So, if you've read this far, you can see that this first "book" is finished, but the story is barely starting. I have frequently alluded to the idea that I want real-world NFL events to impact story events. I think this will add elements to the story and storytelling that are almost impossible to achieve without this element. Having to respond to real-world events will add a massive challenge to keeping the story going in the direction I want it to, but it will also add an element of unpredictability that means nobody, neither me nor the reader, can determine in advance exactly what's going to happen. It's a way of ensuring those "shock twists" without having to break the back of the story to engineer them inorganically.

You might also be aware, if you are a sports fan, that the NFL season doesn't start until September (or August, if you count preseason, but who does?). So, I want to write another installment, "book 2," entitled A Month for Hunting before September. I want a chance to lay the scene out before the games start, to flesh out the world and get events in motion. I need to advance Cordelia and Pyre's plans, move Dania's scheming forward, and bring the war between Cincinnati and the Empire to a place where it's ready for random events to start impacting it.

Most of all, I'm excited to progress the smaller story of Brightforge's chosen heroes as they embark on their quest to find the assassin. It will be a chance to see the world of The Grid up close as they travel.
