”)
