Prologue

Iris looked out the window, thousands of feet above the ground. The gloomy city streets of Cardiff now replaced by a snowy forest littered with glass lakes. The change of usual scenery marked a fresh start in the young woman's life.

Soon, the tires of the aeroplane started screeching. It wasn't the smoothest of landings, but the passengers were safe. The steward welcomed those on-board to the pristine country of Estonia. A place unfamiliar to Iris, and the locals were just as unfamiliar with her.

The young woman, fresh in her 20s, picked up her luggage and walked out. She was nervous; this was the first time she set foot on a foreign country. Iris never dreamed of leaving the home she was well-acquainted with, but here she is trotting on unknown soil. Her eyes swished left and right, up and then down, guessing which way to go next.

“The exit...,” Iris murmured, “where...?”

The woman searched for anything that resembled a way out. A glass door, markets, a flock of people moving both sides; but the lobby looked similar on all sides. There were glass doors, yes, but every wall pointed outside was made with glass panes. She gripped the scarf around her neck to ease the tension that was building up.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Her curious shuffling turned frantic as the feeling of being lost began to settle within her. Sweat wanted to pour out of her body, but the pores on her skin refuse so.

“You alright there, miss?” A manly yet musical voice called out to her. The man tapped Iris' shoulder, which caused the panic-struck woman to audibly gasp and shiver.

“Whoa! Didn't mean to scare ya... You look lost.”

Iris gradually calmed down, “Yeah, you could say that I am...no, wait, I definitely am.” As she turned around , she was astonished by the size of the man who just called out to her.

The big man simply chuckled from her bewilderment. “I get that a lot. So, lookin' for the exit?”

Iris was weary, but nodded in response.

“It's over there.” The man pointed on a far glass door. “Just, you know, follow the signs and arrows?”

Iris followed the direction of where the big man was pointing. She felt embarrassed by the amount of obvious signage she failed to notice pointing to that direction. She gathered her belongings, thanked the man, and made her way to the exit.

“..This isn't going well at all...” she sighed.
