So with that, I put in a prayer for a peaceful night. I have a lot to do tomorrow with trying to make medicine for Para
Chapter start
I woke up FINALLY getting a decent half nights rest. I swear i got better rest in my prison, why does the world want to just push it all at the same time! Can’t they atleast split it up… thinking about what has happened the last few days of my new and old life makes me want to keep lying down and become a part of the world, it seems pretty insistent on killing me after all. But to be fair with MORTALITY OVERCOME and FEASTING that would probably take a while, and just like swimming in the ocean during spring, it’s better to just jump in than torture yourself by walking out…. Unless that’s what you’re into.
Anyway sad thoughts aside and pushing my mental exhaustion to the side, i suppose I should actually get up, it’s not just my life that will go to waste at this point and I do still need to visit the goblin mage to learn more about magic and my own powers.
I got up and looked to Para, she was currently looking a little more rested after yesterday's escape, she was apparently a restless sleeper and as a few rays of sun slipped in through the cracks in the tent among the receding forest she had turned to her back where I spotted a couple giant red lumps and a big rash on her left hand. I quickly formed a list of symptoms and started thinking about treatments, the easiest would probably be to try to make some sort of antibiotics and hope it works but it could take a lot of time since I don't know any of these plants.
I decided to try to check up a few more things
"Hey Para, wake up! I have a few suspicions about your curse but I need to check a few things"
She made a few groans of tiredness but got up and looked towards me. I immediately noticed her right eye had swelled up and around her lips had started to get a sore similar to her left hand.
"Have you had those bumps on your back for a long time? And have you come into contact with anyone else with similar symptoms?"
She looked like she was barely awake, not currently fainting but if i gave her a small push she might. She managed to respond however
"I'm not entirely sure, I was with my brother when he passed away, he was also sick after a hunt that took went wrong and he ended up with a crushed knee, but didn't want to tell the elders in fear of execution or exile, my illness was discovered and I was exiled"
The painful memories seemed recent and still quite painful. I remember losing my father to cancer. He hadn't done anything like hunting or anything, but he, like millions of others, found out too late and left me behind. So I can sympathize with her pain.
"You can rest up some more, I'll ask Leo if he can carry you the rest of the way to the cave and look for water, I have an idea of how to help you and I got some food out of the challenge so I can focus on finding a cure".
Before she looked like she was about to cry, now she looks like she's found some hope, she looked at me smiling, said a weak "thank you" and went back to sleep.
As I was getting dressed and starting to take down the tent, I was met with Leo having taken down a day bird and trying to dry the skin.
"Gooooooood morning Leo, did you get some sleep?"
He turned to me, clicking his mandibles in what I'm sure is 100% approval of my existence
"I didn't sleep after you went through the challenge, you qualified for the challenge, which is a feat in itself, I spent the time thinking about whether you're truly just a goblin".
I was taken back by his reasoning but I suppose even cavemen could reason that cooked food led to less deaths.
"Ah, right ye, I suppose all my practice has helped! Hehehe"
…Where's that level of deception! I was so convincing, I'm starting to think the programs need you to actually do the task well to gain levels!
Leo looked towards his campfire, there was after all no reason not to make one when the wide plains around us are empty anyways, if something was looking for us, a campfire wouldn't make much difference without the ability to burrow. That's…. actually a good idea. Anyway he threw a piece of cooked meat towards me that I quickly consumed. I hadn't eated anything but berries for a while so meat being back on the menu was a major improvement .
After scarfing it down I decided to talk about the plan for the day

"So bad news Para seems to be out of commission still, I'm thinking of making a borrow for tomorrow to save us tomorrow morning and to hide Para during daylight. Good news. I think I know how to help her. I won a book and some food in the crowning challenge that will help me figure out what I need to help her, and help provide some sustenance for the next couple days.
I'm thinking we can start off by trying a bit longer looking for the cave with Para's help, And don't threaten to snap my neck next time! I found a solution in the end, so give me some credit. Afterwards you can start looking for some water, if that's ok? Meanwhile I can research what I need for a cure"
The spider/lizard amalgamation didn't say anything but nodded.
We started taking down the dirt hut, bringing Para into the sunlight and on Leo's back, it didn't take long after with some direction to find the goblin sized cave.
" I… don't think Leo will fit in there, is it even empty?"
I got to regret my words immediately as a rumble started, Leo immediately threw Para off into some bushes, it didn't sound like a soft landing but I supposed he doesn't have that much concern for her just yet.
Reasoning 4 -> 5
"It's a GroundSnake, an adult, judging by the rumble it's a rather large one. Get into hunting position, this is going to be deadly"
I was slightly panicking, my mind was racing, should I show off my magic?! Should I let Sim take over?! Can I even fight this thing without magic?!
As I was contemplating what to do the rumbles had already come to a crescendo and it burst out of the cave between us, a giant version of what i had seen in the crowning challenge came out
GroundSerpent, LVL 126
HP: 11 567/ 11 567
Armour rating: 23 Natural armour
An evolved version of the ground snake, this serpent can crush boulders between its scaled long body, its immense strength, enormous body and ground sensors make it a difficult fighter as it pops in and out of the ground. It's mouth has evolved to have a jaw capable of rapidly moving back and forth making it like a grinder to dig with and crush up it's food
"HOLY SHIT, IT'S EVOLVED!"
Leo in his cool exterior and immense wisdom in his amazing attempt to calm me said
"Fuck we're dead"
It gave off a few terrifyingly deep hisses and lunged at me trying to catch a quick appetizer.
While I felt paralyzed, Sim decided watching mom cosplay a statue was pretty boring and took control of my body, it felt like my mind was suddenly filled with 2 presences, giving up control willingly turns out to be pretty hard
"Mommy must live, let me take over to evade the serpent, you use your mana bolt to damage it, ask your friend to provide hit and run blows and web to slow it down"
My own son, he makes me so proud, I'd cry for his progress if I wasn't already crying after looking into that thing's mouth! However what he said confirms that he can see what I do and learn quickly.
Reasoning 5 -> 7
Right not the time
"LEO! I NEED YOU TO SLOW IT DOWN, I THINK I CAN DODGE IT FOR A WHILE AND EVENTUALLY TAKE IT DOWN"
I was yelling while my body was running like the wind. Around the hill where the cave was there were no ponds within running distance, no trees to hide behind but there were some rocks to run behind and try to hide.
"Got it!"
The GroundSerpent not only had tremor sense, It seemed like it had tunnel vision for the little one running. After it's initial strike it went into the ground, I ran behind a rock that a few moments later was crushed in the giant serpents' big chomp. It barely did anything to slow it down, but Leo seemed to have gotten one shot in with his webbing from god knows where, it hit it in the side and stuck it to the ground beside it for a few moments, enough to send a mana bolt into its side.
As the glass orb hit it and blew off a few scales in that spot, there was a hiss and it started thrashing around throwing blood around. I hit it with another mana bolt before it got free to go beneath the ground with some chunks of flesh flying off.
There was a small earthquake then which knocked me and Leo off balance but my symbiote managed to save me as the serpent flew up from under me, I threw myself to the side, still getting hit with its giant body, launching me far off into a rock.
Ignore pain 1 -> 7
ABSOLUTE HANDBAG LOOKING FUUUUCK! I felt a few ribs crack. As i was getting up, I saw the serpent once again enter the ground, I spent the time checking my health
HP: 276/622
Stamina: 100/124
Mana: 215/288
Atleast im regenerating, I can feel my ribs placing themselves back together and healing but right now it hurts like a motherfucker.
"No time for pain, going to die"
Against my fucking will i started moving again as another tremble happened beneath me, I got out in time it seemed and on top of another rock ready to dodge.
It ate the rock i was on and got webbed by Leo again, as i readied another mana bolt I checked its health
GroundSerpent, LVL 126
HP: 10 64/ 11 567
Armour rating: 21 Natural armour(damaged)
Seems like firing at it's scales about halves the damage but it lowers its overall armor rating, reducing the amount it shields from each attack.
We managed another 2 mana bolts, one into the old wound and one towards IT'S mouth trying to remove it's digging weapons, there was now a hole where the original bolt struck
I think we pissed it off, it caused another earthquake, but we were ready this time as I quickly got on top of a rock…..it didn't come out, a few seconds went by without any noise before Leo screamed out
"IT'S HERE, IT'S AIMING FOR ME FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK AAAARRRGH!"
I ran back to the cave and saw the giant thing currently constricting Leo, turns out albino lizard men are pretty fucking study as he struggled and was currently at a standstill with the creature. I discovered I could make 2 mana bolts at the same time just then and fired them towards its mouth where I had wounded it before.
Both hit as it was trying to grind Leo down to paste and managed to blow off its tongue and a few of its drill-like teeth. This turned out to be a huge success as it apparently used its tongue to find us, it quickly tried to let go of Leo but he had prepared for this and shot from his hands (like spiderman! Cool!) Making the ground adhesive and slippery, mimicking the situation with the Delvi.
It appeared ready for this, making it clear it also was a part of the raid and its scales started moving and pointed outwards, it then tried wiggling along but unlike the ice the sticky silk stuck to it. With its considerably reduced speed Leo kept piling on more silk and I sent the occasional mana bolt until it was riddled with holes and eventually died.
