Chapter 5

Aiden stood looking up at the hulking mass of eyes and fur looking back at him from 100 feet away and above. He shivered and swallowed nervously. He was currently highly regretting every thinking it was a good idea coming here. 20 feet to his right stood Veronica with a torch planted in front of her holding her bow. Aiden swallowed dryly and once again looked at the stats of the thing in front of him.

Mana 100

Vitality - 70

Endurance - 25

Agility - 22

Intelligence - 7

Wisdom - 10

‘Well... its definitely the boss room then’ He thought sarcastically. One thing that immediately stood out to Aiden was this monster was an (f) rank, and he had yet to face one of those. That meant it was a lot more dangerous then any g rank creatures, even the Elite that was his first fight wasn’t an (f) rank.

The second thing he noticed was that it had Mana. This also being a first as no other creature he had encounter so far had Mana. ‘It can probably use magic’ Then he noticed its Strength stat. ‘I cant let that thing hit me. If I do it just might kill me in one hit... I should have bought a damn shield...' Aiden grumbled internally and looked over to where Veronica was standing. ‘Pull it together man! She’s depending on you! Get a grip!’

Shaking himself a bit he steeled his nerves and unsheathed his new sword from his back slowly and stuck it into the ground as quietly as he could, those freaky eye’s watching him the whole time. He summoned one of his three prepared arrows from his inventory notched one and held the tip towards the torch at his feet, as soon as the tip touched it instantly lit up.

Quickly pulling back the string he aimed at one of Queens eyes, doing his best to keep his hands from shaking. Once the arrow was loose he quickly summoned another one and dipped it into the fire. He heard a loud ear piercing shriek and nearly dropped his arrow. Recovering quickly he checked the damage dealt message and the queens stats again while pulling back on the strings of his bow.

“You deal a Critical hit! to Arachne Queen: Rank (f) / (27+16-25x350%) = 81+10 fire damage”

The queen dropped to the ground And charged him. Aiden let loose his arrow hitting the queen in another eye and quickly pulled out his last prepared arrow letting it loose as soon as he could getting another hit. Before the arrow even hit the queen he dropped his bow grabbed his sword and legged it to the left along the cave wall with the queen hot on his tail. He scanned the queen again while looking around for any other monsters. ‘There! two of them just climbed out of that hole, Good! Victoria Noticed them’

Aiden was able to stay just ahead of the queen while she chased him down, having one point of Agility on her. He kept running until Victoria killed the other two spiders. When she did she let loose a flaming arrow at the queens back, making her shriek again and start to turn. That’s when Aiden used the rings Rush Aura ability and charged towards the queen.

When he got there she had already turned around so he crouched slightly and ran underneath her slicing up her underbelly as he went, getting in 7 hits total. He emerged from underneath her covered in ichor and slashed once more at her neck making her rear back and keeping her focus on him, then kept on running heading left away from Victoria. Two seconds later Rush Aura ran out. He looked back to notice the queen following him again and she didn’t look so great. Another flaming arrow hit the boss as he cast another quick inspect while he ran.

Just as he was staring to celebrate a little about the queen almost being dead the queen spewed a green glob his way Aidens eye’s widened and he instinctively rolled away. He got up and kept running taking a look at where the green blob hit. There was a small hole being eaten out of the ground ‘Acid! Shit! Cant let that hit me’

Aiden noticed another three Arachne warriors had emerged from holes in the wall and Victoria was busy dispatching them. She had abandoned her spot by the fire, stopping only to shoot as she ran trying to keep some distance between the monsters and herself. ‘damn, she’s really doing great in this fight’ Aiden focused back on the queen and rolled away again getting splashed with a few drops of acid on his cheek causing him 15 damage just from that. He quickly wiped away at it with his sleeve and kept running.

He took out his knife and tossed it into the queens head dealing another 13 damage. Then rolled again dodging another shot of acid. The queen was down to 25 Mana which meant she only had one more shot left. Aiden saw that he was coming up on where he tossed his bow. A hundred meters later he rolled picking up his bow and kept running. He took a few shots while he ran and dodged one more Green blob.

The Queen was starting to slow down because of her injuries but so was he. Aiden was down to around 50 stamina and wouldn’t be able to run for much longer. Victoria finally dealt with the three Arachne Warriors and was running back towards her torch shooting at the queen as she went. With one final flaming arrow from Victoria the queen let out her last shriek and slumped to the ground dead. ‘Thank god! its over!’

Aiden let out a breath as he stared at all the messages that came up, then he started laughing, quietly at first but it turned into almost hysterical laughter. Victoria came over to where he was sitting and lay on her back beside him with a tired smile on her face. “Holy Shit! Yes! Take that you ugly bitch! Hah!” Victoria smacked him lightly across the arm, rolling her eyes. Aiden lay down on his back next to her and they just stayed there catching their breath, Aiden still chuckling to himself occasionally.

“We did it... we actually did it! I don’t believe it. We're like some sort of super knight’s now, fighting against evil.” he said chuckling some more. Thinking about that Aiden slowly regained his senses and a somber mood came over him. “We need to go. There was still a passage back there we haven’t explored but we don’t really have the time" ‘plus, I’ve had enough of spiders’

"Tomorrow I want to see if there’s any one left alive in the other two buildings. We are strong enough now that those Beasts and Undead shouldn’t even slow us down. I want to try and save anyone that’s left. I have a feeling that not everyone was as lucky as we were.”

Victoria looked at him with something akin admiration or affection or both and nodded her head, threading her hand into his. The things she’s seen him do were inconceivable. Without him she would probably still be stuck in that room holding tightly to her makeshift spear hiding in a corner. She didn’t know when but he has become her rock. Just being around him had given her strength to keep going. Veronica thought that maybe this new world wasn’t so bad after all, as long as she was with him. She squeezed his hand gently and he squeezed back.

The got to their feet a few minutes later both blushing slightly, and went over to loot the bodies. Aiden headed for the queen while Victoria went after the warriors. They got a total of 750 low grade and 50 medium grade Mana stones from that fight, after splitting it they each had over 1875 low grade and 25 medium grade stones. Since the Dungen has been cleared the system shop unlocked so they both sold all their stones for system credits.

Aiden now had a total of 23,750 and Victoria had 24,560 System credits. To them it was a huge amount, almost 10 times more then they ever had before at one time. It was enough to buy themselves any gear they would need and even those meals weren’t looking as expensive as before. And then finally there were the loot drops from the queen.

Warriors Dark leather Armor - (Uncommon) / Quality (Good) / +10 defense + 5 Vitality

Elven Ring of Healing - (Rare) / Quality (Superior) / +5 Vitality +5 Intelligence +5 Wisdom

Active Skill: Healing touch (Restores 100 Health and cleanses poison and disease upon contact, at the cost of 50 Mana. 25 minute cool down. Channel Mana into the ring to activate effect)

Uses: (5 per day) 5/5

Low Grade Health Potion: Effect - restores 50 hp in 10 seconds. x5

Aiden immediately handed the ring over to Victoria making her smile brightly at the description. And asked her for help fastening his new armor. It was another piece of equipment with runes on it, he noticed. It seemed to resize itself to fit him once he put it on.

It was dark brown almost black in color, was studded and protected his chest shoulders and upper arms rather well. It even had a studded skirt attached that was split into eight section covering his behind and legs. Aiden though it looked cool! The vitality bonus also increased his health by 50 just like the new ring did for Victoria.

Aiden chose to wait till they were back in their room to chose a class so they headed towards what they assumed was the lightly illuminated exit portal that appeared in the center of the large cavern. Once they were through they were back inside the bathroom, but when they turned around the hole in the wall was gone, leaving just the regular wall of the bathroom behind.

Shrugging to each other they made their way back towards the teachers lounge where they each bought themselves a meal from the shop for 400 credits as a reward to themselves for getting out of that Dungeon Alive.

After they both ate a hardy meal (Steak and fries for Aiden and Onion soup for Victoria) Aiden sat down and opened his status.

Status:

He noticed the question marks next to his level and essence and wondered what that was about, but focusing on it didn’t give him any answers so he focused on the plus next to Class Selection, when he did a prompt came up asking if he wanted to choose a class, he said yes and a list of all of his possible choices appeared for him.

Fighter - (Common)

Soldier - (Common)

Warrior - (Common)

Rogue - (Common)

Archer - (Common)

Hunter - (Common)

Scout - (Common)

Ranger - (Uncommon)

Swordsman - (Uncommon)

Striker - (Uncommon)

Woodsman - (Uncommon)

War Ranger - (Rare)

Aiden went through all of the classes one by one checking out what they offered. He liked Swordsman and woodsman since they both were geared towards how he fought, but once he read the description for War Ranger he knew he would be picking this one.

War Ranger:

Description: The war ranger can fill almost any combat role out there. With a focus primarily on Swordsmanship and a secondly on Archery they can fight up close or from afar. They can use Aura’s to enhance their body and they are tough enough to survive where most others can't. War rangers are know as survivors and are often the only ones to crawl out of the abyss of battle alive. (+2 Vitality +1 Endurance +1 Strength +1 Agility per lvl)

Class Selection permanent Bonus: +2 Vitality +2 Endurance +2 Strength +2 Agility +1 Dexterity +1 Skill +1 Intelligence +1 Wisdom

Skill gained at first level: Battle Aura Lvl 1 - Boosts all stats by 1 for 1 minute (Cost 35 Mana)

‘This is it. I will be a War ranger. The description sounds the best out of all the ones I’ve read so far and I get one extra stat point per level then with Swordsman or Woodsman, I’m guessing that’s probably because this is a Rare Class. Either way this one seems perfect for me’ Aiden made his selection and clicked accept.

He was enveloped in a purple light and and felt that euphoric feeling again and with it came new information that flowed into his mind. It was basic knowledge on acrobatics, stances, and fighting techniques for the sword and bow, as well as information on how to use Aura’s. When the light subsided Aiden felt light headed and had to sit down. He gave himself a minute to regain his head and focus. He marveled a little at the new knowledge. Then he read the new message and checked his status again.

“Congratulations! Your Class is now War Ranger / +2 Vitality +2 endurance +2 Strength +2 Agility +1 Dexterity +1 Skill +1 Intelligence +1 Wisdom added”

The first thing Aiden noticed was that his original level of 10 was now replaced by his class lvl and he was back down to level 1, however he still had his previous stats plus the ones he earned by changing his class. ‘So the first 10 levels were like a tutorial then?’ He also noticed the percentage next to his Battle Aura skill. Tapping into his newly ‘downloaded’ knowledge he knew that the more he used a skill the quicker it would level up, but skill’s still took a long time to level. The effort was worth it however because with each level skills got progressively better.

Aiden explained everything that happened so far to Victoria. After that Aiden asked Victoria to start teaching him sign language so they could communicate better, which she readily agreed to do. Two hours later they were both laying on the couch together under a quilt Victoria purchased from the shop. Aiden occasionally mumbling something about creepy spiders as he slept making Victoria smile slightly as she lay awake enjoying the comfort of his body heat.
