Fortunate or Unfortunate?

Fortunate or Unfortunate?

Clop.. Clop.. Clop..  A heavy set, average height male with greasy black hair and oversized clothes was exiting his part-time job.

John trudged down the dimly lit streets, dampened by the rain. His mind consumed with worries about his financial situation. He needed a way to pay his tuition, and this sh*tty job wasn't cutting it. Working at 7/11 was a far cry from his dreams of being a successful businessman, and the long hours and meager pay only added to his frustration. He was struggling to make ends meet and was barely able to afford the rent for his small apartment near the college where he was still trying to finish his degree.

As he walked, John's thoughts turned to his upcoming exams. He had been so consumed with work and money troubles that he had hardly had any time to study. He was starting to feel overwhelmed and hopeless.

It was then that John remembered the small library in one of the college buildings. He had passed by it many times but had never been inside. He figured he had nothing to lose, so he decided to stop by and see if he could find some books to help him study.

Walking in a trance John didn't seem to realize his surroundings or the very annoying, but familiar, voice calling his name. "john" "John" "JOHN, What's up buddy?" Finally the words broke through to him. Curious on who was calling him, John turned around and saw his "best" friend Jason.  Jason was a tall man, about 6'1, with slightly above average looks, and blonde curly hair that made him resemble a poodle.  He had piercing blue eyes, but right now held a crooked sh*t-eating grin. Jason proceeded to dap up John and then said," F*ck man, you look like Jordan Belfort after a binge, hungover and hungry for money." John didn't appreciate his comedy but replied with," Spare the insults man, I'm here to study." Jason looked at him, and seemed to have lost some excitement to the fun black hole in front of him. Quickly John replied," I'm still up for drinks tomorrow just let me get this studying in for midterms." Seeing that John was still somewhat personable, Jason dapped him up again before leaving.

As John walked into the library, he was struck by the musty smell of old books and the quiet hum of students studying. He made his way over to a bookshelf and started scanning the titles. As he was about to turn and leave, a book caught his eye. It was old and leather-bound, with a strange symbol embossed in gold on the cover.

John pulled the book from the shelf and flipped it open. Inside, he found a letter written in a beautiful, flowing script. The envelope was titled and said," To My Beloved John." Thinking it was a coincidence John hurried to break open the seal and see what the envelope contained on the inside.  Was it a love letter?  No, the only love he got was his left hand. Hmm, maybe it's to another John, not giving the thought anymore judgement he ripped open the letter fully now.

The letter was addressed to "John." It said only three words," You are worthless."

John was livid, his first thought was," How did my Asian parents know I was going to choose this book." He shivered as he thought of his dads reaction to him wanting to do graphic design instead of a more "reputable" career path.

Suddenly, John's thoughts were interrupted by a bright light. John couldn't see anything, for a second he thought he was the next Stevie Wonder. Fortunately, his vision returned back to him, slowly but surely. Now john could see a blue screen in front of his eyes that read...
