Time slowed to a crawl as Daisuke shifted his head a few centimeters to the side, a wooden spear narrowly missing his ear as it passed over his shoulder.
“Pant! Pant! Pant!”
His breaths came in ragged bursts as he sprinted, the ground pounding beneath his feet. Behind him, the snarling horde of crazed monsters gained ground, their eyes burning with relentless fury, clearly intent on settling a score.
“Are you freakin’ kidding me!” Daisuke exclaimed. “So Field Bosses spawn monsters endemic to the area when their HP hits 65%—and they’re all elites? Why wasn’t I aware of this?!”
With a sidelong glance, he absorbed the terrifying sight. Several elite-class monsters were right on his heels—twice their usual size, twice as tough, twice as mean, and twice as relentless. Their roars reverberated through the air, each one more menacing than the last, making his heart pound even faster.
“Gimmie a break already!”
As if his desperate outcry had stirred their commitment even further, the monsters shifted into overdrive. The Rabid Horned Rabbits, frothing at the mouth, their crimson eyes bulging and veiny, charged with terrifying speed. Burly Forest Imps, bipedal and muscular, pounded their chests like gorillas, snapping thick tree branches as if to demonstrate their intentions for his spine.
Goblins hurled spears and launched projectiles from slingshots, their battle cries cutting through the chaos. The Malevocroaks, Kobolds, Bullet Hares, and Lipanthyer were equally menacing. And towering behind the psychotic progression of monsters was the Exiled Hilitroll Chief, wielding a massive club, his presence adding fuel to the frenzied onslaught.
The beast let out a furious grunt as Zephyr fearlessly darted between its legs. The pup growled, flames bursting from his maw and engulfing the unsuspecting monsters ahead. Enraged, the troll swung its massive club down with crushing force, shattering the earth and leaving a deep crater in its wake. But as the dust settled, the troll’s hardened expression twisted in frustration—no blood, no broken bodies. His blow had met nothing but empty ground.
Several Malevocroaks scrambled for cover, diving beneath the nearest bushes. Though singed from the flames, they had escaped the worst of it. The same couldn’t be said for the Horned Rabbits and Forest Imps. Fire, their greatest weakness, consumed them completely, leaving nothing but smoldering ashes in their place.
Suddenly, the unmistakable rattle of chains was heard. Before the Malevocroaks could process the sound with their pea-sized brains, a golden chain snapped around their necks, yanking them upward into the branches overhead.
Then, in the blink of an eye, a shadow streaked past, leaving behind a yellow bead in the palm of one monster. The creatures barely had a moment to glance at it before they were engulfed in a surge of electricity, their bodies convulsing as the lethal shock sealed their fate.
Now the shadow hurtled downward at blinding speed, time dragging to a near halt as Daisuke’s heels slammed into the Lipanthyer’s spine. The massive feline collapsed beneath the force. The earth cracked and splintered, sending dirt and debris floating in slow motion around them. Without missing a beat, Daisuke’s dagger sunk into the creature’s skull with a sickening crunch, the sound echoing through the still air.

Before the beast even slumped to the ground, Daisuke’s head swiveled to the side with a chilling, mechanical focus. Then, in a heartbeat, his figure vanished.
“Kikee!”
“Kakhaaa!”
“Nheeikkkk!”
The Goblins bolted toward their towering leader, desperation fueling their every step. But before they could reach the safety of his shadow, Daisuke blurred past them like a whirlwind. The creatures froze, dumbstruck as arcs of light from his dagger slashed through the air, intersecting their bodies with the precision of laser beams. A heartbeat later, their figures collapsed into a bloody heap on the ground.

Enraged, the troll hoisted its colossal club overhead, intent on bringing down the hammer of vengeance with all its might. The puny human was right in its sights, a fragile target ready to be crushed, but the next thing the fiend knew, its vision was filled with a gleaming projectile.
SWISHH!
The kunai buried itself deep into the troll’s bulbous eye, forcing a deafening roar from the creature’s throat. Blinded and frenzied, it flailed its club recklessly, smashing into the ground and trees with no sense of direction. Meanwhile, Daisuke moved like a shadow, effortlessly joining Zephyr to cut down the remaining monsters.
Unlike their last encounter, the pup shredded through the Kobolds’ thick, armored scales as if they were paper. Just as the canine’s Razor Claw was about to bring down another of the reptilian fiends, a Bullet Hare launched itself from a nearby tree, its bone weapon gleaming with deadly intent, aiming to split the wolf in two mid-attack.
Daisuke appeared in the nick of time, an Impeccable Parry deflecting the weapon in a brilliant flash of light. Without missing a beat, he grabbed the Bullet Hare by the face and drove its head into a nearby tree with such force that its skull shattered on impact. Its body suddenly went limp, utterly collapsing in his grasp.
ROARRRRR!
The ground shook violently as the troll charged, its massive frame tearing through the trees, each swing of its colossal club creating gusts of wind that rattled the branches. Daisuke’s expression darkened, a golden gleam flickering in his eyes.

Its wounds have already healed up, he noted in displeasure. No surprise there, given its ridiculous regeneration ability. But it looks like the damage it took sticks… which is good.
After exchanging a brief glance, Daisuke and Zephyr sprang into action. They moved as one—silent, deadly, and impossibly fast. With a single, fluid motion, the Lipanthyer’s Fang and a mana-forged claw tore through the troll’s tendons like wet paper. The hulking beast let out a pained roar as it collapsed, its massive body crashing to the ground. It propped itself up with its left hand, blue blood staining the earth beneath it.
Undeterred, the troll raised its club high with its other arm, a single eye burning with rage as it prepared to smash the two into oblivion. But before the club could descend, Daisuke darted forward, his dagger flashing like lightning as he severed the beast’s thumb in one clean cut.
The club slipped from the troll’s mangled hand, crashing uselessly to the ground. Then, like bees swarming a honey thief, Daisuke and Zephyr unleashed a relentless onslaught, their blades carving into the giant’s flailing body without an ounce of hesitation.

The creature roared in desperation, its health rapidly draining with every strike. But Daisuke’s keen observation didn’t miss the fact that the fiend’s tendons and thumb had begun regenerating at an alarming rate. Thinking quickly, he darted around the hulking beast, slicing the corners of its mouth so viciously that its jaw hung slack. Then without pause, he hurled a Poison Bomb down its gaping throat before leaping back to safety.
The troll’s eyes bulged in agony as it clutched its thick neck, froth bubbling from its lips while it flailed mindlessly. Without a shred of mercy or remorse, the duo capitalized on the opening, resuming their brutal rampage. They sliced deep into the troll’s flesh, and as blood sprayed from its wounds, they noticed something promising—the fiend’s regeneration had drastically slowed. Its body seemed consumed by the internal damage wrought by the poison, struggling to heal itself from within.
Sensing the end, Daisuke moved in for the killing blow. With a flick of his wrist, he equipped the broken dagger he had received from Rohan and managed to trigger the Lightning Edge skill of his Dual Blader class.
Sparks crackled as the broken weapon hummed with power. With a final, deadly thrust, Daisuke drove the jagged blade between the troll’s eyes. A surge of electricity exploded from it, coursing through the troll’s skull and sending violent spasms through its body.
As the blade shattered and was taken by the wind, a broken gasp escaped the creature’s mouth as its massive form collapsed. Its arms fell lifeless to the ground, and the last vestiges of its health flickered away.
