Wren's POV
I didn't know what to do with the cobra so I threw it into a bush. I'm very eco-friendly. Time to get some real food. I went to a different location and climbed up a tree. Maybe if I'm lucky I can find a badger or deer, even though I'm already fortunate enough to have "found" all of these gold coins. Heh...
I spotted a well concealed rabbit hole, burrow if you will. I got my bow out again and pulled back another arrow. Now I just wait in this position for a while. Usually ranging from thirty minutes to two hours. Well would you look at that. There's a a pair of fuzzy brown ears sticking out of the hole. I'm more lucky than usual. I let loose the arrow.
To survive is to eat. To eat is to kill. To kill is to fight. I may not kill humans, but I will kill any other animals as a means of survival. I once thought it was the survival of the fittest, but now I know it's survival of those quick to adapt. By afternoon I had 2 more rabbits. I started skinning them and gutting them. I had a bag for the rabbit meat and put them in. Don't ask what I did with the leftover intestines and parts. Although I do keep the rabbit hide to sell later on.
The sun was starting to set. I was at the stream getting water for my canteen. I took a few gulps and refilled it. I looked up at the sky. The clouds were growing bigger, and getting more grey. It was I better hurry. I rushed to my special home in the forest with larger trees. It was getting dark and I couldn't climb these trees as their branches were a lot higher up. The foliage in this part of the forest was a lot denser, but that didn't stop me from becoming dripping wet. I pulled my hood on.
My tree home wasn't on top of the branches, but rather in a hollowed out tree. There was a small hole that I could fit in on the outer part of the tree. The inside part of the tree had a large naturally formed cavity and was perfect for a home. I discovered it when I was chasing a rare bird. I never got to find the bird, but I did find the tree hollow.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
I finally reached sight of the right tree, but there was a light coming from it. Damn it. Did someone else find it? Let's give them a little surprise. After all, they took my perfect tree house and make me wait in the rain. I was as quiet as I could be for someone sloshing through mud puddles. The pouring rain would cover any sound I made anyways.
I leaned against the wet bark and peered inside the hole. The person was shirtless and laying down. He was asleep from what I could tell. He had a fire going in the tree with my special rock. Wait a minute, he's wearing black pants... And he has A WHITE SHIRT WITH A BLUE TUXEDO. It's the guy I robbed before. He's still in this neck of the woods?
"Crap." I whispered out loud.
Something beside him stirred. It was a reddish brown fox with black paws and black tipped ears with a white belly. It got up and stretched. I forced myself to move out of the way of the hole. I heard something make a few steps and then it was silent, apart from the rain. Suddenly, a head poked out and looked straight at me. It was the fox.
I was never sure what sound foxes made, but this one barked exactly like a little puppy. It pawed right at my face and it poked my eye.
"Ow. Damn fox!" I said aloud.
Shoot. I think the guy is waking up.
"What is it Max?" the guy said groggily.
He got up and dragged his feet to where the fox was. The stupid fox looked from him to me.
"Is there something out there?" the guy said while putting his head out the hole.
Welp, I've been found out. We made eye contact. I wasn't very sure what to do, but he said some words that I wasn't sure I heard right.
"Can I help you, m'am?"
