On a Friday evening at 7:45 P.M, John was mowing his lawn. The mailman came and delivered his mail.
"Hello there, John", says the mailman.
"Hello, Frederick! How are you doing today?" says John.
"Ehh, I'm doing fine", the mailman says.
"What's in the mail for me today?" says John.
"Well, you got mail from the IRS", Frederick says. John motions for the mail. The mailman hands over the mail. John looks at the envelope and sees the IRS address in the upper left corner. It reads "576 South Gain Blvd, Missouri City, Texas 77518". He sees his address below it in he center of the envelope. "604 East Riverdale Street, Kansas City, Missouri".
John sighed as he looked at the IRS envelope.
"It figures that the IRS would be sending me something on a Friday morning," he muttered.
"It's not all bad. Maybe they're sending you a refund!" the mailman, Frederick, said cheerfully.
John gave a half-smile. "Let's hope so," he said. He thanked Frederick for the mail and watched him walk back to his truck. John took a deep breath and opened the envelope. He read the letter, and as he did, his expression changed from one of resignation to one of shock. He was being audited. John took a moment to gather his thoughts, then quickly ran back to his house, deciding to mow the lawn later. He had a lot of paperwork to take care of, and he was going to need all the time he could get. John walked into his house, taking a deep breath. He had been expecting this audit for months now, but it still didn't make the news any easier to hear. "I knew I should have paid more attention to my finances," he muttered. He went to gather all of his paperwork for the audit. "I cannot believe that I'm being audited", John said. He carefully placed them in a drawer in the kitchen. He rushes back to the living room and sits on the couch, thinking about the audit and when it will be scheduled. "Man, I hope the audit don't happen on a Wednesday morning. I'm having breakfast with Thomas at that time", he said. All of a sudden, John hears a phone ring. He reaches into his pocket to check his cellular but it wasn't ringing. He glances over to the side and sees the wireless house phone on the table. He picks it up and answers the call. "Hello?" John says. "Hey! What's up man? How ya been?" a male voice says. "Hey, Adam. I've been fine, except for this audit I just received from the IRS", John says. "Oh. You have fun with that, okay", Adam said. "Yeah, whatever", John says. Adam laughs. "Yeah. But anyways, do you want to come out and hang a little?" he says. John pauses for a moment. He doesn't really want to go out with Adam, but he went on and chose to hang with him. "Yeah, I can do that", John says. "Great. Let's meet up at the bar in the next hour", says Adam. "Alright, then. It's set", says John. "I'll see you then, John", Adam says. "See you then", John says back. John hangs up the phone and returns to his sitting to think about the audit. "Ah, it'll be fine John. Just relax, you have all your paperwork to show them. It'll be perfectly fine", he says. He gets up and goes to his bedroom and sits on his bed. "I'm so worked up about this audit, but it's nothing I should be worried about", John said as he lays back on his bed. "Everything will be fine", he says as he began to close his eyes. He falls asleep.
