Chapter 3 - Part III

I had a horrible dream.

A dream of being knocked sky high into the air by a giant falling cube.

I dreamt I sailed through the air and then suddenly fell into a cloud so cold it iced my bones and frosted my bare skin.

Surprisingly, darkness enveloped me…and in the darkness I heard a man’s voice calling out to me as though from a distance.

“…princess….”

Gods, I really hated being called that.

“…Princess….”

Abruptly, my rhythmic heartbeat stumbled a step.

Wait a minute—who was calling me Princess? Though the man’s voice didn’t sound like Jive, I was certain I’d heard it before.

“…Princess…time to wake up….”

The voice was now much closer and quite clear.

“…Princess, don’t you think you’ve slept long enough…?”

It sounded like it was right beside me.

Damn. If only I could remember who owned that voice.

“Very well. You leave me no choice. Time to put the fairy tale to the test.”

Wait—isn’t it easier to just open my eyes.

While my mind was still in the process of booting up, at the very least I had grown conscious of my body and physical orientation.

I was aware that I was lying down on something soft, and I could feel the sensation of smooth fabric over bare skin.

But more importantly, I was drawn to the warm and tender sensation spreading through my lips.

I wouldn’t describe it as unpleasant – quite the opposite – and parts of me trembled and tingled as my emotions fell into a whirlpool of shame and guilt.

Adding to my shame, I felt disappointed when the very, very, obvious kiss came to an end.

With my lips free, my eyelids frantically fluttered open.

I had to blink numerous times before my eyesight cleared.

I quickly focused on the face of the man leaning over me.

He looked down at me, and nodded faintly in satisfaction. “It would appear there is truth to the fairy tale.”

I ran my tongue over my lips. “You….”

Simon nodded again, and smiled at me in relief. “Welcome back, Princess.”

Despite lying on my back, I clenched my right hand into fist, and promptly punched him in the jaw.

It was rather satisfying to see him fly backwards and out of sight, before hearing him land somewhere with a loud thud.

“Don’t call me Princess.”
