Back in Jackie's apartment, Skyler was sitting upside down on the couch. There was a movie loaded up on the TV, and Skyler absently pat a rhythm against her stomach.
One of the phones on the coffee table buzzed twice, and Skyler stopped. She twisted onto her side, grabbing the phone, and flipping back onto her back. She looked at the message on the phone, and lifted her arms and head up into the air to peer around them and down the hall.
"Hey, Jackie?"
"Yeah?"
"Are you almost done with the snacks?"
"It'll probably be a few more minutes. Did you need something?"
"Uh..." Skyler glanced at the phone, "yeah. Can you get me a soda? And pretzels?"
"Sure!"
"Thank you!" Skyler dropped her head, responding to the message. She held the phone out and held out a peace sign as she snapped a picture. She pulled the phone closer again, grinning.
Jackie walked in with an armful of snacks and two drinks, stopping in the doorway. He tilted his head. "Is that my phone?"
Skyler lowered the phone from her face. "Maybe."
"Who are you texting on my phone?"
"Erin texted you. I was telling her that we're watching a movie."
"Ah." Jackie nodded. "What did she text me for?"
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
"She was telling you that she made it to her hotel safely." Skyler picked up the phone, "Lemme take a picture of you and send it to her."
Jackie shuffled the stuff around in his arms before posing and blowing a kiss to the phone.
Skyler snorted. "Disgusting."
"She'll love it." Jackie walked into the room, dropping the snacks on the counter and plopping down on the couch.
Skyler gagged, tossing his phone back onto the coffee table and twisting around to sit up. She took her drink from Jackie's hand. "Y'all are so in love, it's legitimately disgusting."
Jackie elbowed Skyler. "You're just jealous because you don't have a girlfriend." He pat Skyler's knee. "You'll find your soulmate one day."
Skyler stared at him. "I will kick your ass."
"Eat your pretzels." Jackie leaned forward and threw the bag into her stomach. He picked up the remote and started the movie before grabbing a bowl of popcorn and getting comfy.
Skyler opened her bag of pretzels, grumbling to herself.
About halfway through the movie, Skyler swiveled to face Jackie. "Oh shit! I forgot to tell you that Erin said she was flying in for Valentine's Day."
Jackie stared at Skyler for a moment. "Okay..." He nodded slowly. "That's good. Please don't suddenly start shouting while we're watching a horror movie. I nearly vomited."
Skyler choked back a laugh. "Sorry."
"You're really not." Jackie shook his head, rubbing his face with one hand. "...Did she say whether or not she got the days before and after free, too?"
"She did. She does. She will have to leave really early in the morning on the sixteenth, though, so she can't stay up late on the fifteenth."
Jackie nodded. "I can work with that."
"...Do you have plans? Normally, you just send each other gifts for Valentine's."
"I asked her if she could fly in because I wanted to surprise her."
Skyler sat up, eyeing Jackie. "What's the surprise?"
"I'm not telling. I don't want to jinx it."
"Oh, well." Skyler shrugged, leaning against the arm of the couch again and looking at the TV screen.
