Chapter 1. The consequence

“Welcome to the gateways of hell.”

Those were the first word Cain heard when he woke up.

In a seemingly endless space void of anything but a single stream of reddish-blue light he lies awake but unable to move. Suddenly a flash of light so bright blinded him. Streaks of memories of different people crashed inside his mind. Happiness, sadness, pain, love, dreams, kindness, anger—all kind of feelings flew past in an instant. Unable to do anything, Cain grinded his teeth in pain due to the overload. Moments later, which seemed like an eternity, a voice sounded within his mind.

“Your life has passed as a stream of emotions just now. By the power granted unto me by Neshvu, I hereby convict you to suffer in hell for eternity. Your previous life will be forgotten, all of your memories will be erased.”

Cain has so much he wanted to say but was unable to.

He was unable to move, all of his body unable to respond. All he could do was feel apprehensive as his body began distorting into the nothingness. Excruciating pain ran throughout his body as his limbs began to distort into thousand fragments resembling a mosaic. The same happened to his other body parts until only his head remained. With Cain’s consciousness still intact despite the agonizing pain, he cursed the Gods above.

Cain was reborn as a tiny flame. As small as a grain of rice, along with thousand others, he roamed the void while following the stream of reddish-blue light. Cain knew that the other flames are the souls of other people. Souls of those who have sinned greatly and were judged to be sent to hell for eternity.

He had come to accept the fact that he will be left to rot in the excruciating flame of hell for eternity.

Ever since he killed those bastards, he was prepared for the worst to happen. Already resigned to his fate and to the sin which is to be committed along the road he is to take, he marched his army, killing millions of soldiers and civilians alike. He was prepared to become the symbol of devil reincarnate himself. He is more than willing to take all the blame for his country—no, it’s not the country that actually mattered. They held his family hostage and ‘requested’ him to subjugate the barbarian country of the north. He was hesitant but still complied with their demands. For their sake, Cain, the strongest general under the heavens is willing to be branded as mass murderer.

He succeeded in destroying the enemy country but upon return, he was forcefully executed for the nobles and the king himself is afraid of his existence, afraid of the soon bane that is of Cain.

After traveling the void for what seemed like an eternity, a colorful hue of green and indigo appeared at the end of the stream of light. Upon touching the light, Cain was again sucked into an endless void wherein death and rebirth flashed before him. He was rebirthed only to die again. The cycle continued forever and so is the pain that accompanied the dying moments.

Suddenly the cycle stopped. His little flame of a body distorted into thousand particulate embers and formed a vortex of flames in the void. He felt his memories being erased, as well as his past life. Before disappearing into nothingness, he again remembered the words spoken to him by the voice.

“You are judged to suffer in hell for eternity.”

With this, Cain opened himself to the calamity, to the endless pain that awaits him.

“Do to me what you deemed appropriate. I have no regrets in what I have done.”
