Chapter 87: Admist Glass and Blue Blood

Chapter 87: Admist Glass and Blue Blood

Daniel and Kane clashed above, while below more and more things began going wrong.

The Middling on the ground in support of Kane named Frank continued trying to sabotage the recapture of the Shadow Warbler. He did this by attacking the middling Marrin. All was not without hope for the Middling Marrin, however. Daniel could see that Marrin was quite capable now that he fought with his dominate hand, his old eleven blade gleaming in the shadow. Frank was more powerful of the Middlings, but they were still both Middlings. But having two enemies to watch out for was still a disadvantage. Another protentional hazard was Ezra himself. Esra, ever the master of chaos, was less precise than he should have been, and several gravity bullets struck the bystanders. The good news was that meant that Ezra sometimes also struck the Shadow Warbler and Frank. But as Ezra, never one for direct assault, skittered behind different columns, spent the most amount of time 'watching' Marrin's back. Which meant when his shot strayed, it was more likely to hit Daniel's only other ally.

The lack of coordination meant that the shadow warbler was gaining ground.

Removed from the situation with their gravity inversed, Daniel fought off the advance of Kane, his hands stinging as he blocked her strikes. It was clear that she put too much rage into her attacks. It unbalanced her.

"Does it amuse you to mock the less fortunate? Seriously, why are you ruining my life?" Kane yelled, slashing wildly. He evaded, darting behind the pillar on the other side.

Standing upside down on the ceiling, Daniel felt Ezra's ability wobble slightly as the lanky mage below tripped on his own feet.

Daniel wished he had something more he could do. But he didn't. He could just evade. But there was good news.

Kane was capped at a middling's power level.

She was not fighting with her new strength, nor her old prowess of Lordling.

And she was not used to fighting with such weakness.

Stolen story; please report.

But she was still so much stronger than Daniel.

Below, Marrin actually managed a good attack against the warbler and it staggered closer to the trap. If there was only proper teamwork with the fellows on the ground, then the Shadow Warbler would be more easily captured.

"I am not mocking you." Daniel said to Kane, as their blades locked. The Law of Fae was present, watching and witnessing the exchange.

Her eyes softened for just a second.

Then she pushed away, and slashed again. She was gaining her footing. She had less experience fighting with her gravity being altered. Sometimes one was heavier than normal, or lighter, and that could even change as Ezra's focus below changed.

"You were always so good with the words, weren't you." She spat.

Ezra shrieked below "Gravity Wave!!!"

And instead of up, Daniel and Kane's gravity started to pivot and pull and...they started sliding downward toward the wall with the bank of windows. Ceilings of the O'Tells house were solid, stable, steady.

The wall was old, and much of the light was let in giant windows of original stain glass. Not magicked or blessed or spelled. Just...glass. This was the O'Tells old home, and they had always strove to maintain much of the original features.

Daniel had done something like this before, and he slide carefully downward, as the wall became the new floor.

He had to jump abruptly to the left, his instincts screaming.

He could not afford to forget that Kane had fought with Ezra before as well.

She had hung to a column, and waited, until the wall was the new direction, then leapt and attacked from above.

If not for Daniel's extensive training in Griffin form, he would have been done in by the attack.

As it was, he was scrambled and battered; he had to pivot weirdly, and he felt stocks of pain from his ankle. He couldn't control where he landed, and tumbled awkwardly.

Kane was fast upon him, driving him.

Then the debris started falling around them.

Daniel fought to regain his footing, but Kane kept advancing. The absolute anger in her eyes. "Stop playing and fight me!" She said, as the debris started crashing, some inches from them both.

If she was still fighting with her power fully intact, then at least the Law of Fae would have barred her approach.

The debris crashed against a window, and shards of glass splayed out. Kane flinched and jerked her head back. Daniel took that moment to shift away, gaining his feet. Her moment of withdraw had been only a moment, however, and they began clashing anew, amidst the shattered stain glass and the debris.

The fighting below was looking dire. Marrin was getting pinned down. His injury no doubt, and also the sheer terrible nature of the Shadow Warbler.

"GRAVITY WAVE!!!" Ezra called out. But...nothing happened.

That...could mean something good. Or something really really bad.
