You know what really kills the writing flow? Forgetting about how the adventurers guild works.
So, here is a short info dump for all and none:
Ranks are from F to A, with F the newbie rank and A being the strongest.Rank S is not the strongest. It just means that the adventurer has special abilities and can be much stronger than an A rank, depending on the situation – or much weaker (a spy is useless in a direct confrontation, but gathering information, he’s much better than the strongest warrior. You get it.)
New adventurers have to fill out a questionnaire (name, age, race, skills), before that is printed onto a magical wooden tag (copied via a magic crystal – who could’ve guessed?) They then bond their magical wooden tag to them by dropping some body fluid on it. Blood works best, saliva or sweat also works.

Adventurers can accept requests that are up to one rank higher than their rank. Being a D rank, they could accept a C ranked request, if they feel confident.
All information is relayed back to the hidden guild headquarters by magical means and can be accessed by the various local guilds.
The crystals simply read the data saved on the tags and adds to it, according to the papers (requests, completion notes, failure notes, etc) that are stacked together with the tag when the crystal comes in contact with the tag.
According to their guild rank, adventurers can ask for information on animals, creatures, monsters, travel routes and people. Of course, an F-rank would never get information about an A-rank beast, while high confidential information will cost extra and require a really good reason and a background check to make sure the adventurer is trustworthy.
They can also transport messages to other guild halls via magical means, if you want to contact an adventurer on the other side of the continent. Though you should know the name of your friend and the city where they frequently visit the guild hall, else there is no chance to get the message to them.
Of course, the merchant guild has their own information network, which is more geared towards trade, people, connections and politics.
