Rebirth

"Pack up, ten minutes left before class ends."

I did as the teacher told, and started packing my utensils, ready to finally go home.

'No work today. Guess I should buy some groceries on the way back.'

As I was done packing up, I looked at the time displayed on the classroom wall.

5:22

Eight more minutes...

Disappointed I sighed, hoping time would just move a tiny bit faster for me. Closing my eyes, I let my mind wander.

Memories started flooding in uncontrollably, like a tsunami. Memories of the day my parents left me all alone, the disgusted look in their eyes as they looked down on me as if I were worthless trash.

''I wish I had never given birth to you.'

''Why can't you be like him.''

Those words rang in my mind again and again on replay. Just what did I do wrong? No matter how hard I tried, I was never able to come up with an answer as to why they treated me that way.

Sighing once more, I calmed my beating heart down.

'You think I would get used to this by now.'

Hoping to find something to distract me from my thoughts, I look once more at the time.

5:25

Is it just me, or is time moving slower than usual today?

Biting back the urge to curse, I looked out the window to my left. And what I saw made my mood go from bad to worse. Visible black dots could be spotted on the ground, at first there were only a couple, then a dozen, and then...

It started pouring...

...

What the hell is with my luck today?

They say God loves all humans equally?

Bullshit! Bullshit I must say!

If there was really a god out there somewhere, then this 'god' must not love me. Everything that has happened to me up until this very moment is proof of that. But well, why would God love me if my parents did not.

''Tch,'' I unintentionally let out.

''What?'' A familiar, grumpy voice said from beside me. I turned my head towards the voice, and sure enough, there she was, my...colleague and classmate. Pale white skin, shoulder-length black hair, and a pair of sharp black eyes that were currently glaring daggers at me.

What a waste, she would look quite cute if she was not always so grumpy.

I opened my mouth to speak but stopped as I saw a distant pair of eyes staring directly at me. Turning, I met his eyes. he smiled. I frowned. What did he do this time...?

Ever since I got into high school, he had messed with me countless times. I could still clearly remember the time he flattened my bike wheel, and I had to walk home. Anger flared in my heart, but I kept a calm expression, not wanting to show him what he wanted to see.

''You deaf?'' My colleague asked anger obvious in her tone.

''Yes,'' I answered simply.

''You—''

*DING DONG*

''Finally—Huh?''

The whole classroom suddenly erupted into blinding white light, then...

...everything vanished. Nothing remained—no students, no teacher, no furniture. There was simply nothing except for this glowing white space that seemed to have no end. Panic rose to my stomach, and blood pounded against my eardrums. My eyes darted left and right, hoping to find anything other than the color white. Yet the color white was all that I saw.

''Hah...I must be dreaming.'' I whispered, feeling hopeless.

I sighed, sat on the cold white floor, and tried assessing this ridiculous situation. My clarity slowly returning.

'No point in panicking further. Not like I can do anything right now other than sit and relax. Whatever this phenomenon is, it isn't really doing anything to me at the moment. I also can't call anyone for help since my bag disappeared with my phone in it. All I have right now is my life and my uniform...'

So basically, if this situation is really happening right now and is not some stupid nightmare...

...I die.

''...''

I closed my eyes and accepted my fate. It does not feel like this is a dream, no matter how hard it was to believe that fact. ''Looks like I am going to die here...''

Yet I was neither sad nor happy. I simply felt empty, and it was comfortable in a sense. Every day, wake up, eat, school, work, eat, and sleep. Repeating the same thing day after day for years. It was boring, so tired of it. There was no meaning to life. No reason to live...

''I wish you had died.''

''Why were you even born?''

I smiled. ''Guess, you guys were right.'' I said lethargically. Suddenly feeling extremely sluggish. My body becoming incorporeal. I did not understand what was happening to me, but I knew I did not have long.

'I guess I am dying sooner than I thought.'

''I wonder if she's okay...that grumpy idiot...but knowing her, I am sure she's fine...Haha...'' I paused and uttered my last words with nostalgia ''Thank you.''

Everything became dark as I fell into the cold embrace of death.

'This one might not make it.''

''His spirit is far too weak.''

''I know humans are weak, but this one is just plain trash.''

''Let fate decides, we won't tamper with this one. Even if he makes It, I doubt he'd survive long without us.''

''Help!''

I thought I had died? Or maybe I have yet to die?

The same muffled voice kept calling out for help. I tried to open my eyes, to open my mouth, but I wasn't able to. There was nothing but utter darkness before me. The voice became more and more clear. The voice came from a women, she sounded weak, tired, and hopeless. She needed help. I knew that. Yet there was nothing that I could do at the moment.

I simply waited and listened to the woman's agonizing voice that continuously pleaded for help. My urge to help the women grew second by second until...

I saw light, and the woman's voice ceased. I seemed to be moving toward that light, like some unknown force was pulling me toward it. I did not resist. It's not like I could, even if I tried.

The light became brighter and brighter as I neared it. When I finally reached it...

Immediately, an earthy smell attacked my nostrils. A palpable moisture could be felt on my skin. Wait...? My body is back!

Opening my eyes, I gasped at what I saw. Tall trees loomed high above, blocking out the sky entirely. Glowing golden dots darted all around me like fireflies. It was beautiful.

A dry cough brought me back to my senses. My head moved slowly to the left. A woman who looked to be in her early thirties was lying beside me. She had long nut brown hair and bright golden eyes that seemed to glow under the thick shadows cast by the tall trees. She was beautiful. Any man that laid eyes on her would be put into a trance by her beauty. But as beautiful as she was, right now she was pale as a ghost, her lips were dry, her breathing was quick, and she seemed to be sweating profusely.

I opened my mouth to speak, but what came out was...

''Wahh!''

'Huh?'

I lifted my hands up, and what I saw confirmed my suspicion.

'Shit! Did I just come out of this woman?!"
