“Oi. Get up.” A burly man kicked the stomach of a young boy lying on a dirty mattress.
The boys hand grabbed the man's legs instinctively.
“Huh?! The fuck do you think you’re doing?” The man stood on the boys head and pressed down.
“Get...off me.” The boy meekly spoke.
“Getting cocky now? Just because the boss favours you, you think you can start acting all tough? Let me teach you a fucking lesson!” The man began to stomp on the youths head. He only stopped when the boys face was beaten black and blue.
“Tsk. Go take a shower and clean yourself up. I’ll tell you todays job when you’re done.”
The boy pushed himself off the mattress and walked across the relatively empty concrete room. He passed the table in the middle where two other men were smoking and made it to the shower. In truth, it was a sorry excuse for a shower. It was just a shower head poking out of the wall and a small drain in the floor.
The boy stripped and turned on the shower, it was ice cold, they didn’t get the luxury of hot water down here. Being naked in front of others was the least of his worries, he just wanted to survive.
“Hey boy, you got quite the nice body there.” One of the men at the table shouted.
“Haha, you’re such a perv Shinji.” The other man laughed.
Although it was true, the boy couldn’t help but feel a little creeped out. The boy looked down and looked at his toned body, the result of years of intense training. Dozens of scars littered his chest and stomach, each one held painful memories. It wasn’t long before he finished his shower, as he stepped out, the man who originally beat the shit out of him shouted for him.
“Hey, you’re clothes are over there. Get them on then come over here.”
He dried his body with a towel and moved over to where the clothes were. Although they were neatly folded, they were dirty. There was black blazer with white accents, a long sleeved, button down white shirt with vertical linings and matching black pants.
He slipped into the uniform and made his way over to the burly man.
“Took you long enough. Anyway, be at the park for 8:30pm, there’s a package you have to pick up. Take this as well,” He placed a brown bag on the table, “If this deal goes wrong, you should just kill yourself.”
“Okay.” The boy took the brown bag, and placed it into a school bag.
“Alright. Get lost, Jack. I don’t want to see your face any longer.”
Jack turned around and slung his bag over his shoulders. He made his way up the concrete stairs and opened a shoddy door. The morning breeze instantly soothed his bruised skin, the sun glazed the streets.
“Fucking pricks…” He seethed with anger.
Nothing particularly noteworthy happened on his walk to Kuoh Academy except for a cat hissing at him and running away. It wasn’t long before he arrived at the gates of the school, yet he could already feel the disgusted glares of the people walking past him. He just shook them off and walked through the gates and into the building.
The grand interior still made him feel awe no matter how many times he had seen it. He himself was surprised that he could go to such a school, this was the only thing that seemed to go right in his life.
He walked through the hallways trying to bide for time, he didn’t want to go to class. He knew the glares that would pierce his soul, he could never escape them. Even though they stared, they never approached him. In all of his life, he only ever attracted the evil. His thoughts ran rampant, his breathing became ragged. Anxiety rose from the deepest parts of his body, trying to push him over the edge. Everyone he walked past glared, there was no escaping it.He was convinced that he was plagued, cursed, he felt he was damned to a life of pain.
Why don’t you just give in? End it. End the pain.
A vile voice spoke in his head. He could never ignore the voice, it was too loud. When it spoke, every part of his body felt repulsed, but it was the only reason he was actually alive. How? He didn’t know, he couldn’t explain it, but it gave him something. He stared at the floor while trying to block out the voice and glares.
*Thud*
Jack collided with someone.
“Shit… sor-” He looked to who he collided with, a crimson haired beauty stood there,”ry…”
“Disgusting, how dare he even look at her!”
“I would’ve thrown up already if he touched me.” The people who witnessed the accident murmured.
“Are you okay?” The woman asked Jack. Stunned by her kindness he stumbled his words.
“Uh yeah, no, I guess.” A tinge of red formed in his cheeks. “I’m sorry, I’ll leave now.” He turned around and sped down the hallways.

‘His aura… I feel so… repulsed.’ The crimson haired woman thought to herself as she watched the boy disappear.
Jack found himself sat on a bench, staring at the sun. He heard the bell ring but he remained unmoving.
“Why does it have to happen now of all times.” He sighed, his anxiety attacks always came at the worst of times.
He sat there for hours, just staring into the sky, imagining a normal life where he had friends, or someone who at least cared for him, but he knew, it wouldn’t come true.

“Akeno, I will be home late tonight.” Rais spoke while deep in thought.
“May I ask why?” Akeno responded curiously.
“I bumped into this boy. I felt so repulsed by him but I feel like I need to know why.” She responded.
“If you feel so repulsed by him, then why do you want to meet him again? Was he ugly, disgusting?”
“No… he wasn’t ugly. It was his aura, it felt like it pushed everything away.”
“Hm. I understand, I’ll tell the others.”
“Thank you Akeno. It means a lot.” She smiled and Akeno left the room. Rias was left to her contemplations.
‘Why did it feel like that. It was so cold. I felt like I could hear the screams of millions, it was deafening.’
A bell interrupted her thoughts, if only she knew there encounter would change the fates of everyone.

Jack sat on a park bench, waiting for his guests. He watched the water flow from the fountain. He felt uncomfortable, not because of what he was about to do, but because he had felt a pair of eyes on him ever since he left the school. He ignored the pair of eyes watching him and checked his phone for the time.
“Where are they… it’s already 8:40.” He sighed and reached into his bag.
‘A gun?’ The woman watching thought to herself.
The boy took out a revolver and began to spin it in his hands. He waited and waited but they didn’t come.
“What if I just,” Jack shoved the barrel of the revolver under his chin, “ended it all.”
“Stop!” A voice from his right made his neck snap.
“So you’re the one who’s been following me?” He stared at the crimson haired woman.
“How- How did you know?”
“I’ve developed a keen sense for this type of stuff.” He responded.
“Come and sit.” He patted the empty space next to him on the bench.
The woman came and sat next to him.
“Why were you following me?” He asked, curiosity burned in his eyes.
“When I bumped into you, I felt something, something I’d never felt before.”
“What? Did you fall in love with me or something?” He laughed, “I’m joking. What’s your name?”
“Rias. Yours?”
“Jack.” Their conversation began to crumble.
“Jack, why do you have a gun?” She reignited it.
“I guess you could say I went to far into the rabbit hole.” A hint of despair was in his voice.
“It’s illegal to own a gun you know? You shouldn’t be involved with something like that.”
“You’re asking a lot of questions. Stop.” He started to get annoyed.
As they sat there awkwardly, his saviour finally came. Two men walked into the park, and looked at him.
“I’m sorry but I’ve got to do something real quick. Just stay here ok? I don’t want anyone else wrapped up in this.” He took out the brown bag and walked over to the two men.
“What took you so long?” He spoke.
“We had a hold up. Have you got the money?” The man on the right responded first, a noticeable scar ran across his cheek.
“Right here.” Jack held up the brown bag, “Have you got the item?’
“Yep.” The man on the left held up a briefcase.
“Open it and show me.” Jack ordered.
As the man put the briefcase the floor and unlocked it, Jack noticed something.
“Hold on. Do I know you?” He raised an eyebrow, “Yeah, I do! You’re one of the pervs.”
“Sorry kid,” Jack pointed his gun to the mans head, “but the boss gave us orders to eliminate you.” The man pulled out a handgun and shot Jack in the wrist before he could even react.
His gun dropped to the ground, he fired two more rounds into his chest.
“Jack!” Rias shouted as she witnessed the horrific turn of events.
The man fired another round in Jacks chest, his body recoiled but he managed to stay on his feet.
“Shit, there’s someone else here!” The man pointed his gun at her and got ready to shoot.
“How fucking DARE YOU!” Jacks voice boomed through the park.
His eyes turned jet-black, looking at him was like staring into an abyss.
“What the fuck. How can he even talk?!” The scarred man shouted.
“I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU!” A dark mist surrounded his body.
In a split second, Jack appeared in front of the scarred man, their faces only centimetres apart.
“HELP… HE-HELP ME!” The man screamed in pain as Jack dug his hand through his chest.
He pulled his arm back, tearing out his heart. The man dropped to the floor, his chest was completely decimated.
“What the fuck… what the FUCK ARE YOU!” The perv unloaded the rest of the clip into the boy, but he just walked forward.
Jack stretched out his hand and grabbed the man's head.
“LET GO YOU BASTARD” He desperately stretched at Jacks arm.
He clenched his hand, his fingers sunk into the pervs head. With more and more pressure, his head exploded like a melon.
Both bodies lay on the floor, utterly destroyed.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry you had to see this.” His eyes returned to their normal color, the black mist dissipated.
Blood poured from his riddled chest. “I don’t… want to… die.” His words were weak.
Rias caught him as he fell, “I won’t let you die.” She spoke softly and gently set him on the floor.
He felt his life slip from his grasp, his mind went blank.
“Jack, you wish to live, I shall grant you this.” A black pair of wings sprouted from her back, “You shall be reborn and live for me.”
“Hah… I must be going… crazy.” He muttered meekly.
A singular chess piece formed in his hand, a pawn. She crouched and met Jacks eyes, but they soon shut.
He felt a burning sensation in his chest, he didn’t know whether it was his wounds or something else. All he wanted was to live.
To live a normal life.
