Traits and blessings

Traits and blessings

He felt the cold touch of the fog when he walked close to it, it was calling him and he didn't resist. He walked straight into the grey wall and dissapeared. He couldn't see anything that surrounded him. All he could hear was a slow grating sound and the slow beating of his heart.

He looked around searching for Kenny but found nothing except the sharp grey that his eyes were slowly getting used to.

It had been a few minutes, since he was stuck in the grey mist before he saw a small white light before him. It was pulsating, following the rhythm of his own heart. As he got closer to the light the grating became growling and slowly evolved into an ear splitting shriek.

Michael felt a heavy wind strike him on his chest, knocking the air from his chest and leaving him gasping. However, the more he tried to look for air the mist around the fog started filling up his lungs.

He seemed to be in a trance with the mist giving him a semi-euphoric feeling. It seemed to be persuading him to continue and he did, he gave into the feeling and continued filling his lungs with the fog. His lungs became full of it and his chest slowly expanded to create space for the lungs. He felt his bone creaking in protest to the unnatural swelling but he continued. He felt as if he only existed to consume the fog.

His bones broke and his blood dripped from his nose and mouth but he continued.

"Michael, Michael. Wake up, look at yourself. What are you doing to die before you even pass through the fog." The voice. It was weak, a whisper at best and contained no emotion like a machine but that is all he needed. His dying mind grasped at those words and pulled itself back.

He didn't know where he pulled himself back from but he did and when he did, when he was back he found a large figure standing before him in the fog. The figure was large, like a titan. He bearly reached the shin if the creature and that was after he had blotted due to consumption of the fog.

The titan had a silhouette of a man, with dark armour and long black locks of hair. He didn't know how he was able to see it's head, but he did. It only had eyes on it and he couldn't see how they looked since the fog was covering them.

He was about to talk, when he looked at himself. "What am I?" The question slipped past his lips involuntary. He saw himself, with a ethereal form. He was still the same except that he was translucent. He looked downwards and saw his body, which stood still. Unmoving like it had lost a soul. The thought dissapeared as soon as it came he saw the titan look away from the fog and directly onto him.

He finally saw it's eyes, dark but radiant. They seemed to be filled with stars. The titan didn't move it's gaze, as if waiting for him to move or talk or do anything that would verify his existence. A few minutes or hours passed, Michael had no way to measure time. It once again moved to look away to the fog and after a few moments the titan let out a grunt.

It seemed to be annoyed at something, and the fog slowly enveloped it. Michael didn't move, talk and he tried his very best to clear his mind. He stayed as he was, and so did his body. They stayed silent and he watched as the titan was swallowed by the fog.

Seeing the titan was gone he let out a breath he didn't know he was holding, but had to stop since a giant eye, larger than the titan appeared infront if him.

It had thousands of pupils, all different colors and structures. They all looked every way and the pupils were framed by one large pupil. The eye looked at the place he was before he moved for some time and he stayed silent. He was looking at the body that had mutated to become a monster, and underneath the now pale skin was something. Something was moving underneath his body and the eye noticed.

The thousands of pupils merger together into one snake like pupil. It was a dark green eye. Michael held his breath as he saw, from the fog that surrounded him a large snake like tongue shoot towards the body. He made the mistake of looking in the direction it came from and this caused the snake eye to sharply shoot towards where he was. It stopped near his eyes. They were a hair length away from each other and then the single pupil separated into thousands once more. These thousand pupils slowly merged until they were hundreds and then dozens.

Michael was scared out of his wits. The events that he had experienced these past moments were strange and the three beings he had met in the fog, something in him said that they had the ability to kill him. Easily infact.

"What are you Michael?" As he was about to sink deeper into destitution he heard a voice. One that shook his mind and left him in disarray. Fear crept into his heart and as he felt it clench. "Don't be scared, child. You don't belong here, thus we can't do anything to you. We aren't allowed to." Michael looked at the eye and saw that the dozens of pupils had merged into a human like one. It was a radiant blue and had floating pieces of crystals inside it.

"Are you the one speaking?" He asked the giant eye. The voice grew silent for a moment. At that moment, he felt a panic, it was a forewarning of something to come. He was about to ask something else to the voice, when something warned him to stop talking and close his eyes and he did. He closed his eyes shut and for that single second he saw a bright light fill his vision.

Opening them once more, he saw that he was beside his silent and unmoving mutated body, and that there was another man. He stood close to his body, inspecting it. The man was one he knew, the king that would be killed in a few months. The same red firely hair he had in his youth even his body was the same. Fit and burly at the same time but his eyes. They were different. Instead of the calm green eyes that would slowly turn dark when the man was angry was focused, they had adopted the same radiance the floating eye had.

Noticing the way he looked at him, the man stopped inspecting his body and looked at him.

"Hello there, I can finally see you." The man spoke, the voice was different from the king but not too different. Like the king had started speaking using a different accent. "My name is Enaluis and would like to tell me how someone like you found yourself here and also tell me how this happened." He spoke pointing at how he was separated from his body.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

He was about to answer, when Enaluis gasped. He pointed at the body and Michael. Then thrust his arm inside Michael's body. When he pulled it out there was a beating heart in his hand. It was still connected to the body by blood vessels. He inspected it for a few moments before stuffing it back. "Well, that's interesting." He mumbled out before turning back to Michael. "What were you doing before you got separated from your body, and don't lie to me." Enaluis asked. He looked truly interested about it and Michael told him. Partly due to fear of the creature, since he hadn't seen the creature's mouth move and had been hearing it's voice in his mind and he also knew that he couldn't try to negotiate with it.

When he was done telling his story even telling it about the grating sound he had heard the creature let out a great heart laugh. It kept laughing for a few moments before looking upwards. "That's it, you're a really cunning beast." Michael saw the fog churning for a moment and that very act if it moving allowed him to see further that he should. Deep in the fog were tentacles. Uncountable and ever moving. They also seemed to notice his gaze since they were about to shoot towards him when the fog stopped.

"Now for you, what do I do to you?" The creature spoke mostly to itself before looking back at him. "What is your name, child?"

"Michael." He answered in a heart beat. "Then Michael, I Enaluis will guide you to the gate. Oh the gate is the light you saw before you came down here." The creature spoke as it clutched his arm and shot off into the sky. Michael looked back and saw his mutated body blanketed by the fog and being lifted. "Where am I?" Michael asked the creature causing it to stop.

It looked at him for a few moments before clearing it's throat. "You are in the underbelly of the fog." The word fog seemed longer on his lips but short when he heard it. Like it was censored. "Mostly, when people like you come here, pass the manifestation of the gate that appears in where every you come from, they have to go through a trail. So that they can be measured. This allows them to be granted a trait and if they did are favoured a blessing." Again the word fog was stretched out on his lips. The creature let out a dry cough after speaking. "How do you people function with these things in you?"

"What do you mean? Are you asking how we can talk without having a dry throat?" The creature nodded, or at least it tried to. "We have saliva and our bodies are full of water." This only caused the creature to be even more confused. He was about to ask another question before he let out an exaggerated sigh. " Can I scan your mind for the details. I don't want to waste my time asking you about everything that causes your bodies to function as they do." It didn't even wait for Michael to accept, he felt large hands hover above his ethereal head and then a pain assaulted him. His head felt like a spike was being shoved into it but luckly it was brief.

He zoned out after the experience, it felt like he was remembering every thing that he had ever felt, heard or even saw. However, the trip was as if there was always a passenger with him. He looked at the creature to find it switching from body to body and finally it settled back to the body it had. "You are interesting but inefficient and unnecessarily complex beings." His comment caused Michael to snap back from wherever he was.

"I can't do this, there us no way in hell you people can survive in the fog, no wonder your soul left it the second it had a chance. Defective creations." The creature kept talking to itself when it saw that Michael was done with the mild panic attack. "Like it. Sone like to do it, relive their lives in a split second but feel like you have truly been alive. Don't worry it doesn't leave any damage, infact it makes you remember everything even better. Ki d of like kick starting your brain." Michael was still panicking but he gradually calmed down. He looked at the creature and saw that, even though the body was still of the king, it had replaced the less than ideal features of the king with parts of other people. He even saw his nose on the creature.

"As I was saying, the trait you are given is tanked from mortal to the divine ranks. The traits of course grow as you use them and also find innovative ways to use them. They can also grow from the things you use them to do. In your home you had ranks of Martial arts and techniques and here we have those. You will be ranked by how much you are fundamentally different from the base design of a mortal." A floating figure if a human appeared infront of them.

"This is the blueprint. No one knows how it judges from this but that's the way it is. The ranks also start from mortal to Royal to saints to heroes and then the divine. To ascend, you will need to absorb the energy that fills the world you will be deposited to. This can be done in different ways from meditation and absorbing it into your soul to taking pills, but the most efficient is through killing. This allows the energy that the opponent has absorbed to be funneled into your soul raising your state of being."

Michael listened closely and seeing this the creature continued with a smile. "The last thing you will need to know is the existence of chaos. It is what will judge you and what produces the infinite energy we use to ascend through the ranks. When you pass through the gate, you will also be given a new body since your original can't be allowed to go into the actual world, and since I know that you are wondering this is the spirit world -as the beings in the real world call it- but we have our own name that you can't hear unless you are a spirit. The only reason you can even survive here is because you are a soul, the method that most mages use to call on a familiar."

"Did you and that titan come to me because you wanted to become my familiar?" Michael couldn't help but ask. The creature looked at him and smiled. "I came there to eat you." Seeing the look of confusion veiled by horror the creature explained. "We ascend the ranks using the energy that we get from the familiar contracts or from the energy we get when we eat those looking for a contract. we can also get it by killing each other but in this level that is rare. That is why I rushed there when I felt a weak soul in the diaper levels." When it was done speaking Michael saw a bright pulsating light above them. It wasn't very far but the creature knew that it couldn't reach it even if it went towards it forever. So it planted a question on the human.

Michael looked to be in thought before asking the creature. "Why did you take me to the gate and explain all these things to me?" The creature seemed to be debating about whether to answer and Michael waited. "Creatures like us and all our brethren, have a quirk. We repay any deed that has been done to us whether it be good or bad. You did something for me and I have done something for you that scales the same with what you have done." It paused for a few moments before continuing. "I almost forgot, but I would advise you to refuse any blessings that chaos offers you. They will make your fate tied to the deity that it comes from and those that chaos can offer are either those indebted to it or those who are dead. That means that your fate will be to either be trapped in chaos or to die and be consumed by it." Saying this, Michael heard a faint crack. The creature looked at Michael and then at the light before sighing and leaving. It dissapeared into the fog and Michael felt his body being pulled towards the gate.

He looked back and saw his mutated body start to sink into the fog but at the last moment it looked at him, confused and then nodded at him. Before the light l, Michael saw marks that looked like claws and burns. It opened and he was sucked inside before it dissapeared.
